There is a lot to this, thanks for sharing. Your videos were very well done and it was my evening ritual to watch them last year. I am a visual storyteller but I use still photos. Well done.

Stabilizing is the main challenge on my Sony phone. The Google photos app has a really good stabilizer these days but it's not perfect, yet I don't want to buy more gadgets either. I use YouCut to edit. They really keep making that app better and more capable all the time. It does freeze a lot with 4K footage but the infallible autosave and fast boot make it ok. What features of power director do you prefer? I already notice that you can manipulate the volume more quickly which is nice. Lol about music at 100%, I usually use it at around 20%. I like to always shoot my 3x telephoto in 4k so I can crop it closer in post, same with anything that I'll be stabilizing in post, but of course the logistics of carrying that data mountain are problematic if you're out for that long. I like your hard drive setup. Cheers Jay!

PowerDirector had a stabilize feature as well but it isn't as good as my laptop editor. Do you film at 3x zoom? That would make footage much more shaky in itself. The wider the footage the less shaky it will be. I like that PowerDirector can add several layers of images from the base to another video on top then another on top and a text object as well. On my computer I'm used to unlimited layers so I like the flexibility. It also has key frames for videos and photos so you can do whatever you'd like to create movement or zooms for example in a 4k. It also has noise reduction which works pretty well with light background noise. I can also choose music by folders and most other apps I've tried just bundle all your music into one and I can't find anything. Have a fun time with the creating!

@@JayWandersOut thanks, I should try power director some time. I haven't experimented much. I do film at 3x zoom a lot, I love the perspective of depth it gives and how it brings the background closer, but it is so shaky that I'm learning it *all* needs to be stabilized in post unless it's shot on a tripod, regardless of my phone's EIS and OIS stabilizing, which just isn't enough, so I decided I'll carry a tripod and use it as much as possible.

Did you hear about the bill that was written, making it legal for groups smaller than 7 to film on public lands without a permit? It was a fast response. Thanks for the tips and instruction, Jay. What sort of hard drive storage do you use?
@JayWandersOut

Yep, I saw that. It seems to have been added to an old bill with a ton of other things included which many people objected to. We'll see of it gets through since the last time it was introduced it didn't advance at all.

I've been agonizing over the choice between a GoPro 10/11 and a 1" sensor P&S camera like the LX10. I have an old Hero 5 but its stabilization is lacking, and its photos don't approach a "real" camera's. My phone camera isn't great either (CAT S62). Seems like the 1" sensor (and f1.4 lens) would be dramatically better for stars and night shots, but the GoPro's processing really seems to make up the difference from what I've seen. No way I'm hauling my DSLR, more due to the lenses (weight and fragility) than camera body. Just hoping I'm not disappointed in the landscape still shots from the GoPro!

Yeah the 10's stabilization is a ton better than the 5. If they cost the same I'd go 11 over the 10 though since it has 10 bit color which will make the colors much better and smoother. It has no depth of field though so all pictures will look pretty flat. The only part not in focus will be anything within 10" so you can show some depth of field by having something really close like branches or grass in the foreground which will be blurred.
