Funny how small point 'n' shoots have flashes that make you look like you're witnessing a nuclear blast, but for subtle lighting you need a giant light and a gigantic softbox.

how does changing the shutter only affects the background and not the whole image? that got me really confused..
@NegativeFeedback
@NegativeFeedback 4 жыл бұрын
The duration of the flash is very short but bright. So even at the fastest shutter speed your subject will be the same brightness. Since the background is normally a bit further away than the subject, it's less illuminated by the flash. Therefore at a lower shutter speed, there's more time for the background to be exposed with natural light. Hope that helped

But you only have a 1/400th of a sec of fastest shutter speed on your camera - isn't that right? Can you still manage to "turn out" the incident light outdoors? You can't do those pictures in bright sunlight, can you? If you can answer to this it would help me so much in understanding photography in general. Thank you. Love you so far from what I've seen - style, asthetics, authenticity, knowledge - subscribed :)

@@takoboi Yes that's a great way to jumpstart the process. I learned how to do this with a cheap P&S that had full manual control. And then just transfer the settings to the film camera and maybe bracket your shots as you normally would. The flash or strobe is fully compatible since everything on both camera + strobe is done manually.
