The finnish commuter train still exist, but on different line. It has been on Iisalmi-Ylivieska line since 15th of December

The ComfortJet is one of my favorite new trains, can't wait until it connects Czechia and Denmark. It's not flashy, but it's consistently very good and comfortable.

As a resident of the area covered by GWR, I completely agree about the seats on the class 800, and sadly they fitted similarly terrible seats when they "refurbished" their HSTs as shorter range sets.
@Danse_Macabre_125
@Danse_Macabre_125 2 күн бұрын
They didn't. Castle HSTs still have the same swats fitted in the late 2000s in standard class; won't talk about 1st as it doesn't exist. Which are also the seats you see in the ÖBB Railjet economy class and almost all Class 158s including all GWR ones.

Honestly, most of my rationale is: I can take some time off work here, I can skip these uni classes etc, so where can I go cheaply during that time? I usually just chase sub-30 euro flights or cheap deals on passes like Interrail, etc. 🙂

Nice little gazette. BTW the "commuter train that doesn't exist any more" up in Finland has pulled a shapeshifting trick. Two of these carriages are now used for the Iisalmi - Ylivieska service as that particular railroad was recently electrified and the horrible Czech diesel railbuses were finally phased out there two weeks ago and replaced with a cool loco hauled train! Did a few rides on that just after Christmas... For anyone looking for some very different Finland from the mainstream imago, I definitely recommend trying that!
@Simon-Andersen
@Simon-Andersen 2 күн бұрын
Oh yeah, I think I read about that! Next year is going to be exciting for Finnish railways-the Allegros back in domestic use, new sleeper carriages (if they don’t get delayed). I’ll probably find a way to detour up via Iisalmi-Ylivieska at some point too! 😄🚆

Cheers very much for the answers. Though with the NZ one, Wellington and Auckland has some rail stuff there…they have Wellington to Masterton, the Capital Connection between Wellington and Palmerston North, and Te Huia between Hamilton and Auckland. Everything else is just commuter within the Auckland and Wellington regions and as you said the tourist trains (Northern Explorer between Auckland and Wellington, Coastal Pacific between Picton and Christchurch, and Tranzalpine between Christchurch and Greymouth).

I have no idea why I am surprised to see my question in the video, excited to see more videos. Also, wanted to ask... if you could make DSB change one thing about the danish rail system, what would you change. I'd like to hear what you think since you've traveled on so many different countries lines, I personally think I'd get them to run more IC3 trains I think the hourly intercity lightning is annoying to time with, specially when having to travel by S train to catch it and then having a sometimes very short transfer window... I know there are a lot of factors. But well I want to hear how you'd improve it
@Simon-Andersen
@Simon-Andersen 2 күн бұрын
I think DSB really needs to improve their website and add some sort of "cheap ticket calendar" or a tool to find cheap Orange tickets throughout the day. Right now, it’s really hard to find Orange tickets compared to buses because you have to manually search through three departures at a time vs having everyhing displayed. No wonder people only see full-fare tickets when they search for a departure at 8 a.m., for instance.
@AbiRabb1t
@AbiRabb1t 2 күн бұрын
@@Simon-Andersen oh yeah that'd make a lot of peoples lives better. Mine included, the orange tickets are an amazing idea. but awful execution since yeah, pain in the ass to find... anygay, super excited to see your upcoming videos for 2025... also jealous that I can't go see some of these trains myself. but that day will hopefully come sometime soon, I really want to see a shinkansen irl as an example

I'm sure you have previously answered this one, but what do you like to do in the cities and/or countries you visit for the train videos, (and do you publish anything else from those travels?) I find it hard to imagine you would just travel to the places for the train rides and not check out the cities itself? I also would like hotel room reviews etc. of the accomodations you take, and even food reviews - but obviously I understand if that's not something that intrests you, filming everything could easily become very burdensome. Anyways, thanks for all of the videos this year, keep up the good work and have a great rest of the year : )

I only post the train/transport content. Usually, I just stay in hostels or a cheap hotel-it really depends on the trip and whether it’s a place I’ve been to before or not. I usually try to plan my trips around places where there’s actually something I’d like to see or do (i love hiking) 😊 For instance, Morocco was a 10-day trip, so I spent a lot of time just exploring!

Australian here. I think you have nailed it re our trains. We are great at suburban and interurban commuter services, but our long distance services leave a lot to be desired. Tasmania lost its passenger rail service in 1978, SA lost all except Adelaide suburban passenger service in 1990, and the remaining services out of Adelaide are the two transcontinental land cruises for the wealthy retired and an overpriced and extremely underserviced Overland to Melbourne. WA has only the Australind to Bunbury and AvonLink commuter distance services outside of Perth, which both should have more services, and the daily Prospector to Kalgoorlie as the only long distance services in the state. Queensland does well south of Rockhampton, with the exception of the Westlander, and incredibly slow service with all amenities stripped and only one or two trips a week. Same goes for the Inlander up north between Townsville and Mount Isa. So basically, if you're away from the immediate eastern seaboard of Australia, you're pretty much stuffed. Speaking of which, NSW should expand the regional fleet to enable both the Broken Hill and Griffith services to operate daily in each direction. This would eliminate some ridiculously long road coach rides in the state.

Hi what do you think about Czech railways? In czechia we are very negative to our Railway system and České dráhy, our national operator, so i was wondering what's your opinion about our railway system and České dráhy. Btw very nice video, keep going 👏
@Simon-Andersen
@Simon-Andersen 2 күн бұрын
Every country seems to hate its own national railway operator. Czech Railways (ČD) isn't bad at all-coverage is good, and trains are generally pretty frequent. However, they’re not very fast, and there are huge variations in quality across the network. That said, it’s improving a lot with all the new rolling stock being introduced!

I think I just look too much like a pale, white tourist, especially as a reserved Nordic one being constantly approached by various scammers, street vendors, and people (both good and bad), was very overwhelming for me. I did have a much more pleasant experience hiking in the mountains and visiting smaller coastal towns, though. I just hope Morocco can tackle the few bad apples that ruin the country’s potential to be a truly great vacation destination!

biggest problem with the trains in the UK are the ticket prices. I wouldnt be surprised if we have the worst value for money in the world.
@JaNieWie
@JaNieWie 3 күн бұрын
Well, the European Federation for Transport and Environment not too long ago stated that ticket prices are the most important factors decided by people when choosing the means of travel, and that in UK are some of the highest in Europe. In their comparative study, in which they determined best railway operators in Europe overall, GWR scored the lowest in ticket prices category, having only 1 point out of 10.
