Thank you, Tom. I've had the Sibilla Indovina deck for awhile now. Just haven't been able to "get it". This video is hugely helpful. I enjoyed your comments that shed some light on this particular deck. Helped me understand why I'm just not clicking with it. I actually got the deck out and looked for the offending card that you mention. Yeah, that seals the deal for me. I think I need to try again with a different deck. Lately I've been eyeing the Gypsy Oracle deck. So glad you used that one in your teaching segment. * My focus has been the Tarot for decades. So the Sibilla cards are a bit of a departure. I enjoyed the story-line you created, and your general approach. You have enabled a fresh look and inspired a more relaxed approach. I look forward to placing an order for the Gypsy deck. Many thanks for this video.

I thoroughly enjoyed this video and your approach. The readings were great - they flowed beautifully. 👏 I started out with Venturi's book, but I'm pretty sure her teachings are only one of many "traditional" Italian methods. I've been working on finding my own Sibilla voice, part of which includes not using reversals, because upside-down cards give me a tic, LOL! I use surrounding cards to indicate whether a card is showing its upright or reversed aspect, and thinking about it, I generally treat a "reversed" card the same way you do, unless I happen to remember a specific traditional meaning that might apply. The problem I have with Lenormand is that when I started I really wanted to do it "right" and I took the *rules* to heart! And it really cramped my style. It was shifting to playing cards that finally made me realise it was okay to read cards my way. I know the standard meanings, I know the protocols, and they inform my method, but then I go with intuition. But even now, although I'm comfortable using other systems, I still struggle with Lenormand. Feeling guilty under the gaze of the Invisible Lenormand Police, I suppose. 😉

I had that EXACT same problem with Lenormand. Now that I'm giving myself some freedom to play, I'm having a slightly better go of it. But it really turned me off for a long time. When I learned that Sibilla existed, I promised myself I would learn it on my terms and create my own rules and not worry what anyone else said about my methods. Having done that, I have to say I've gotten some pretty precise readings, which I'm thrilled about.

I think it's not important that readings are accurate for the client than "accurate" to the cards. Crazy idea, I know.

"Letterato" means "Scholar" in Italian. It appears Google Translate has mistranslated it as "Men of letters". Note: The telescope on the Belvedere ("Fairview") card is supposed to be reversed like it is depicted in the il Meneghello version. "Artista" is a secondary meaning to the "Letterato" card. There was also a printing error on the Masenghini version that echoed into modern decks. The switch between "Giovane Fanciulla"("Young Woman") and "Presente Pietre di Preziose/Omaggio di Preziosi" ("Gift of precious stones/Homage to precious things"). The "Wedding" card is traditionally the Greek god: "Imeneo/Hymenaeus". I don't agree with certain translations on the Sibilla della Zingara. I love learning more information on these cards. There was another book that recently came out on the Sibilla Della Zingara in English that's not on Amazon. I'm curious to see if it actually follows the Sibilla system or the "Zigeunerkarten/Gypsy Cards" system (which is similar but still different as it only has 36 cards and what have you). The deck you didn't show is based on the French tradition of Sibilla rather than Italian on. Anyway, great to see your perspective on how you read them. I may consider doing another challenge for these cards again.

Loved discovering these cards by accident. I thought the Sibilla Della Zingara would have been just an oracle deck but I ended up discovering a whole new system.as a result. Glad to see you still using Sibilla cards.

Love this! I love that differences in translation. And a challenge would be super fun!!
@SpookyStregaAL7 жыл бұрын
love this info, can you tell me why the telescope is supposed to be reversed?
@NorsePaganTarotWitch7 жыл бұрын
The telescope is supposed to be reversed because it represents something arriving quickly rather than needing to wait a very long time for it. Like its inverted meaning.

Psst...just as an aside, if you put your phone in airplane mode before recording, you won't be interrupted by calls or texts - but you must turn airplane mode off to download. Thanks for doing this - I was not familiar with Sibilla cards. Simon @ The Hermit's Cave recommended you for this subject and so I am learning.

I’ve always been intrigued but avoided Sibilla...never reaching that pivotal point to want to delve into figuring out how so many people cards could possibly be a good thing...until this video!! (I feel similar to the Kippers I have and never used!) I think I have a Sibilla (maybe 2!) so now I see how “user friendly “ they are I’ll schedule them in :-D I’m SO anxious for your book!!! I can hardly stand the wait! Very exiting! Best example of using Sibilla I’ve ever ENJOYED! Thanks.

I love this video. I learned so much. I ordered this deck & the Gypsy Oracle Handbook by Jacqueline Murray from Amazon. I will be checking back often for more of your videos. I too get caught up trying to learn all the rules & get incapacitated. I've done that with Tarot. I ordered the Tarot Tracker (from your other video) hoping it will help me move along with Tarot. Thanks for the inspiration!

I agree with James Himm Mitchell below. The Sibilla is a bit sharp. I think that the Kipper cards have a more friendly tone (Kippergeist).
@thefoolsjournal7 жыл бұрын
I'll have to look at Kipper more closely. I've only got the German deck, and I haven't gone about translating the cards, but I like the deck itself a lot.

Suddenly... Wild board of directors appear: 'no, you're doing it wrong! Start all over' Hahahaha. (could NOT help myself). But really interrrestinnng! I've been eyeballing the blue box Sibilla deck you have there. But to be honest- I can't get on any new study projects at the moment, but I most certainly will some time in the future. Great to know how this more-less works and what the decks look like compared too. Keep them awesome vids coming!

Really enjoyed the video, Tom! I've been having an on again-off again, pick up and put down relationship with Sibilla. I really want to love it, but sometimes I feel it leans more to the negative, especially if I consider most of what's in the "Italian Cartomancy" book. I've come to the conclusion that, if I pick Sibilla back up again, I will definitely be breaking with tradition (unlike when I read with Lenormand and Kipper) and making the cards more my own. P.S. I so loved your disclaimer at the beginning! :-)
@thefoolsjournal7 жыл бұрын
Ah, I'm glad you enjoyed this. Yeah, I think there's something nice about breaking tradition once in a while. It is funny, I think it would be interesting to do an anthropology study on what one could learn about a society based on the divination tools it used at a given time. But, yes, I think Sibilla has some stuff in it that make sense. And ahhh my disclaimer... I could see what was coming down the pike. So far, so good.

I ordered this deck online from Europe and I am wondering why the back of the card looks very different. In the deck I purchased the back is the same as the design of the box I believe it is lady fortuna? But in this deck it’s a brownish design. I googled it and the backing of the deck varies. I’m worried if I purchased a replica or a fake of the deck but the box is the same and it says it’s by Lo. Is there other versions of this deck with the back or do fake ones exists?

@captainnolan50627 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the video. There is another book on Sibilla in English called “Gypsy Oracle Cards,” by M. Jacqueline Murray that give you meanings and shows you spreads. The Italian Cartomancy book is good on definitions, but seems to be a teaser for the course, and a lot of information is withheld.

In the second 3x3 maybe the two enemies are his new coworkers who are jealous of his joy in getting the job, because maybe he got the job through the friend you mentioned at the beginning, and they had to work up to their positions the hard way.

Stupendously awesome video! I had a thought--prolly not worth much. I wonder if the connection is easier because Lenormand is all symbols but Sibilla has people (and by extension, roles) on the cards. Just fwiw...and maybe not worth typing at that ;) Book?? When???
@thefoolsjournal7 жыл бұрын
That's a great though! It may will be the case. I do have a difficult time connecting the meaning of the Lenormand cards together into an answer, but I don't really find that with the concepts on the Sibilla... and it may will be because of the "humanity" of the concepts. The book is in its first edit, and nearly done that. Then a final edit, and I'm sending it off to have it listed. :-)

Maybe the enemy cards signify his attitude; being out of work so long he's a bit defensive and out to prove himself, which might make him unlikeable at work? I think you hit on that already when you said he should be cheerful. I think that could be constructive advice to give him, while not being discouraging about the job. Love your videos and I have ordered the Gypsy Oracle deck thanks to you!
