Thank you so much for doing a detailed review of the whole process! I am planning on transferring from ucsc to other UCs but have been hesitant since everyone is saying how uc to uc transfers are difficult. You definitely made this process less intimidating!!

I’m thinking of transferring from ucr to csuf due to not being able to cover the rest of my housing and dinning plan bc I dorm. Also I don’t feel to comfortable there though I have nothing against it but just feel like it’s not for me. I’m trying to transfer to CSUF bc it’s closer to home and I don’t have to pay dorming but don’t know how to do that.

Google "CSUF Transfer" and find the university website with instructions on how to transfer! I'm glad you were able to recognize that something wasn't a right fit for you. Best of luck!

Hii, could you talk about how you made friends? I’m transferring to ucsd and I’m nervous about making friends
@JoannaL Жыл бұрын
Congrats!!! If you opted to live in transfer housing, you'll live with and meet lots of fellow transfer students! Also, there are TONS of campus clubs/organizations that flyer around campus - so you can join whatever interests you and make friends from there! Class sizes, depending on your major, can be pretty big - so you'll have to be proactive in introducing yourself to make friends. It's definitely a bit of a challenge at first, but there will be lots of transfer students in the same boat as you - so you won't be alone. Hope this helps!!

Thank you for sharing your adventures. From reading your replies, you have finished all GE and transfer requirement in Fall Sophomore year. So, the class you studied during Spring and Winter probably need to retake at UCSD? Did you think of transferring after the first year as you may already fulfill the minimum transfer requirement? Thanks
@JoannaL Жыл бұрын
all the classes I took Spring and Winter transferred as credits or were accepted as UCSD to replace upper division required classes 😊 Transferring after the first year wouldn’t have been possible for me because I still had GE requirements to complete and a bulk of my extracurricular activity came in my second year - hope this helps!

Hi, Im planning on transferring to UCD and could you tell me if you were able to get any courses transferred over? I heard that UCs dont have agreements with each other unlike community colleges so I know some courses may not transfer, if they dont are you able to test out of it? Thanks
@JoannaL Жыл бұрын
Hi there! If you complete ALL your lower div courses, you're able to transfer in with only upper div requirements left. If not, UC to UC has a lot of courses that are transferrable (ask your academic advisor for a list) and any course that is not on that list, you can petition for it to replace a requirement once you are accepted. Hope this helps!

did you keep it a secret so no one gets passive aggressive towards you especially the staff?

I was definitely very intentional with who I shared it with (for several reasons) just make sure whoever you do share with is supportive 😊

Hi, I try to transfer from UCR to some other upper UC as well. I am currently a freshman and pre business major student. I am on the three-year graduation track as well. Knowing the transfer units are 90 at most (better not exceed or below), I have around 67 units including AP completed after the winter quarter, which for sure going to exceed 90 units by the time I apply for other UC and I am wondering what was your units by the time you apply or the first-year units? May I know what classes you taken during first year and what are some APs you got credit? Than you very much!!!!!!
@JoannaL2 жыл бұрын
hey there! I think I came into UCR with about 40-50 AP units (I took 8 APs in HS) and I finished all the lower div classes by fall quarter of soph year - these were math, eng, natural sciences, lower div business and econ classes, etc. My only tip would be to make sure you finish Eng1A-C if you are guaranteed to transfer (it's seen as a lower div by other UCs but you can take it your jr/sr year at UCR). Hope this helps. If you have any other questions, feel free to dm me on ig :)

Hi! I want to try to transfer to UCSD from UCR after my first year. I am currently a first year student and a bio student. I wanted to know what could be some reasons that would make them think that I want to tranfer. For me personally I am from San Diego and would like to be closer to home, could that serve as a good reason? And does that essay have to be like a story type of essay or just a reasoning type.
@JoannaL3 жыл бұрын
that essay would just be reasoning instead of story. I think wanting to be closer to home might not be strong enough of a reason unless you had to be a caregiver to a family member or something along those lines. I definitely wouldn’t lie though, but just know that wanting to be closer to home might not be compelling enough If you don’t have a good reason, just let your grades and hard work be the reason to choose you as a transfer student :)

Hi! I’m currently a freshman(bio major) at UCR and also want to transfer to UCSD. How can I make sure that all my credits and the classes I take will be transferable to UCSD? I really want to go to UCSD I know it’s the right fit for me as a pre-med. What do you think are things I can do to impress admissions and be accepted?
@JoannaL2 жыл бұрын
Meet with your advisor - they should be able to direct you to a list of transferrable classes! If a course you already took isn't on that list, you can also petition for it to transfer after you're admitted (although it's a bit of work and you have to make sure it qualifies as an equivalent to an existing class at UCSD)! In terms of how to get accepted, I would definitely focus the most on grades, making sure you have a high gpa. To stand out further, try to be as active as possible on campus to show how passionate you are about premed or show how you can be a leader. Hope this helps, good luck!

What’s UCR like? I’m going there but I don’t think I want to leave it tbh. I’m hoping I end up loving it but I might leave for my masters or PhD somewhere else. Just depends if other ucs or universities offer better for genetics etc

There's a lot of school spirit and plenty of campus activities! The campus is still quite new and there are a lot of good resources, but less fun things off-campus compared to other UCs!
