As a review I appreciate the workflow perspective, but you should of mentioned that the built in transcription service is subscription based, it is not free, limited to 600 minutes per month.

Thanks for the review! I think it’s also worth mentioning that the phone call recording is using the back of the phone’s vibrations during the call and therefore will not record calls while using a headset like AirPods for example.

Not sure if you’ve ever used this before, but it works amazingly. I would actually say the person’s voice coming through. The other end was more clear than mine and the transcription was perfect for both. Unlike any iPhone or android device I’ve ever used. Sure sound like a sales rep but I’m actually just a dad with ADHD who can’t find his plaid note at the moment. I’ve tested the call recording, which is one of my favorite parts and tested several other recording scenarios. I am an audio video technician so I’m pretty familiar with audio/how it works. This thing is legit impressive. I haven’t tested it yet but will and can almost guarantee you that by just holding it close to the AirPod etc while making the phone call doesn’t work then simply taking one out of your ear and putting it beside it definitely would work. But yes, you’re right. It is not able to hijack the Bluetooth signal nor record audio through violating apples, never ending regulations. I can consider this an amazing work around. Definitely worth noting that it uses a proprietary charger, although hold the charge for a long time. Definitely don’t be fooled by the Amazon look like that cost more money and has a tiny screen. It claims to have wireless charging, which is total BS. Well, I guess not but it acts as a tiny power bank, which is pointless. It tried to charge my iPhone. Probably would make much more sense for my iPhone to charge it. SMH. I’ve tried both and there is a world of difference between the chime note and the plot note. I even got the chime note for less than the plot note because the black Friday and still switched it out. Till I would buy a new one if I lost it Almost instantly… Speaking of I should probably get a Tile for that. Anyways, if you’re considering getting it do it! You can always return it if it’s not worth it. What to lose. I haven’t even figured it out yet and it’s helped tremendously. Want an example? Google mind mapping. Mind blown….

Can you record and Audible excerpt, for example? If so, do you put it in the 'phone' mode?

If you're just using your phone speaker, no need to put it in phone mode. Recording with the normal mode will do a great job :)

good review. 1. After the first year does one need the ChatGPT paid version or can one use it with the free one? 2. How clear is the cellphone recording can you do a demo showing both sides of a conversation? 3. If one doesnt want to take their subscription and use ones existing chatGPT account is that possible after the 1st year?

As far as I know you still need the subscription to use the transcription service.

Ive just got it. I think it’s going to be amazing for my job. Sometimes i need to chair a meeting/ interview and take notes and then write them up, this is going to be soooo helpful. I think its should be aimed at personal assistants, exec assistants and secretaries as it will make their jobs so much easier, rather than being thought of as useful for content creators etc. cant believe i only just heard about it.

Yeah, if you plug in the device to a computer you can access all the files and move them anywhere you like.

with the basic subscription can i delete old recordings and transcripts in order to create new space for other recordings and transcripts? Or the space for transcripts will not be freed up even if i delete the old ones? Is it possible to copy and paste the transcript into the normal notes of the phone?

Yes, you can delete old recordings as these are just stored locally on the device! And yes you can copy and paste the transcript :)

Hi Nick - the review was helpful. I have also noticed the limitations of the summary provided by the app. I didn't see the link to the pdf where you note the prompt you use to load the entire transcript into ChatGPT - could you please provide the prompt. Thanks!

Yes, you can! :) It only connects to the phone when you open the app and sync files.

Just purchased the plaud for class lectures. I love the notes taking and summary features. I'm disappointed with the recordings for my class lectures. I'm in a small classroom max 43 people and the recordings are not good 😢

Amazing piece of kit but no real reason why all these features shouldnt just be an app on your phone. Only reason Id want this would be to record private conversations covertly with a discreet device I could hide and retrieve. I used to have an app that automatically recorded all my calls...I presume its still out there somewhere

I'm inclined to agree. And I guess that doesn't bode well for the company, because presumably at some point Apple will implement it on the iPhone and then this gizmo will become redundant. Maybe that's why they're now producing the little note pin version; it really does provide the benefits of the discreet device (even if not for the covert purposes you mention 🤓).

Hey Nick - I have asked Plaud but no reply yet. Is the device able to work in any language OTHER than English ? Does it have translation capability ? Nice unbiased review BTW

Follow up with Plaud but I believe it has pretty limited multi language support for now. I haven't tested translating into other languages (as sadly I wouldn't be able to read them), but I've heard it's not that accurate.

It requires a phone and subscription to be able to transcribe (first 3 months are free and then you pay).

I think they've updated the software for the first limitation. You can set what type of "note" you're transcribing and it helps to how it organizes the transcription.

Hmm. I like it in a "oooo nice gadget" way, but do I $250 like it when my phone can pretty swiftly achieve about 90% (the other 10% being call recording) of its capability?
