Hi Andrew, A great tutorial - thank you. However, could you tell me - is the time between exposures determined by the shutter speed set? Or is this something set prior to starting the composite.. Thank you.

Unlike time lapse video, with this function there is no interval between shots. You set your shutter speed and it simply keeps shooting at that speed with no lag in between.

Hello I'm interested in the High resolution mode (MODE 2) of panasonic systems. Can this high resolution mode be applied to photos taken at night? If so, is there a limit to the shutter speed?

I was a late convert to BBF, until I found that BBF works when camera body is in manual focus mode. This is helpful when your budget AF lens that does not work in AF + MF mode.

Having watched this episode now, a few remarks as you asked for them Andrew. It was a pleasure, except for the distracting ads. But OK, that generates income for you. Very instructive video as always. Your portraits are great, also the sense of humor. I admire you achieving a nice skin color I always struggle with using my G9. The magenta shift is awful. Difficult to compensate with green and blue. But, then again I'm shooting mostly inside, with difficult, combined lighting. A lost cause. My greatest problem in my workflow is choosing between the images in bursts. A real drag. Also losing myself in details and perfectionism when editing. Honestly, when I saw your "feature" image (Kelarney on the stool) I thought you chose it to give an example of a reject in the burst. But never mind! Was nice to follow the raw development because I use Affinity. Not much different from Adobe. I prefer your second edit, the more vibrant version. Greetings from Europe!

I think you deserve many more subscribers, so watching this at the end of 2024 and seeing they still haven't doubled, though overdue, I still do - subscribe I do! You combine methodical structuring and teaching quality with a narrator's voice that's hard to resist. Add to it that I use G9 and struggle with it in some arias, and I definitely have to be around with your new uploads!

Damn, I'm really hesitating on buying one while it's available at 2000€ which is 200 or 300€ less expensive than usual. I was concerned about its landscape photo quality and thé fact that Lumix might launch an S1 II version in the coming year. I have a Sony (A6300) and was disappointed about its colors then I learned about the A7R3 being really good for landscape with its sensor And I can buy one used for 800€ but it is limited on what It is good on, have a so-so tropicalisation, its screen is not on 8 axe and I Wars wondering about its colors. I wanted to learn video and was considering working on photo/vidéo for a living and I'm fond of hiking. I must consider on what I put my money on at the moment so I'm note seeing myself buying 2 différent caméras. Could you or someone give me advices ? And is the Lumix S5IIX good enough to sell large prints of landscape ? Have a good day !

Great Tutorial........but...........haha.... - Photo Style Standard ( No settings inside?) - I don't have the G9 I have the FZ1000ii and those settings apply very well minus the back button focus. - No Histogram? No worriies. - EVF? Fully bright or brighter? I know, more bloody questions😂 - I am looking into the latest G9ii in the near future once I land a job😂😂

I didn't say it was every setting on the camera, it was every setting I use. I shoot RAW so I don't worry about photo style. I have never bothered with histograms. And I have never adjusted EVF brightness. Also this video is several years old.

Thanks for the overview. I'm probably never going to use a phone app on a device without color management to build a LUT. At best, I might use it to edit an image for a quick social post. The glacial WiFi connection time is quite a barrier to use. And it's disappointing that Panasonic didn't just expand the feature set of the Lumix Sync app to include these editing/LUT features.

A little perhaps, but not as much as what you might have (very observantly) noticed in my video. I made quite a lot of mistakes on the day I shot the first part of the video, because I was still learning how to get things right myself. For example I took my first set of flower photos in RAW when I should have been using JPEG. So what you saw was selected clips from a number of takes I shot along the way.

I don't see nearly any noise in a couple people's videos, then too much in others regarding the g9

Thank you so much for your set up video and the downloads of your Custom Mode settings. I have uploaded your Camera settings and Custom settings. Then edited them for my own use e.g. I've added JPEG. I've kept a few of your video settings but moved them to C3-9 and C3-10. Looking at the control dials and buttons I've changed some of these e.g. Near and Far Shift on the F2 and F3 buttons . Rotating dial on the back of the camera is now set for changing the ISO - same as my Canon R6 😊. These function buttons and dial are also on my Panasonic S1 camera. So I tried this and have got them set up that way on it too! Not bad after having the S1 for 5 years 😮

Hi Andrew - how are you finding the quality difference between the G9II and S5II? I have a G9 with 10 lenses and canon 5DIII with 5. I love the size of the G9 but in contemplating the upgrade path the S5II is tempting noting the EF lenses can be adapted. I find I do get annoyed with the noise in the G9 files and use the denoising tool in Lightroom. It is effective but seems to add a touch of the digital look less natural. Welcome your thoughts! PS - I find there has been a noticeable bump up in the quality of your photos (colour, DR, exposure etc) since you have been using both the G9II and S5II. Do you think so too?
@naturesimagephotography
@naturesimagephotography Ай бұрын
No question the new cameras have helped with my quality. The full-frame of the S5ii has its obvious advantages, and the G9ii is both higher in resolution and lower in noise - I reckon about two stops better than the G9 original. I feel that both cameras give me better colour in AWB and straight out of camera...earlier models skewed a little towards magenta and always needed some colour correction. Whether you step up to the G9ii (with your 10 lenses) or the S5ii, you would be happy with the choice. Personally I rely on the 2x crop factor of the G9ii for the majority of my wildlife...also helped by huge improvements in the AF detection settings. I also use it for macro. But the S5ii is my go-to for landscapes, night photography etc. Because I do so much wildlife, if I had to pick just one it would still be the G9ii. Happily I have the luxury of being able to run both.
@Democratiser
@Democratiser Ай бұрын
@ Hi Andrew - thanks for your thorough and prompt reply. It is interesting you confirm have seen the image quality jump. 2 stops improvement in noise over the G9 is significant! I think ideal scenario however is, as you say, to have both! If I were to do that I think I would want to have one smaller form camera (eg GX9II… which doesn’t exist but hopefully will one day). The S9 doesn’t quite hit the mark for me (no EVF and no weather sealing). This is the dilemma which keeps me sitting on the fence! I’m not a wildlife photographer but have a 75-300mm Olympus. A slow but amazing value lens. Interestingly I find the photos taken by that lens are often the most unique simply because an iPhone and normal camera just can’t deliver anywhere near that focal length. So I find myself typically carrying the G9 with an Oly 12-40mm pro, the Oly 75-300mm, the PL25mm f1.4 and, if needed, the Oly 75mm f1.8. A GX9II would complement that kit well. I might just have to wait some more and see if they ever release a GX9II! Alternatively, as the pricing in AUD sees the G9II slightly more expensive than the S5II, the latter is currently more appealing so the Black Friday sales might be an opportunity to splurge. All the best.

I shoot all my photos in raw, so almost by definition there is a level of post processing required. I do try to create a finished image that looks as natural as possible so I keep editing subtle and to a minimum.

I just got a used G9. I'm replacing my canon 80Ds for travel and documentary work because of the weight difference. I get to spend a month, sometimes two in Europe every y ear. It's tough, at age 76 , to walk around with an extra 8 to 10 lbs of equipment for a 5k walking tour. It's a pretty steep learning curve. This camera's automation is great if you know how to make it work. 2 months ad I' still struggling. Your vid was very helpful. Thanks. Is there anything I can do to make the video viewfinder look more like an old viewfinder and less like a 1960.s BW tv?

Perhaps worth mentioning, the file will be created and play back automatically at 30 FPS. This gives you the option of slowing down again when editing and exporting at 24 FPS. (20% slower) Also, a work-a-round concerning the auto focus issue. Switch the camera to "M" (or ther mode) before shooting to engage and capture auto focus. Switch back to movie mode and the focus will hold at that single point. Obviously does not help in fast evolving situations, but focus peaking will still work in Movie Mode.

I'm really lucky to have both. If I had to choose just one I would have the G9ii simply because of the massive reach of the 2x crop factor and I do a lot of wildlife. But if all I did was portraits and landscape, I would probably go for the S5ii. Unfortunately I will never be able to afford the sort of lens for full-frame that could compete with the 800mm equivalent of the 100-400 on the G9ii,

I haven't used the Olympus camera myself, although I have taught people who use that camera so I have some experience with it. Also I was faced with a similar choice when I got my first G9 back in 2019. I prefer Lumix because it has a much better menu system and better arrangement of buttons and dials (in my opinion). Also the G9 has really good human and animal subject detection in the autofocus. Best idea is to hold both cameras in your hand and get a feel for them, there is only so much you can learn from online research.
