Putting out a song every week is honestly insane. I don't think that's realistic for most artists at all. But if it works for you then go for it. I think it's a good idea to advise artists to net feel pressured to favor quantity over quality at the expense of favoring spotify's algorithim. At the end of the day, consistency is key but at what cost lol. Cuz every week is MENTAL

I see your monthly listeners have crossed 700,000, and your artist popularity index is at 50%, which is fantastic. Typically, artists with a popularity index of around 45% can make it onto editorial playlists. However, I noticed you haven't been featured on any Spotify editorial playlists. This is a bit puzzling, considering your talent and the quality of your music. You deserve that extra push more than many others. I am really curious as to why they havent put you on editorial!
@BeautifulBeats99
@BeautifulBeats99 10 ай бұрын
I’ve actually heard mixed reviews about being on editorials. A lot of times editorials just get random passive listeners and not organic fans but idk. Also you may be on it for like a week and then off it after that and it hurts the performance of the song. I’m not too worried about it honestly.
@BeautifulBeats99

@tokyogamer5825
@tokyogamer5825 10 ай бұрын
I completely understand your perspective, and if you tailor your pitch to your specific genre, editorial support can significantly enhance your "Fans Also Like" recommendations. This improvement arises from their access to better listening habit data, even if your save and follow rates may not be exceptionally high. It could be more about how artists are engaging with your music. Streams from editorial are not important in your case; it's more about spotify editorial evaluating your track's performance and placing it on more prominent "Algotorial" and "personalized editorial playlists." This approach can lead to substantial growth in your Spotify followers, potentially reaching millions of monthly streams without having to rely on FB Ads too much since you would have an extremely high follower count [Typically 10% followers listen on release radar first 28 days so if you had 100,000 followers that would be a great advantage on every release day to get your song above 30% PPI quickly]. You've got all the elements in place to aim for editorial features and the potential to double your income. I'm genuinely puzzled as to why Spotify hasn't featured your music yet, given your high index, but I'm not implying any wrongdoing. One possible factor to consider is the fan conversion rate, which can be a bit challenging, especially for producers. Have you been actively pitching your songs to the editorial team? If you specify the playlist you'd like to target in your pitch, I'm confident it can boost your chances of getting featured. I used to think that Facebook ads might not be the best data for Spotify editorial pitches, but I'm reconsidering that view, given the success I've witnessed. @@BeautifulBeats99

@@BeautifulBeats99 THIS. I’ve had three different songs end up on editorial playlists, and every time all it did was hurt the organic algorithmic performance for all the reasons you just wrote. Advice is great! So is your music!

This is quite a helpful video, thank you. I saw on Instagram a while back that you were focusing on shorter songs and I have implemented that into my writing process. I have definitely been the writer over the years that’s like “this song has to be 5 minutes long”…without any real metric for why it needed to be that way, and often times has multiple sections repeated. A song doesn’t need to be any certain length; if it’s a minute long, cool - if it’s 5 minutes long, cool. As long as I can appropriately convey what I want to say musically, then it’s all good. But I am leaning toward shorter songs overall.

This has to be the single worst thing about the music industry. Growing a Spotify account for "passive revenue", making music only to get views, and involving money in the entire process. I wish for a rise of passionate non-mainstream creators who make music to express themselves rather than make money, or at least the rise of similar musicians in the mainstream. Mindsets like yours only serve to make music more of a commodity, and less of an art form. Making music to pander to views, vs making music to express oneself.
@Nalihera

The thing is, everyone needs to make money to live, and if you work all day you can't make music to express yourself. Whereas, if you find a way to make money off your music, you can work doing what you like full time.

For some reason I had this belief that all my music on Spotify has to be perfect and the "Release every week" approach is "wrong" or "amaetur" Meanwhile, it's the approach I've always lived by. Commiting to doing the task (be it workout, meditation session, making content) - even if it's not that great at the moment. But consistently, over a long time period. Thanks man. @@Josh-zr9by No doubt, but you also can't deny that most doing this strategy will end up improving their music in the process. This weekly release approach gives you a goal to move towards. @Josh-zr9by
@Josh-zr9by Жыл бұрын
@@MyshkoMusic True, but it also raises the question. In one week, can a person make impactful music? Thoughtful music? Can it make the listener feel something, and delve into a niche sound? 99.9% of the time, no. In a week, they will be focused on churning out quantity over quality. I reckon once a month is a better strategy.
@MyshkoMusic
@MyshkoMusic Жыл бұрын
@@Josh-zr9by Yeah I guess releasing once a month would work better for many people. Maybe myself included even lol. I often have periods where I can't come up with anything I like no matter how much I try. I usually have to take a break to regain inspiration. As Beautiful Beats said, don't force yourself to release if you feel the quality isn't there But then again, the amount of time you spend on a project shouldn't be an indicator of how good it is. To this day, my favorite track I've ever released was one that I finished making in 2 days. And I have projects I've worked on for literal MONTHS just to end up HATING them.

Thanks for the content bro, very nice. Personally, I think releasing a song a week is a bit much but I do understand the concept behind it. I think per month is more realistic as it gives you time to promote the song properly. I managed an artist in NZ and we got a number 1 song through a combination of things, including some of the things you mention in this video. However, I would say that there is no perfect marketing plan as it depends on so many external factors. My suggestion to anyone reading this is to try a variety of tactics and see which combination works for your music.

I rarely comment on a video unless I'm leaving a positive comment, but I just feel it would be remiss not to respectfully disagree with the overall sentiment of this. A lot of the points made in this video such as releasing a track every Friday or only making short songs seem to take a coldly analytical approach to creation. This tactic may very well deliver streaming numbers but as artists/musicians, the most important thing should be to make art that you truly believe in and love.
@markcollins5932
@markcollins5932 11 ай бұрын
You’re right, the artistic element is the most important but other than the advice about making shorter tracks he’s basically saying that it’s important to have a sound and be prolific, like most great artists, then market your music so people can discover it. This is all if you want to get heard or have any kind of income specifically on a platform like Spotify.

@@KC-lg8qfBut you can do both if you learn to promote yourself but also grow a core fanbase the right way, start YT and a email list and create leverage for yourself, and connect with those people on a personal level, don't focus only on streams but view them as people and how you can connect with them via content. Your statement is far from the truth if you do it the right way. You should be able to be yourself and not do things out of your charecter just for promotion.

It the way to go if you are trying to grow an audience but it is like you are doing spotify music than… that’s sad… music is bigger than Spotify…. Damn, what a great video. I feel like I’ve watched countless hours in this niche now, and you actually said things I’ve never heard before. Very real, very helpful.

My biggest wooooo here was releasing something every Friday. 50 songs a year is a ton so I see how the numbers could sky rocket if you're also doing ads and promotion along with those releases.

Thanks for your fantastic advice, loved it and subscribed to your channel. One comment though: the random video cuts/zooms from the same angle were so distracting for me I had to turn my monitor off. It worked fine as a podcast, so no big deal. But if you could somehow A/B test a few videos with some of them just one long shot only interrupting when you are using other footage, maybe you would find people still sticking around without all the cuts? Looking forward to more of your stuff!

Thank you for this video! So informative and inspiring. Motivates me a lot to be more intentional and consistent with my music. I've only been releasing covers on KZbin and overthink all my original songs. Then I end up never releasing any of it.

Great advice. I’m new to streaming my music. I’m keeping my expectations realistic and I appreciate the value your approach as an artist. I’m on a personal wellness and development journey . The journey is the destination! I’m available in the future for collaboration if you want to add live guitar to the mix. Sincerely,Norman Lee Smith Music 🎸

very clever way of building traffic and feeding the recommendation algorithm accurate data - people have heard a snippet and interacted with the link so they're less likely to listen partly, especially if you yend to make your songs shorter

Thanks so much for this! I've been putting a song every week this year since February, I'd love a course on the marketing!

As an artists I drop 1 song every 6-8 weeks. For me every week is burnout mode unless you have a big catalogue when you start already, which I didn't.

I like this guy. I been around music industry a minute. And your frame of mind is winner. I like your take on producer artist relationship. You don't hear that much from producers. I think most just wanna break upcoming artist pockets for just a beat. No promo etc.

I trust you since I've seen you video grow, do you think you can make a video on HOW exactly you get that 50% cut with your collab artists? The royalties side of things is an enigma to me haha

as an independent artist if you and that artist use the same music distribution it’s very easy. You can do it through distrokid very easily

The one thing that is the hardest for me is "sticking with my niche" When I record, I don't think about what genre I'm making, I just start doing stuff. If I do everything else EXCEPT for that, do you think I could still find success in growing on Spotify?

For someone who started making music last year, and who has seen the ups and downs and the struggles of getting those clicks to your spotify and the endless hours spent on making reels and tiktoks, only to get 50 likes and 300 views, I needed to watch this video. Your best advice - 'Put out a song every week or every 2 weeks, why not?' I asked myself, 'WHY NOT?' And it's so simple. Not like anyone cares. Nobody is going to come and tell me, 'STOP RELEASING SONGS EVERY WEEK, THAT's BAD STRATEGY'. So why not? I am going to try this. Maybe I won't be able to put out a song every week, or even every 2 weeks, but I WILL TRY. Thanks bro.

Agreed with every point you said except sticking to one genre . It's just a personal preference for me to create in the mood of the moment without boundaries . Defiantly logical advice though , Great vid

Awesome video and very inspiring. I have over 900 recorded personal songs which I free style mostly. I have never wrote lyrics down only recorded during my free styling. Listening to instrumental rap beats, country beats, and my personal favorite is free styling to instrumental violin hip hop beats over Spotify and KZbin. Always in search of free styling to copy write free instrumental beats. Never releasing one single song which I put all my heart and soul into each lyric my mind produces. Someone who has the blessing of being a great all around athlete. No matter what sport they are playing, the person just shines without even realizing how talented they are. Same exact concept goes for great, talented musicians. You either have it in you or you don’t. A hidden champion who can create a killer song by listening to any random instrumental beat is the same as the best all around athlete. When I am free styling to country, rock, rap, hip pop instrumental beats, I find my true power inside, while my passion takes over and my mind opens up to the unimaginable possibilities. It’s extremely hard to explain this correctly. I never listen to the radio. I only listen to my own songs and free styles I recorded along with random instrumental beats. MY personal hidden talent i discovered at the age of 12yo, never telling a single soul until today. Being nervous that all my music and lyrics will be stolen the second I release one of my free styles. But I am at a point that if any artist wants to take my lyrics that means I am doing something right. Thank you for inspiring me today. I will potentially start sharing over 900 of my recordings. “A hidden talent should never be hidden” “Robert Feifer” This is my advice to anyone who has a serious hidden talent in anything. Never hold onto it alone. This has nothing to do with making money with your talents. This has to only do with sharing our true love and passion with the world around us hoping to inspire other’s along my journey. #Beautiful Beats, You are a Champion! I am only here to inspire, admire, help, guide and learn new information each day I have another opportunity to see the light. Thank You for your time reading this.
