Enchanted Slythern Yeah, just buy it a size bigger in advance and get it altered shortly before the wedding so you probably won't change much til the wedding then. No way I would put so much pressure on me for that one day and that one dress. Clothing has to fit you, not the other way around

I know someone who did it because they didn't have that much money and got a dress that was heavily discounted but about 1 or 2 sizes to small. Sewing in a bit of fancy lace trim and a corset back was what did the trick in the end and she even had a friend who could do it for her.

Honestly, I don't understand why she wouldn't just get it altered right away, or better yet just get a size that fit in the first place. No one will know the size but you, and a dress that fits properly will be MUCH more flattering than a dress you can barely fit into..... and you will be more comfortable too, which is a huge bonus considering you'll be wearing it for a while.....

It's because SHE knows what size her dress is. Its a confidence issue of some sort that plays in her mind that if she doesn't fit into a certain size, she won't be happy (the psychotherapist explained it at 5:10).

Folks, as a recently married person, let me offer this to anyone in the universe who needs to hear it. Don’t diet before your wedding! Don’t buy a dress that’s even a single size too small in the hope that it will motivate you to lose X number of pounds. It won’t! It will cause you undue stress and anxiety (see this video as proof) and keep you from enjoying all the wonderful social aspects of planning and celebrating your upcoming wedding. Buy a dress that you love in a size that fits you comfortably and relax in the knowledge that you haven’t added he wildly unnecessary stress of dieting to your wedding planning process.

For some odd reason a wedding dress is 2-3 sizes smaller than the number that you would find for your regular clothes. So a wedding dress 6 is actually a 3. I'm a 0-1, I ordered a 3 wedding dress. I knew this, and didn't care if the number was higher. NO ONE cares what the wedding dress size is. The only people who do is the wedding industry. The shop owner had the audacity of asking me if I was going to lose weight (which might explain the number manipulation, most brides apparently workout for their wedding) and I just laughed at her. Never tell anyone to lose weight, especially someone who would die doing it. There is nothing like life's milestones to make a woman feel awful, even as something as joyful as a wedding.

this same thing happened to me with my prom, which was five years ago. i became obsessed with my weight so that i could fit into the dress of my dreams. 6 months later, i'd lost almost 100 lbs and had realized that i'd developed a very severe eating disorder. i was extremely unhappy during prom night. aspiring to be "beautiful" for one night led me to intensely battling an ed for years, causing me to lose years of my life that i should've spent focusing on things that would positively impact me. as someone who never imagined i'd be in recovery from an ed brought on by something so stupid such as a prom dress: don't let weight determine your happiness, because you'll never be happy with yourself if all you focus on is your 'goal weight'. focus on your happiness, which is a mix of emotional, mental, and physical wellbeing. love yourself, because you absolutely deserve it!

This was a whirlwind.. 1. Crying because she can’t zip it up 2. Going on diets and losing weight 3. Talks with the lady about wedding dresses and why women get frustrated over the idea of not fitting in it 4. Still on diets and then realizes she doesn’t need to lose weight. She would have to remove a rib or so in order to fit. That’s a no go 5. Decided to speak with a psychiatrist and have her explain why she’s so obsessed with the idea of fitting in the dress (I don’t get why cause it’s irrelevant. You wanted to fit but failed to realize, hey, my ribs are right there not down near the floor) 6. FINALLY goes back to the damn alteration and gets her dress fixed. Girl you could’ve saved time and money by getting that dress fixed or returning and ordering a new size/sell it and go get a new one as a fast fix. 😪

She was already slim, many people don’t carry weight around their ribs anyway - I don’t really carry weight around my ribs, so even when I gained 30+ pounds I only went up one band size and the measurement was one inch up. @kaelaleedaley
@kaelaleedaley 6 жыл бұрын
Depending on the fabric that the bodice is comprised of, you may or may not be able to add a corset back, even with stabiliser. From what the seamstress was able to do, it would appear that a major alteration like corseting would be possible. If seams were reworked without visible damage to the fabric, removing a zip or adding corseting/trim would not ruin the dress. The look may not have been to the bride's taste and this was most likely discussed x

"I just need to go on a diet." You're not fat. Just because a dress is too small, doesn't necessarily mean that you need to lose weight. Especially if you have a healthy BMI. Getting it tailored is your best option and usually is a lot quicker than doing all of this other nonsense she did.

usually people schedule a series of alterations every month up to the wedding right after purchasing the dress. That's probably what should have happened from the start. And having worked in the industry, YES it's completely normal to buy a larger size than you expected to have coming in the store. Almost EVERYONE does!

This bride: My dress is super expensive. Also this bride: Lays flat out in bed with a dog walking around her/practically on her. Also this bride: Collapses on the floor trying to wrestle with the zip on the back. Also this bride: I bought my expensive dress in a size so small that I'd need to remove a rib or so to fit into it. First of all, I can't imagine not being able to tell when wearing the dress that it needs me to lose an impossible amount of weight/completely change my body structure to fit into it. Second of all, I can't imagine BUYING a dress, let alone an EXPENSIVE dress, that too for my WEDDING, that doesn't fit like a glove when I wear it. I would rather buy the dress that fits great and if I want to lose weight, I will (then I can get the dress altered if needed).

I relate to this so much!! The dream dress (with the most beautiful silver embroidery) I wanted was $250 out of my price range, but it was on the list of dresses being discontinued so the sample dress was available for purchase at a discount($300 off to be exact)!! It was barely too small when I tried it on and we decided that trying to lose weight for it to zip all the way was unrealistic. My dress unfortunately didn’t have any extra fabric so they would potentially have to ruin the embroidery to add panels. We decided that wasn’t what we were going to do. We decided to ditch the zipper and create and beautiful lace up with some beautiful silver fabric that matched the texture of the dress and shade of the embroidery. It turned out beautiful, but the month before our wedding I got sick, lost weight and then the day of the wedding the lace up was pulled as tight as it could go and wasn’t as pretty!! 🤦🏼‍♀️ We were pretty sure it would of zipped all the way if it still had the zipper... to this day thinking about this puts the song “Ironic” by Alanis Morissette in my head!!

A lot of these comments are "you should have fixed it to begin with" but from the standpoint of personal experience I totally get this- to me it's more about the mental pressures women deal with to be perfect, and often that is depicted as "the perfect size" or "the perfect weight". I had my dress ordered in the right size and taken in to fit correctly and that still didn't stop me from the bridal brain mental breakdown of wanting to look a certain way or be skinny enough or pretty enough on my wedding day. I'm getting married in 2 months and this video helped me feel more sane because I know i'm not alone...thank you for sharing!
