I am thrilled to share with you the process of my garden transformation over the past four years. I can't believe how much it has changed! It's still a work in progress and I'm already excited to make it even more beautiful next year 🧡
I designed the garden from scratch myself and have loved every moment of it. I hired local businesses to do the bigger jobs such as the sleeper edging, patio, pergola, lawn removal etc but tried to do as much as I could myself such as the planting, customisation of the bar, adding decorative posts, making my own wooden signs, staining of the pergola, bar and fences etc plus adding my own special finishing touches 🌺🦋🏝

True escape! How a garden should be. The only problem with it is I wouldn't want to go back in the house! You've managed to do a lot in the space without it looking contrived, which is what good gardening is all about. It looks fresh too!

I might hang some more trailing plants from the pergola, the decking will be finished plus a few finishing touches… And all the plants would have grown so that will make it look more lush and tropical 🌴🌺🧡🌻🌼

It's absolutely magical and you can see the love you've put into it. I've always loved your plants and the tips on caring for them so to see them so mature and large is wonderful! Also, the pergola, just wow. What a difference it makes. Do you think you will be sitting under it in winter with a heater?! I can somehow imagine it lol. I got a polycarbonate roof put on mine after seeing yours a while ago, glad I did now as there's nothing better than sitting under it in the rain! I also added a wood seat swing which is awesome for channelling my inner child, even though there's too many plants around to swing very far. What's so good about your garden also is you can't really see where it ends, or what's round the corner of the path. Brilliant design and attention to detail, one of my favourite gardens out of probably hundreds! Really well done!

I usually cover up my patio furniture for the winter but this year I have left it out under the pergola. I do have a patio heater which will come in handy 🙃🍁❄️

How do they survive in the sunless UK weather is my question

They are (semi) hardy (sub)tropical plants that die back in winter and will usually grow back next spring from the roots. Some plants will need to be dug up and the rhizomes or bulbs stores over winter like Ensetes. The Musa Basjoo is the only hardy banana that will survive without being dug up. It will die back also and come spring you will get new shoots.

Majority does not. Many have to be stored away at winter or protected with coatings to survive. Some are adapted like Yuccas and the Musa Banana can be cut to the ground and layered with protective coating and will shoot new growth in the next season.
