I do wonder why TCW didn’t have episodes that showed Anakin’s promotion to jedi knight or the first encounter with Ventress, or the first appearance of Grievous, or even the introduction of the clone commanders. They don’t even have to be the first episodes, frame them in the context of a flashback or a story that Ahsoka was curious on and was told by either anakin or another jedi. With TCW’s approach of episodes being released out of chronological order, they could’ve been placed in any season and even forego the flashback approach, instead serving as self-contained episodes. It’s strange that key moments like these haven’t been explored anywhere in the disney canon, but shown very clearly in the EU canon.

Even in pages like wiki anyone can easily verified that Ahsoka Tano was a character created by Dave Filoni and barely co-worked by George Lucas, in fact the only stuff that Lucas decided for Ahsoka were 2: 1-Lucas, who had two daughters, back then just wanted a new character to appeal to girls. 2-Early in development from Filoni, Ahsoka's name was "Ashla". Lucas renamed her after the ancient Indian emperor "Ashoka the Great", but the spelling was then later altered by screenwriter Henry Gilroy.
Here's something a little ironic I found in my research on TCW's early development. The original plan proposed by Filoni before Lucas personally included himself in the project was quite similar to your proposed plan: "Filoni's initial idea for the series revolved around a recurring cast of characters who traveled aboard a spaceship similar to the Millennium Falcon; the ship's crew would have included a smuggler, his girlfriend, a gungan named "Lunker," a Jedi padawan named "Ashla" and her Jedi Master. This early concept for The Clone Wars was designed not to interfere with existing continuity, and as such would have included only occasional appearances from film characters such as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. However, once Lucas became involved, he decided that the show would focus on the film characters, but would also include some of Filoni's ideas, such as Ashla (whose name was ultimately changed to Ahsoka).[54]" I suspect then that this early show setup was then re-purposed into Rebels. What that speaks of the possible quality of the show then is a little hard to say.

He was knighted quickly in both Clone Wars shows. When a Jedi becomes a knight, they're allowed to take a Padawan. @Mackenzie Bauroth But the dark horse comics showed the dark and depression feeling of the clone wars a lot better than the early seasons of the show. Showing that the republic is at the low ground position in the early years of the war. Because the separatists already have a fully functioning military while the republic were barely aware of the clones existence until episode 2. Also at this point the venator class star destroyer(not cruiser, I still don't know why they're called that even though they are a carrier/destroyer hybrid) only having assault ships and a few support small ships in the early years of the war.
@bionic-tale43133 жыл бұрын
@Mackenzie Bauroth I know you're trying to connect the two, but to me it seems like you're kind of making up excuses to solve Anakin's early knighting. He was rebellious teen/early adult in episode 2. The council wouldn't knight him after he constantly disobeyed their orders time and time again. Not to mention Yoda sensing him slaughting the tusken raiders on Tatooine in anger for killing his mother. Why would they instantly promote him after failing to stop Dooku from escaping? Why would they give him a padwan even though Anakin wouldn't be a perfect choice given his state of mind at the time. I mean Anakin was a padwan at the time, but the war has taken a toll after witnessing many tragic events like seeing padwan sacrificing themselves in a losing battle, and force to make hard decisions which some are influenced by palpatine. He didn't become a knight until proving himself after two years of battling for the republic. Even then, the Jedi didn't trust him due to his emotional problems, and would in no logical way give him a padwan, because of how his problems could influence the young one. Quinlin Voss although have problems, mostly kept his emotions under control until he was spying for Dooku.

The problem with trying to do TOR animation is that was done using motion capture animation, which can shoot the price of the show through the roof. Also motion capture isn’t the only option, after all there have been movies... Well, at least one movie, that didn’t use it in order to get realistic facial animation. And yeah, I do know what was that movie’s budget, I wasn’t saying it would’ve been sustainable ^^)

Darth Maul’s role is being filled by Savage Opress. Give him more in depth character development and have him as a competent foil to the main hero of the series (Ahsoka is a great character, but she should have been Plo Koon’s Padawan). Savage is one of Dooku’s top Acolytes and has an obvious rivalry with the likes of Asajj Ventress and Sora Bulq. I would make it like tartakowsky anime style, so the budget doesnt go through the roof. Also, you can do more scale with classic animation: Lets compare the invasion of Muunulist in CW 2002 with any invasion sequence in TCW. In the Muunulist attack u have hundreds of ships while in TCW u have like what 20 at most? It doesnt make any sense that 20 ships would be enough to take an ENTIRE PLANET. With trad animation u can do a galactic war more believable with scale.

TCW and Dave Feloni were Disney Star Wars before Disney Owned Star Wars. He paved the way for that kind of "I Don't Give A Shit About Canon" storytelling. The only reason no one holds his face to the flame is his bullshit smelled less worse than what Disney produced. Add that to the fact you have a bunch of channels (like Geeks & Gamers for example) misleading unsuspecting viewers in to thinking what Dave did as the best of what used to be, and you have a very good case for why he contributed to the argument for why Disney aborted the EU in 2014.

Great video Tadd, lots of good points, most of these things I've thought about while watching TCW. How many times I've rolled my eyes when something is depicted in a too childish way or when something happens and breaks established continuity. Haden Blackman wrote a ton of my favorite Star Wars stories, he, just like Genndy knows what's cool and interesting when he sees it and gives you the story in a way that keeps you interested. Dee Bradly Baker is a good actor, he's done some amazing work on other shows and he's talented but he just doesn't sound anything like Temuera Morrison, I don't know why they picked him. Every time I watch TCW and I hear his voice for the clones all I manage to think about is "sounds nothing like him" and this breaks the little immersion that this show provides for me. We've heard good Jango Fett voices in KZbin audio comics - if youtubers can find an actor that sounds like him then Lucasfilm should have too. The Clone Wars started with episode 2, ran for a while with the comics, the books, the OG 2003 Clone Wars animation, the games and ended with episode 3. Maybe after Revenge of the Sith they should have gone directly into Dark Times stories that were less explored as a time period or they could have gone into a period after episode 6 and into the Legacy era and Geroge could have told the stories he wanted to tell before he "retired" that would focus on Leia and her kids, Darth Talon, etc.

If it had been Darman she had saved from that Padawn's blade, then I'd understand but it wasn't. It was a random 501st Trooper. Gritty does not equal nonsensical. Unfortunately, Traviss often doesn't know the difference between the two, and stoops into Grimderp territory.

J Sailer uhm, dude- you realise that it was a heat of the moment-kind of reaction, right? It’s even said in the novel. And in the worst possible moment she regained her senses and realised she couldn’t whip out her lightsaber to defend herself because that’d mark her for death as well. She didn’t want to die. But Etain was by this point a soldier in mind, drilled to protect, and those instincts don’t think about possible consequences.

Captain Fordo, what about a hard timeline retcon of changing the Clone Wars from 3 years to a 5-6 year long war so that both the original MMP plot, and a restructured TCW story might exist? This way, it's still 2 years and 6 months into the war that Anakin is knighted, he can still have his padawan as Ahsoka (one of my favourite parts of TCW), and we can just delete or change the New Mandalore plot. Potential plot fixes: the New Mandalorians are not on the actual planet Mandalore, but Satine's homeworld of Kalavela, which was meant to be a desert wasteland. They change the name to 'New Mandalore' and set up a society in opposition to the true Mandalorians. Quinlan Voss' TCW storyline is deleted entirely. Rex is turned into an Arc Trooper and replaces Alpha-17 later in the war, so that Alpha can train the other Arc troopers. Maul is retained as a late comer into the war. Ventress' original story is retained with only scant mentions of Dathomir's witches. However, her redemption Arc can be kept and she becomes a more unique character due to Voss (but no romance). Barris can either just not fall, or fall later due to her time as a healer, becoming crazed due to the loss of her friends. Also, her age is retained in MMP and she is a mentor to Ahsoka Anakin can grow into the character we see in TCW and ROTS All the TCW timeline changes are explicitly moved forwards into this last extra 2 years of the war, and any conflicting details is retconned in TCW to match the MMP. Thus MMP takes precedence between the two. Release rewrites of Labyrinth of Evil and ROTS novelisation to mention Ahsoka's death (because an authentic padawan of Anakin must die). Which creates greater disillusionment with the Order and gives significant reason for his fall. Ahsoka being Yoda's hopes to teach Anakin to let go of attachment, but due to the Council's mistakes leads to strengthening his attachments. Also Anakin's age is more sensible, around 25 in ROTS, and Obi-Wan will look closer to his ANH self, ultimately tying in those details properly into the OT.

Honestly this sounds like it would have expanded the star wars universe in a way that wasn't really touched on in TCW. Giving the clones a little more independence during the battle of Jabiim,hell putting Kota in a role similar to Pong Krell and having to be forced to command clones alongside his militia after all thats left is the padawan squad. He wouldn't defect or cause friendly fire incidents,but his attitude towards clones would cause casualties so astronomically high (frontal attacks against entrenched positions with no artillery,afterall he has to save that for his milita) a different ARC trooper (maybe Fordo?) would take a squad of disgruntled troopers and attempt to execute him before his second in command convinces the angry clone to stand down(A-17 would have gunned down a Jedi without hesitation if they where in the way,Fordo in the early war would likely be the same)and the work to evacuate the survivors. It would also make Kota's hatred a two way street,as rumors would spread to other clone units. Meanwhile a book set after the battle thats from Kota's perspective showing that he's been made a pariah to the rest of the republic military. His militia would find itself without orbital gunfire support,resupply would be sparse at the best of times which would set him up for having to acquire equipment outside of the normal GAR supply structure,setting his militia up for Force Unleashed.

One thing I didn't like about TCW was how the regular clones were treated like the Star Trek red shirts in certain situations. For example, the episodes that took place on Maridun all the clones died except for Bly and Rex. The R2 rescue arc was another, the only clones to survive was Rex and a clone with blue marking. If you were a regular clone in TCW, you were going to die. Edit: A cool addition to the writers board is the MedStar author J. Michael Reaves, who has had a long career as a screenwriter for such shows like the Batman the animated series, Batman Beyond, the first Transformers cartoon as well as the Droid and Ewoks cartoons. Only as an adviser though because in 2008 he was writing the Coruscant Nights trilogy.

I really wished that actual TCW included Captain Fordo as the Master Chief type ARC Trooper he was - being a leader of few words and using a multitude of hand signals - with him, Alpha 17 and Rex (who would be an ARC Trooper from the beginning in this idea) being led by PADAWAN Anakin in the first few seasons as an elite team - possibly the Muunilinst 10 from the original Clone Wars - in Obi Wan's Legion/212th assigned specifically to Anakin by Palpatine. Also 19:13 has the additional point of all the clones having the face of someone who was beating the shit out of him the last time they saw each other.

Personally, if I was going into an oversaturated area of the timeline and wanted to maintain continuity while still being fresh and new, I would tell a clone wars story from the perspective of the CIS. It would go into ordinary civilian life within the separatist controlled territory (similar to that one episode of TCW), as well as demonstrating battles with the Republic's forces. Perhaps it could focus on recruited soldiers fighting alongside the droids, with some of these soldiers feeling uncomfortable with their fully automated comrades (droids would be more ruthless and more reckless since they feel no emotion). It could still feature known battles during the clone wars (preferably the ones that featured living soldiers as well as droids), with various Jedi and clones acting as antagonists. Of course, there would be episodes from the perspective of characters like Dooku, Grievous and Ventress, though I feel new characters would be necessary. I like your idea of multiple main characters with their own stories, so perhaps one protagonist could be a CIS soldier who joined the militia of his or her home planet in order to fight off the Republic (maybe this character lived on a backwater planet that was suffering economically thanks to being forgotten). Another could be one of the Dark Acolytes, I'm thinking a former Padawan of a Jedi Knight, with said knight acting as a major antagonist of the series. Another character could be a general who is very fond of the droid army, preferring them over soldiers because they follow orders without question. Perhaps at one point he or she is placed in command over living soldiers, resulting in tension when they are ordered to do a suicidal attack that the droids would've done without question (similar to Pong Krell in TCW). I would call it "Star Wars: Heroes on Both Sides", as a reference to the opening crawl of Episode 3.

I literally just had this idea today, and even thought of the same name, it's crazy. I think a very good way to start the series is to begin at the Battle of Jabiim, it sets the stage for a much darker show and shows the CIS in a more nuanced light. Then we can follow a group of organic(for lack of a better term) Separatist soldiers throughout most of the series, only having them occasionally interact with famous people like Anakin Skywalker or Obi-Wan Kenobi. War crimes and atrocities should still be shown on BOTH sides, as the CIS did just as much as the Republic, if not more, but it is still paramount to show that most of the Separatists are people who geniunely believe in fighting the tyranny of the Republic. Maybe we can even show a growing rift between the Corporate factions of the CIS and the member worlds, manifesting in power struggles between the Separatist Council and Senate, there's so much untapped potential.

@@KaiHung-wv3ul who'd have thought that one line from the opening crawl could show so much potential? "There are heroes on both sides. Evil is everywhere." Show through the war how he became dissilussioned with the Republic and the Jedi ways, how the Dark Side seemed more and more seductive and how he started craving more power, not just to save his loved ones but for himself too. Show Palpatine's manipulation of him, orchestrating events, missions and even tailored confrontations with his Dark Acolytes to turn Anakin.

I agree with you on the voices. I disagree with you on changing the name, since originally and in this hypothetical scenario, it's supposed to be a continuation of Clone Wars 2003. Story-wise I'd say that General Kota stories would give you the most diverse points of view. His is a jedi's point of view (albeit non-traditional). His militia as the soldier's points of view (they can be grunts or commandos and circumvent the problem of clone individualism you mentioned). Kota could work with non-military personnel allowing him to operate outside of his jurisdiction, giving us the smugglers and bounty hunters points of view. I'd only keep Ahsoka around as the padawan of Plo Koon, and have Plo be the traditional-point-of-view jedi protagonist in the B plot. I'd adapt Anakin and Obi-wan's previous stories into the show as the c plot. D plot being divided among the jedi that time forgot, like Jax Pavan and the wolfman/others from Clone Wars 2003 shown in this video.

The fact they had Anakin and Obi-Wan each face Asajj Ventress in the TCW movie and season one without introductions heavily implied that at the very least the original clone wars cartoon was still part of that “canon”. At the very least Clone Wars Seasons 1, 2 and chapter 21 of season 3 all take place at the beginning of the war, with TCW movie and seasons taking place after and for much of the war. The series ends as already established in chapters 22 to 25 of the original clone wars cartoon. That’s how I make TCW seasons 1 to 5 fit in with the original clone wars series in my head canon anyway. It’s damn refreshing to see Star Wars KZbinrs like yourself still keeping the original clone wars events and timelines alive. Thank you 👍🏻

I wouldn’t put it past Disney and Filoni to have contemplated remaking the prequels and originals in their iconic soulless, stunted, mediocre way. You just KNOW they’d make Luke a secondary character while the main character is Ahsoka or some other diversity quota character.
@inventorking91245 жыл бұрын
I came up with a retconned timeline: The Clone Wars Movie and show start seven MONTHS after Geonosis, with minor retconning this allows enough time for most of the pre-Anakin knighting storylines, such as Jabiiim, Alpha’s training program, the spread of individuality in the clone ranks, to take place. In fact, the 2003 micro series even had Anakin’s promotion take place right after Grievous was revealed, since they needed more knights for the war effort, so the original CW itself messed up the timeline by saying he was a padawan for most of the war. If something only contradicts TCW because it happened after the fact, it could simply be moved so it happened earlier, (Ex. Yoda: Dark Rendezvous could take place before Ventress was betrayed, it did even set up the possibility of Dooku eliminating her.) When addressing the arguably biggest continuity error, Mandalore was already explained. The idea is that Mandalore is divided into New Mando territory (ravaged deserts) and the disorganized clans (everywhere else). Since the New Mandos were a far more organized and apparently more technologically proficient society, the Senate recognized them as Mandalore’s leaders. When Satine died, the subsequent civil war allowed the True Mandalorians to resurface. I personally enjoyed Anakin’s portrayal in TCW, he was far less annoying, still had his dark moments, cared deeply about his friends, appeared to be far less easily manipulated, was still reckless, vocally sounded more like a younger Darth Vader, and still grew to distrust the council. Giving him a padawan before he was really ready suggests that the council was desperate, hoped responsibility would humble him and justify his premature promotion, ultimately placing too much faith in their chosen one, which was already the cause of their undoing anyway. Ahsoka’s trail and subsequent abandonment of the order does add depth to Anakin’s schism with the council. I also really liked the TCW portrayal of the clones, since Baker, likely because of his voice acting background, was able to create greater variation within his portrayal of the troopers. I’m not saying Morrison wouldn’t have done a good job, but I think that Baker did a better job conveying the youth of these troopers, since even the oldest of them are only 26/13 by the end of the war. I do agree that the accent he used was a little stupid, though, but I think that, like Ahsoka’s portrayal, his portrayal and acting got better as time progressed and he eased into the role. However, that being said, let’s face it, most people don’t even know about the Expanded Universe, and constantly trying to adhere to it would mean TCW would have been far more constricted in its storylines. This show was made for an audience that had only seen the movies, and, from what I know about Dave Filoni, I think that he was just trying to tell a good story. Was TCW perfect? Absolutely not. But was it good? That depends on your point of view. I say yes, particularly in its later episodes. Again, though, that is just my opinion, my point of view. You are entitled to disagree. Please do so respectfully, though. If you simply wish to troll/insult me, I will simply report your comment, dismissing it as the spam it is.

Inventor King but do the viewers have to know about thr EU? Because really, they don’t. We didn’t know what Sand people were, or how beautiful Alderaan was when we watched Episode 4. Still everyone loved and enjoyed the movie. The trick is to let the references go smoothly, so that everyone can understand and is intrigued to find out more. This opens the rabbit hole tht is Star Wars expanded universe.
@inventorking91245 жыл бұрын
@@violentscorl697 No one HAS to know about the EU, I agree with you there. I was just pointing out ways in which it could be S-canoned into the EU. Dave admitted that he knew that TCW caused problems in the EU's continuity, but felt that this didn't invalidate them in any way. He just viewed them as another way of looking at Star Wars. That's how I view Legends: It's still as validly Star Wars as anything Disney makes, it's (usually) true to the spirit of Star Wars. Personally, though, I think that the biggest problem with the prequels (CGI, crappy dialogue, and a lack of classic star wars banter aside) was that there was too much story to really fit into three movies. I personally think that the prequels would have been better as a TV show, where we could explore all the political intrigue in greater detail and see Anakin mature and better develop his relationship with Obi-Wan beyond what you see in the movies. I love how George worked with EU writers and incorporated a lot of EU material into the story. But, to get the full emotional impact, you have to see it all in order to care as deeply about Anakin and his and Obi-Wan's friendship. The problem with the prequels, as CinemaSins (I don't really like them, but they were spot on with this criticism): is that they contain innumerable references to storylines that sound awesome and were explored in the EU, yet it was merely referenced as backstory. Anakin and Obi-Wan were brothers? Aside from the intro in Ep 3, we don't see any of that. Anakin is a gifted warrior and capable commander? Watch TCW to understand. The Prequels just don't work the way George intended without the EU or TCW. I know that I'm unlikely to find fans of the new canon here, but I also enjoy the new movies (Force Awakens and Last Jedi are my favorite films in the Disney era), mainly because they recapture the aesthetic of the originals, especially in the former's increased use of practical effects, hero's journey plot, and classic banter. You really don't need to explore anything else to understand those.
@violentscorl6975 жыл бұрын
Inventor King I agree with everything, except for the words about the disney episodes (but let’s not delve into that here, as that’s not the topic). Star Wars is just too great for it to be sufficiently captured in three movies, though I believe the Prequels aren’t as bad as people make them out to be. And since they spawned a large part of the EU and incorporated the brilliant Ewan McGregor, I’m totally fine with them.
@inventorking91245 жыл бұрын
@@violentscorl697 Again, I think the prequels had a really good premise, and interesting characters (Jar Jar aside), and good actors, but they're the best example of "Star Wars is too big to fit into three movies." There's just too much story there to fit into a movie trilogy.
@inventorking91245 жыл бұрын
@@violentscorl697 Good point. I think that the prequels would have worked better as a TV show, since everything that is merely mentioned in exposition could have been explored in detail for mainstream audiences, rather than just fans that read the EU. I thought that Darth Plagueis, Yoda: Dark Rondevous, Republic Commando, Battlefront 2, the first two KOTOR games, and 2003 Clone Wars were great, but most people won't take the time to read about them. As for the sequels, I don't want to argue about them at all. If you don't like them, go ahead, feel free.
