Thank you for the great video! I have one question, many people recommend using AFC for moving objects, did you find AFS better in this case because whales don't move too fast?

Breaching whales pretty much come up and splash down all in the one spot. So AFS works fine. However this video was made before I bought my G9, the photos were on my old Pentax DSLR. Now I would most likely use animal detection AF. If you focus using the front button I would probably still us AFS. I now use back-button focus and probably would use AFC for myself.

For whale watching trips I always use two bodies; one with wide to short telephoto zoom, other with medium to long telephoto zoom. Many trips the whales stayed close in and I never had to use the long zoom, other times the exact opposite. Can never predict what they will do, and we are not allowed to approach, they have to come to us.

Agreed. This is one of my earliest videos on KZbin and I was still learning. Something I have improved on in later vids.
