What are the buttons being uses on the top row and on the tap tempo?

They are these things - amzn.to/3ZAfdNH They just add a little height so I dont press the bottom ones accidentally while I'm trying to tap the top row.

Thinking about getting an HX Stomp XL. Can I set it up like: guitar->HX Stomp XL-> loop pedal-> amp?

Yes you can. I ran mine guitar -> Hx Stomp -> amp. You can definitely add a loop pedal in between. Though the HX Stomp has a nice loop functionality as well

Instrument level. You can use both but instrument level prevents it from clipping the input.
