That's an interesting take on the hobby, and I resonate with it. I guess it's easier for someone that already has an appreciation for art to see the beauty in what people perceive as ordinary. It's also easier to set aside details like sound and typing feel when it's not the focal point of the subject itself. This is one of those cases where I'd place form over function. The Jane V2, albeit a little controversial, is amazing to me. It shows that TGR is willing to grow past his previous work, while keeping a few elements present in the OG Jane. It truly feels like a revision.

Regarding the white dots due to the LED's. This 100% correct! One of my daily drivers is a old Tina-C in Black Ano that I have used for a very long time, A few months ago I opened it to fix a stab rattle that started to annoy me and tempest mod it. To my surprise the LED's had eaten the ano job and had white and brownish spots right under every LED resides.
@dill-keebs Жыл бұрын
Ahh okay, it was a little bit jarring when I first noticed it. But since its only inside the case I guess its not that big of a deal, I’ve since turned the LED’s off since I couldn’t really see them with the switches anyway but its something to consider with the Jane

I gotta say I prefer the 910. I think the colours and layout compliment my preferences better, and thanks so much I really appreciate it!
@hanabo2865 Жыл бұрын
Yeah to be honest, the sound test were a bit disappointing, but that's maybe how it's supposed to be. Stock Hyperglides is a hot choice, but you do you. Also, you said you're actively learning how to type with ten fingers. When doing this, you should completely abolish your old technique. Changing between both just slows down the process of getting used to the correct technique. It can be frustrating at first, but once you've got the accuracy, speed will come in no time!
@dill-keebs Жыл бұрын
Not my favourite sounding keyboard tbh. I will stick by my point that theres a variety of methods to change how it sounds, and finding what i think sounds good might take a bit of experimentation. Also I think you’re correct with learning how to type properly too, I’ve been going back and forth recently and not much progress has been made, but I appreciate your comment and will try to do that from now on, thanks!

Why is everyone so hell-bent on using MX Blacks on their TGR Janes? I have Crimson Red with PC plate and Suave Blue with alum plate (I know - why 2 - I just love the colors, especially the red one) and I have scoured the youtube to check various sound profiles of TGR Janes to help me decide what switches to use with both of them. And the result -> 90% of videos feature MX Blacks - come on! Like why is everyone putting MX Blacks on their TGR Jane. There are so many other switches. I will use Gateron Ink Blacks v2 and possibly Popus just because I could not build another TGR Jane with Cherry MX Blacks, Vintage Blacks, Hyperglide Blacks or something like that - although - ironically I am planning on using Gateron Ink Blacks v2 - but these have different sound profile to the former blacks I mentioned. If you are still reading this, you can probably tell that MX Blacks on TGR Jane are quite infuriating for me - and you are absolutely right.

I prefer the Jane for its aesthetics however I prefer the 910 overall. I like a smaller, more compact keyboard as it allows me more desk space. And the 910 feels a bit more lively.

While I agree that its stupid to not call it a Jane, I still think its scummy of Monokei to advertise it as a board that "retains signature sound profile of Jane v2". It does not sound like the Jane v2, and that's perfectly fine, but don't lie to your customers. The removal of brass internal weight is also a mistake (IMO), and the magnets are too much of a hassle.

If you're still able to eat food and afford rent then you haven't really spent "too much money on keyboards". What's the downside of spending money of a hobby if it isn't causing life problems? No - the Jane isn't for most people because it's expensive and low-volume in production, its monetary value solely defined by its cultural reputation/clout within the hobby rather than any actual admiration of the sound profile and such.
@dill-keebs Жыл бұрын
Haha true, we should be able to enjoy this hobby to our full extent. And yeah I agree with you. Would I like everyone to experience a Jane, sure, but I understand it’s an expensive keyboard that as you mentioned, is not an in stock product. Really like how you defined its value too. Thanks for the comment!
@Missingnin69 Жыл бұрын
@@dill-keebs a lot of people can experience Janes by going to meet ups (which is what I did) - but the "custom" part of the custom hobby is lost, as you're not in your exact desk setup in a closed room with your exact choice of caps, etc. Imo it's understandable to appreciate the Jane as a recent influential design due to its Toblerone weight, but I see it on equal footing to a number of other designs that are available on gb or in stock without raffle, both in terms of sound signature and visual aesthetics. Some boards even lean into a more artistically inspired "themed" element (to do with a visual topic, anime, etc.) as opposed to sound, but the Jane is well outside that territory. I think if one attends a meet up as if it were a shop where you can try out options before committing financially, this can help you get a more clear opinion on one's own tastes

@@Missingnin69 To be fair to the Jane V2 CE, it ran prior to the explosive growth of the hobby in the COVID era. The offerings in the keyboard hobby back then weren't nearly as diverse, well-designed and well-priced. Compared to its contemporaries, the Jane V2 CE was a good board. But yeah, the aftermarket prices on Janes are obscene nowadays and are largely driven by clout. If you want to own a Jane for a fair price and don't care for its clout, you'd be better off just designing a lookalike yourself and having a one-off manufactured (don't try to run a GB of it without the designer's permission of course). The Jane has a very simple design which even a beginner keyboard designer could copy by eye with 90% accuracy.
