In this video I show you how the ETC Ion lighting console I'm using to run a musical works. Doing audio and lighting for the entertainment industry was actually one of my first professions. I've been working in the entertainment industry for the last 7 years of life. I got this job because of all my previous experience with ETC consoles, I've been working with ETC consoles since the beginning of my career. I started on an ETC express 40, then I moved onto an ETC Element 60, then I moved onto an ETC Ion xe 20, and now I'm using an ETC Ion 40. ETC stands for Electronic Theater Controls. They make the Source Four fixtures which are some of the most popular lighting fixtures in the entertainment industry. They're consoles are also considered to be some of the best and highest end consoles on the market today. They're current flagship is the Ion xe, which I have had the privilege of using and I can say its differently the most capable and powerful console I've ever used, it runs windows 7 or windows 10 at its core. Unfortunately that was at one of my old jobs and this original Ion is a bit of step down but its still very capable and its still a step up over the express and the element. The nice part is they are all very similar operating systems, except for the express which is an extremely basic console that uses 3 1/2in floppy disks for its memory. They have similar operating systems because the Element, Ion and Ion xe are all part of the EOS family, EOS is the daddy of all these consoles, it was designed for being on the road and still is the king of that, while the Ion xe is their flagship and is a fantastic console, It just isn't as portable and is meant for more permanent installs. My last job was 100% LED, this job is the opposite and is almost all incandescent giving us quite a bit of a power draw, (About 350 kilowatts when everything in run at once). If you are interested in this kind of stuff I'd highly recommend watching Bigclivedotcom, he currently works his summers as a lighting technician for the The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Edinburgh Scottland. He's built and designed lighting systems from major players in the industry, including Disney, PRG and the BBC.
