I wasn't expecting this video to make me emotional 🥺 I guess it's because having a nice home has always been my dream since I was a little girl. I grew up in public housing apartments with 9 siblings, and I used to imagine what it would be like to have my own room to decorate any way I wanted. Having a safe and loving space to call your own is a true gift. Thank you for sharing this with us, Rajiv

Crystal, you can begin anywhere you are. I know exactly how you feel, I was in the same situation almost, we had a house, but we had poverty, spiritual poverty and emotional and financial poverty; bare walls and rooms and no one shared my desire. But I wanted a beautiful place even then and I have made it happen everywhere I've moved, even to N. Africa, and now I am retired and I still work to have a little home that surrounds me with beauty and makes me feel beloved. You will, too! And like Rajiv, you will hate to leave! You can, too!

I’m rooting for you, Crystal. I’m sure you’ll create it as it is such a heartfelt wish. And Rochelle above here is right, you can start now and just style one little piece of a windowsill or a small bedside table or something, with stuff you found that you like. Or one little box with loved things.

I look forward to a time when god will get rid of all the wicked and bring peace to this earth, and he promises that we will live in a paradise where nobody will harm us and only righteousness We'll be there. I would like to share a scripture with you Psalms 37: 9, 10, 11, 29 Revelation 21: 3, 4 God is my hope and many other scriptures. Tell us that God is loving and he will give us our home that we have always desired. He said that he will Satisfied the needs of everyone. I lost my home after my mother died and my father died by the time I was nineteen because a crooked lawyer took two acres of my land that was will to me and my house and I lost everything to his dishonesty and I became a homeless. Two acres apple trees cherry trees overlooking a lake. A garden a beautiful piece of land. You can have everything growing up. And then you can have a disaster happen to you and you become homeless. So I know what you're talking about. Better things are to come.

As a real true fan of RS website I'm also a interior designer and decorator and that's 2 different types of elements of interior design.... If you recommend a wall color to a single person please let them know that if they decide to choose flat paint they should consider their lifestyle because it's a very picky texture for walls and I ( used to prescreen my ( PCD ) my previous company ) they should consider if they have an active lifestyle and when you customize their lifestyle inside of the home 🏠 it should reflect how many people and what they're going to do inside their home daily

The way a lace curtain moves in the breeze and the way our food looks in sparkling glass canisters can overwhelm us with gratitude that we can see the sky and that we have food to eat. Absolutely. Also love the fact that this has been ten years in the making... there is no rush or timeline in this mindset. I sometimes feel frustrated that I have lived in my duplex for a year and it is not really what I want. But time and budget sometimes require patience. I am amazed that that quilt only took Pam three months to do BY HAND! It would have taken me three YEARS. Everyone here needs to understand that if she were paid by the hour for such skilled labor, that quilt would cost thousands of dollars. I’m not exaggerating at all. People don’t realize how much time handwork takes. She probably spent most of her time working on it during those three months. It is an enormously generous gift.

Just discovered your channel today. My home was built in 1906 and the oak woodwork, with the exception of one bedroom, has never been painted. I love my home but, due to my advanced age, began giving away things not used or, needed any longer. During the process I started to see my home in new ways and have begun to appreciate it's grace and beauty even more. You have inspired me to move things about and right now I am folding my basket of neck scarves after seeing your basket of kitchen towels. Looking forward to more of your videos and your gentle ways.

I am moving out of mine soon and my family wants to help me by packing it up while I'm gone on a big business trip that I had to rush out to. They think it's frivolous that I want them to leave it alone so I can give it a proper goodbye when I return and pack it up myself. Dear Rajiv, You have defined what makes a house a home. The peace and reverence of each item is palpable. The beautiful quilt made my eyes fill with tears. How she is able to be precision-focused with each loving stitch, tugged at my heart. It's like a painting that should be hung up and admired. You are blessed to know Pam Sorrells and she to know you. You are so generous in inviting us to catch a glimpse of your home. Bonnie Charlie, the cane love seat, and the kitchen painted in yellow which matches your yelloware bowls. Opening the pantry with jars of glass and zinc was so great. Your description of the chilli jar housing them, made my mouth water the hotter the better). "Deadly", made me lol. The watercolored portfolio, used as a reference to you, is priceless. Honoring your Mother in a painting in your bedroom above your bed with nothing competing with her image, no words can describe its impact. Blessing to you always, please do not close the door to us, for I would so miss it. Sincerely, Jersey Ann from NJ 🙂

I think real “adulthood” and maturity encompasses the acceptance of the patience involved in selecting the paint color for a room. My lord is it a pain in the ass but it’s also so good when the outcome is exactly what you were looking for.

I love the story about your building, and I salute that wonderfully, stubborn woman! Oh, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with renting a home! People often talk about it like it's a "lesser" thing, but as long as you have a mortgage, you still don't truly own your home, and there are many perks to renting (especially maintenance, although that might depend on where you live). I saw your earlier apartment tour, and I really enjoyed seeing the differences between the two, how you keep making changes to your apartment, like the walls, to fit your current taste. Those touches elevates a house and makes it into a home. However, I do always wonder, especially with smaller apartments, like this one appears to be, where do you put things like the vacuum cleaner, do you have a washing machine, etc? Do you really sit, for hours, days on end, on one of those chairs while working (I hate my office chair, my back loves it). And is that the same table/space where your would have dinner parties (it's in your bedroom, right?)? I am Dutch and I have lived in smaller apartments (what a lot of Americans would consider tiny) for most of my life. Funny thing is, I am currently moving from my biggest-small apartment to the smallest apartment I have probably ever lived in! I am moving to an apartment that is 35m2 (even for Dutch standards that is considered small!), and I have absolutely no trouble filling it with things that I find beautiful, on the contrary, I need to learn that I can't keep everything that I find beautiful, or that I am attached to (I do not want a storage box), especially since I really enjoy switching out things! *However*, I do have an issue with the things that I know to be useful (like the washing machine (no laundromats here), the drying rack (no dryer), or the vacuum cleaner) but are big and remain ugly, that I have trouble with! I would love an "alternative" house tour, to see the nitty-gritty, of these often not-so-pretty, but necessary things, incorporated into a small apartment. Thank you for sharing, and I am very happy you have found the place where you can be yourself and be, truly, at home..

It's early in the morning, and I've just walked thru my home to make sure everything is perfect for guests after brunch today. I had some extra time, so I decided to spend it with you. I love my space and everything in it, but often, don't take the time to appreciate it with the chaos of life. This morning, after watching your video, I had a moment. I am so blessed. Inspired, I'm off to the market for flowers and I'll come home and light a candle so that the delicate sent lingers for guests (and for me). Little things to "thank" the house, if you will, for bringing me such joy. Thank you for the reminder.

Watching you go through those watercolor paintings brought back such a sweet memory. I once had an online store where I sold original artworks. While cleaning my office, I threw away many unsold or unfinished pieces that had accumulated over time. A few years later I was helping my teenage daughter declutter her room and I found all of my old paintings under her bed. She had went through the garbage without me ever knowing and kept her favorites in a little leather briefcase similar to your croc one. It was sweet going through those paintings, telling her the stories behind each one, seeing how much she valued them. ❤

Hi Rajeev, As a Bengali I have lots of lovely saris and have made curtain panels out of a couple. But the quilt was out of this world ! Another thing that I thought I would share is the way I choose paint for a room. I grab a large sheet of paper and say I want green, then I use my water colors to create just the exact shade I want for the wall and then tape the paper to the wall and see how it looks from day to day. Once I have the shade I go to my local sherwin williams paint store and then find the shade that matches mine and have them mix it up for me. So it is just the reverse of your stategy ! Whatever works, right ? Anyway, love watching your videos and do stop by and say Hi when you are in Madison, WI.

Sublime video. Such a pleasure to watch. All those treasures. I look around my lounge to see the “one thing” and see it’s perhaps a bit too busy, but maybe not; I have a huge bay window (~ 12 ft tall) and I think that’s it. It’s the light. Along with my Swiss cheese plant that is now so big I can’t easily move it. My old brown leather armchair nestles between huge fenestrated leaves. It’s an ecosystem in itself. And I adore your kitchen. I used to dream of a big luxury kitchen but now I yearn for a kitchen like yours, compact but perfectly functional and so beautiful. Old, used but lovingly cared for objects. Bliss.

I personally like small homes. They're simpler to decorate, clean and be in, especially when we don't overcrowd the spaces and utilise it wisely. That's what you've done, Rajiv. You've curated an harmonious, curiosity place filled with meaning and beauty. Our home is small and really cute. Many people comment favourably, and then I point out the shabby paintwork. 😁 Funnily enough, they don't even notice it! I also KonMari'd our home, and it's a joy to open drawers and see every item without the need to rummage around. I still have a way to go before I keep it dust-free but my intention is very soon, to pack lots of pieces away so that dusting no longer feels like a chore. Watching this vlog has inspired me to get going on that. 🙏🏻 Love, Jacqueline from New Zealand 💙
