That's a pretty big deal. That means you walked the walk. It also means, outside of your immediate zone of co-workers and supervisors you have been noticed as a "Pro". It's better than Rookie of the Year (you're no longer a rookie anyways!), it usually means you're in contention for something even bigger. Best of luck.

I got BTZ in 88 while I was at Osan. I was on the outs with management at the time so I answered the questions like I was on Jeopardy (“What is AFR35-10”) and after missing three questions in a row I asked to buy a vowel and if I could spin again (the kennel master was laughing, the only Wheel fan I guess). When they asked me what I like most about the AF I said the Early Out program. A week or so after the board our commander came to guard mount and gave me the stripes. I was embarrassed because I thought it was a big mistake and they would take them back. Went to the shirt the next day and asked him, he said no mistake, congrats. What the hell were these other people doing at the board? They must have walked in backwards.

I recall when I won Below the Zone (1989) I had to meet Three Senior NCO's in my Squadron in my Dress Blues. Each NCO asked three questions each (Current Events/Air Force Knowledge/Career Knowledge). Bam!

I'm proud to say I was promoted early by successfully competing in the Below the Zone program. That was back in 1979. I made (E-5) Staff Sergeant in about 3.5 years. Seeing this video reminds me of the stress I was feeling at the time. I'm glad I did it and I'm glad it's behind me. My boss, MSgt Ames, submitted my name for consideration without my knowledge. Initially, I did not want to go through with it. I remember studying the Air Force manual in preparation and trying memorize every bit of trivia I could find. A big one was chain of command all the way up to the President (Commander in Chief). Also, I remember that eye contact and voice projection (without yelling) were key elements of the interview. I don't remember sitting down. After entering the room and reporting, I was told to be "at ease" and stand at "parade rest".

Yes, if you already have a BA you can transfer your credits to your CCAF. Chances are the only classes you may be missing for degree completion will be LMMS. Leadership/management classes. You can easily use Cleps and dssts to knock those out. 👍

@@CyberCreamy The input wasn't given to discourage you from trying. Just to clarify the difficulty and selection process. If you have a STEM related degree, competitive GPA, recommendation letters, certs or licenses, community involvement etc, that will give you the best chance of going civ to officer. -Air Force Recruiter

I went towards enlisted instead of officer because like Terrell said it is a more difficult path, but it wouldn't hurt to apply once or twice I did apply two years ago for like intelligence, cyber and a navigator didnt get pick. I decided to go reserve in cyber systems just to get my certification, and experience. If you decide to go either enlisted or officer I Highly recommend getting comptia Security+ before going to basic training or officer school because it's a requirement and if you dont pass it in either tech school you will get a different job believe me I had a few friends get reclass best of luck.

@danielregaldo1365
@danielregaldo1365 3 жыл бұрын
TSgt here, out in CA. No, don't fret. Your LoC from tech schoolwon't be an issue. You're still in the phase where you're learning how to be in the Air Force. Right now, don't worry about BTZ. Worry about things that are in your control, which is learning Airmanship and your AFSC. When you get to your first duty station, you will want to become reliable at your position and be a go to kind of person. You'll want to lead at work when/if possible (Sq booster club is a good one to get your name out or the Base First 3 club) as well as progress in self improvement. I wouldn't do Cleps for education because higher education colleges may or may not accept them outside of a normal class. TLDR; always learn, always progress yourself while bringing up those around you and always be reliable.

No, these won't count. PT is a standard and as such, don't count it as that. Self improvement falls under things like progressing towards a degree, professional certs that aren't required for your AF position. As well as leadership seminars. Those are the big ticket items that I have seen, the first two are preferred, with the latter being most favorable if people haven't done school or certs.

@@philquintana7790 I was in Iraq, and I used to lift every morning and I got on friendly terms with a guy that was in the Army that got up early as well. We became good friends during that time...but we never spoke a word about work as we lifted, just life in general. I was in CES (that's Civil Engineer Squadron, aka dirt boys, aka construction workers). One day I saw this guy walking down the middle of the road on base (Kirkuk Regional AB, Camp Warrior for you guys...I'm assuming you're not AF) with an air of superiority I've never seen before on a base, and I mean: right down the middle of the road. I had to stop and just stare. It was awesome. Vehicles moved out of his way. He was like Moses parting the sea. As he got closer, I recognized my lifting buddy. I had no idea. He was a Command Sergeant Major. He recognized me using his peripherals, and gave me a quick wink, and kept walking. Right down the middle of the street. He was badass. The next morning we had a good laugh about it. I had no idea. I was an E-7 (but not as a shirt yet). He was a King.

If you’re a woman, you’re almost guaranteed BTZ. I went up against 21 other Airmen awhile back, 4 of which were women. Only 3 stripes were given and only the women got them. 1 of them being universally hated by everyone she worked with because she reported anyone who called her by the wrong pronouns (which changed every other day) and also could do her job to save her life, etc. Moral story, BTZ is a fucking joke. You’ll almost never see someone who actually deserves it, win. Note: This comment has nothing to do with the video and I’m not hating on women. All I’m saying is BTZ shouldn’t be based on if you have vagina or not. It should be based on job performance and the capability of being a SrA at an early stage of your career. Though, in my opinion honest opinion, BTZ should no longer exist. It was a dumb idea, probably made by some high ranking individual looking for a quick bullet for their EPR. If you know the actual responsibilities of a SrA, you’ll understand why handing it out early is stupid. Sorry for the rant. This shit just bugs me because I have to deal with these dumb BTZ SrA on a daily basis. Im currently watching shops in my squadron fall apart because of these issues and BTZ is part of the problem.
