Thank you, Jim! You are just amazing! I used this method over 40 years ago when I was in college. In the meantime, I have neglected, almost forgotten this technique. Thanks for reminding me. It is good to know that at the age of 64 you can still "re"-learn old/new things.

Jim, I found you accidentally on You Tube but often do and actually love to take notes, so I really liked this tip! As an engineer, learner of languages, and retired bodyworker, the relatively new understanding of neural plasticity seems to me a veritable fountain of youth! Add to that the awareness that movement, new information and emotion are the very keys that lock knowledge in, and everything becomes, well, as your book pronounces, Limitless! Thank you so much for your work, and I am in awe of the many, MANY difficult years you fought learning difficulties and stimga to grow stronger and learn your own brain and body, and the sharing you have done to date that you had no way of knowing you would ever be able to do... podcasts in the 1970s? Ha! I appreciate and applaud you, Mr. Kwik- you ARE a superhero!

I was using a different method in the previous year, and it worked for me which is ( before I went for my lecture I was preparing and nearly knew everything, and even though I did not understand everything and what happened on the next day, my focus will increase, and the note which I will take it will be so clear because I knew how to correct myself and if I did not understand something I will ask) by the way I was asking my self that why I need this and when I will use it. Thank you for your video, which is helpful and appreciate your kind effort to help us in our brain issues

WOW... Listen to your broadcast has enlightened me because I just started back to school in my master's program and it's a bit challenging since I have been out of school for several years and having issues in my personal life at the same time I started back to school. Now I found myself struggling with note taking, reading so I started to pray for way I can learn quicker and retrieve my information more effectively and your broadcast popped out of nowhere on my FB reels that I literally stopped what I was doing just to follow you... I'm amazed by your story and wanted to purchase your book but unfortunately I can't at the moment but I wanted to say thank you for the nuggets I can get, too get me started it's been a blessing to me that God allowed me to watch this video so I can stay focus on achieving my goals in learning and overcoming my fears in learning. Your speak gave me motivation to try something new with they way I'm learning, that I'm so excited to go to the library this summer and read more about my area of studying in school so I can be more ready for the fall...Thanks again from a happier student...

I like this video. I'm on the journey to get my brain in good shape and I already experience more focus on what I'm learning when taking notes. It's sometimes difficult to have fun with it, but I'm pushing myself always a little bit forward with the words "I'm continuously getting better and I'm continuous learning faster", so I enjoy learning and creating and being active and remember myself that I can decide to have fun with learning and taking notes

Thank you so much for sharing the invaluable information Jim. Last year I listened to one of your podcasts on how to remember items/things using corresponding body parts and imagination (ie. starting from the head, the ears, the nose, ... etc). Pair an item with a body part for memory retrieval. I taught my young niece and nephew this trick and they totally got it. What was shocking is 6 months later my nephew still remembers most of the pairings. I wish your methods are implemented in today's school programs. Your teaching is truly transformational on how we can improve and maximize learning.

Thank you Jim! I have been doing a lot of research on note taking (obsidian, zettelkasten, etc..) and I am every so grateful that I watched this video. As a mature student going back to school to obtain my masters - this method is light in the abyss. Happy sigh... and I am going to go that one simple step further and share your technique with my daughter who is in the 11th grade. True game changer.

@Jim I bought your book while attending the “I CAN DO IT” conference in Tampa. Since your keynote there, I’ve been soaking in everything I can, and this note taking tip is one I intend to use in my work. I attend lots of meetings and often just don’t take notes, mostly because I feel I’ll just recall it, but I don’t. I have a small moleskin note book that fits in my pocket and I’ll start using the fold in that note book as the centreline, always using the left page for taking notes, and the right page for making notes. I’ll do it for the next few weeks, then at our next team peer learning exercise (something I started with my team) I will teach your method to my team. I’m actually looking forward to use it day to day. Thanks for this.

Would be interested to hear how this works out for you, Alain. And your left hand page/right hand page division seems like a good and practical idea - making a double spread, whatever size, where everything relates across the aisle.

This is an adapted version of Cornell note taking, with a couple of important improvements. Another important aspect is spaced repetition, to avoid forgetting, repeat within 20mins, 8 hours, 1 week, 1 month. If you take notes at the time, ‘make notes’ shortly after, make summary, that evening, just before sleep, you are combining several effective techniques. Also use ‘recall’: test yourself first rather than just rereading your notes at each stage, to ‘write’ your recall as well as your writing circuit. And retest at 1 week and 1 month.

I think,I do not have enough time to ask:When how,why I can use this because the flow of taking notes will be disconnected and while I am trying to make notes,I will miss taking notes and lose the information, because I cannot hear, take notes and make notes in the same time.Hope you understand, what I mean.I will appreciate your advice very much.Thank you.

Everything is information, your mind is a receiver of information, in order for you to learn something, you have to do it, (like when a baby wants to walk), in order to do it consistently, you have to understand why you must do it, in order to improve what you're doing, you have to learn.

I use almost the same technique. However, I do not write "capture" or "create." Of course, I would write what is written on the board or dictated by the teacher. But when I write a term definition, I would simplify it by choosing the important keywords. I'm not too fond of lengthy sentences. And besides it, sometimes I draw or sketch or make a visual representation of the definition to make it easier to remember.
