How I Would Make Spyro 4 - All Fired Up (Spyro 2021/2022)

Happy Spyro Community Day everyone!
This time last year I released a video talking about how I would make a fourth Crash Bandicoot game, which I called Crash Bandicoot: The End of Time. The final game, Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time had some very minor similarities to my concept, and as my concept was well received by my fledgling audience at the time of the publishing of that video.
A year on, with all the talk about a follow-up to the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, I decided to turn my hand to making a new concept, which I have called Spyro 4: All Fired Up, and I am releasing just in time for Spyro Community Day!

Fun fact Evil Cynder from The Legend of Spyro a new Beginning is actually a creature known as a Adalisk named Zirra who is the last of her kind and is Evil Cynder's true form and is the reason how Cynder got the Fear poison and wind breath because the Shadow element is definitely Cynder's but the Fear poison and wind breath actually come from Zirra herself. Ps Cynder is not purple she is a black dragoness and Zirra the Adalisk belongs to Seeraphine on devainart and Zirra's species known as Adalisk are from The events after The Legend of Spyro Trilogy but are extinct except Zirra who's soul is in Cynder's body.

I’ve always thought that Spyro 4 would have been a perfect opportunity for answering the question, “Where are the female dragons?” from Spyro 1. We see some female baby dragons but we never see the any adult dragons. Maybe that’s whom Spyro can rescue when freeing dragons!

I mean female dragons certainly were in mind when I made this video. Not all the dragons would be male after all. We did see some female adult dragons in the later classic Spyro games. Particularly A Hero's Tail and Shadow Legacy.

Fun Fact: most people consider The Sorcerer from Shadow Legacy to be the "classic" version of Malefor, since both are evil purple dragons that use dark magic, and the Sorcerer's final form bearing some similarities of Malefor.

Actually yes this is a good idea. Although I would make the final boss fight a combined effort between Cynder and Spyro. Making the game more about accepting each other and their methods. Make it more a journey about two dragons with different views accepting the value of one other. I would make Cynder more vicious and serious whil Spyro is more lax and forgiving. Spyro will learn that sometimes you need to do things you don't like while Cynder learns that not all is black and white. I would make the game more character growth for all the cast. Though not heavy story driven but a good way to reflect that things are chancing. Also I would choice Malevort as the mysterious dragon. Though not through the Crystal ball but rather while Nasty Gnorr and Ripto are arguing a shadow looms over them. They look over and their faces go in total terror as you zoom to one of their eyes you see in the Reflection Malevort. And then the screen goes to black which zooms out and you see a crystal ball you see Mysterious white claw taps it and an elderly voice says. "Oh dear..... what have they done." Thinking ahead going from joke villains to a serious one would hype the fans up. It would also a good transaction from the character growth of our protagonists from this game to be able to confront this new threat.

Great video! If the actual Spyro 4 were to be something along these lines, I'd be pretty happy with that. A balanced mix of the first three games' strongest mechanics, while also offering just enough to stand on its own two feet. The repurposing of post-Spyro 3 concepts is also appreciated: I'm one of the many who have always wanted to see a Gnasty/Ripto team-up, and the unexpected use of Grendor is actually pretty clever. I don't suppose we could have reimagined takes on EtD level concepts, like Jurassic Jungle and Thieves' Den? :P As a side-note, I remember checking out your Crash 4 concept around the time that was new. I don't think I commented on it at the time, but I liked that one too!

Yeah I didn't really go into any level concepts when writing this video, but I'd definitely like to see Jurassic Jungle, and Thieves Den repurposed, and perhaps even expanded upon a little bit. And thank you for your kind words about my Crash 4 concept! At some point this year, I plan on making another concept video for Crash 5, based off where It's About Time ended, so definitely stick around for that one!

Here's my idea for Spyro 4: -Story: Long ago there used to be many varieties of Dragons with unique breathe types, but they were hunted to extinction for their wings. These dragon slayers were too powerful to be defeated, so the Dragon Elders banished them in a portal of time, sending them 1000 years into the future to be defeated at a later date. 1000 years later, the Dragon Slayers have returned from their banishment. Spyro must explore the Dragon Realms and recover the fossils of extinct dragon to learn the lost elemental breathes and banish the Dragon Slayers again. -in addition to collecting dragons, Spyro would also collect dragon fossils, similar to the bone collecting mission from Skelos Badlands in Spyro 2. Each world has a bone, and the fossils are reassembled in the homeworld. The Professor and/or Bianca resurrect the fossils, revealing an extinct species of Dragon, who teach Spyro a lost dragon breathe. There are 5 breathe types: - Fire Breathe: starting default breathe, obvious - Wind Breathe: Allows you to push and pull obstacles and enemies - Electric Breathe: Allows you to power machinery and electrocute water - Ice Breathe: Allows you to freeze water to create platforms and enemies. - Time Breathe: allows Spyro to slow down and reverse time like in Prince of Persia. I love nearly the entirety of this. My only exception is that Cynder has been known to have her own sets of breath, and that aspect I feel shouldn't change, though likely coloring her darker magics to be the same colors as Spyro's, just with different side effects to keep differences between them. Other than that though, I absolutely loved everything else you have in mind here. Amazingly well done.:D

This is a pretty solid idea! Genuinely sounds like it would be amazing fun! I always had a bit of a heavy story idea for a 4th Spyro game partially inspired by something like spider-man no way home where it's a crossover of original Spyro, legends Spyro and Skylanders Spyro against Malefor and it would be the game to confirm the purple dragon rebirth theory and the fact the end of the legends games hint towards the Skylanders games. Probably a bit too lore heavy for a Spyro game but I still think it could be really fun and really celebrate the series

I even feel excited about just the imagination of playing such a Spyro game. If Spyro 4 ever happens, I hope the long wait was worth it, becoming an "ultimate" sequal to the Trilogy very much like Crash 4 (except with less tedious difficulty, but still way more to deliver than the originals).

The original Spyro trilogy didn't recycle old antagonists, and I think it was better for it. Spyro doesn't have an arch enemy like Crash (Cortex). Spyro finds himself in tough situations due to invading forces and fights his way out of them. I think changing that formula by bringing back defeated antagonists would not only feel lazy, but cheapen the effect of having defeated them in past games. Bring on a new villian, bring on a new collectable(s), and bring on new playable characters, abilities, and power-ups. My one biggest change would be to make the hub worlds connected in one huge open world area filled with collectibles, activities, characters, portals, and gems and divided by collectible locks (similar to the trilogy) rather than separate areas all together.

Not sure why you made Elora have Sheila's playstyle, you might as well have Sheila again. Elora has abilities that make her unique and would give her a good playstyle, she's a Beastmaster since she tamed Pterodactyls in Skelos Badlands and her being a Faun would easily allow for her to learn nature magic. Give her a wooden staff for melee against small creatures and they can make her a homage to Insomniac's Girl with a Stick game concept. Her gameplay would be using animals and nature magic to help navigate levels, some encounters having her using nature magic to get around dangerous areas and summoning animals to break down barricades and attack otherwise invincible enemies. What would inspire her to get this skilled? Spyro of course. She wants to be with him and not be a burden, so she trains and learns new abilities so that the next time Spyro goes on an adventure she can go along.

Ever since last night, I couldn't help thinking more and more on this concept and how I'd alter it. Love the foundations of it, but thought of some additional ways that I'd have it. First off, I'd have it so that it'd start showing Ripto surviving the lava, and overhearing about Spyro having saved three realms. He manages to find Gnasty to talk about allegiances, complaining about how he failed to find the Sorceress, commenting that he guesses she wasn't lava resistant like himself. As they start trying to discuss how they could get an army without a significant show of power, another villain appears... Red. He offers gifts to the two, as well as an offer for intel to regain their armies. They ask why he's helping them, and he says that though it's true he has no personal vendetta against this 'Spyro', he does have reason to desire vengeance against the dragons in general, and that is all they need to know about him. The two reluctantly agree, and ask what he had in mind for regaining their armies. Red suggests that since Ripto's banishment, another took over rulership of the Rhynocs known as Grendor. Though he's become powerful by a recent magical mishap, he still doesn't compare to Ripto, so Red suggests to Ripto to get Grendor to be his new minion, while Gnasty finds and convinces Crush and Gulp to return. With all those forces, it should be a simple matter to gather up the scattered gnorcs, providing them with a powerful mixed army of rhynocs and gnorcs. Then, to attack, they could take a page out of the deceased Sorceress's book along with Gnasty's. Soon, the villains use a ritual to combine their magics to empower Gnasty's crystalization spell, and use it as a distraction while their forces steal the dragon eggs to use as a new power source for their forces, with each boss having at least one or more while each territory they claim has gained dragon eggs to start empowering their forces, leading quick conquerring over the lands, starting with Ripto's homeland, leading a good bit into what you have here. Though, it'd later be revealed that Red was freed by the shadow dragon, and said shadow dragon is working towards a plan that supports freeing and preparing plans set about by his master, as set-up for a sequel. Then, there's how to alter some things towards gameplay. First, a new scene when they encounter the first elemental crystal statue. When Spyro is told how to break them, he offhandedly comments that he guesses he can't just charge towards them to get them out any more. Bianca points out that my not necessarily be true, stating that she's heard of dragons being capable of channelling their powers through their bodies, and perhaps Spyro can channel his flame through his body as well, basically allowing for an upgrade to his charge upon learning of the first flame crystal dragon. This also leads to him and Cynder enhancing both their breath and their charge attacks. For Cynder, mostly the game, but she won't have the same powers as Spyro, though her powers will be similarly colored, with her starting breath actually being her fear/sound breath, since it's the same color as his flame breath. For Crush, he's now wielding not only wind, but also geysers, allowing him to attack from both air and ground alike. This would lead to Spyro learning not wind, but water/geyser/foam based powers for the white element, with Cynder gaining wind instead, since she's known for it. Then, for Gulp... well, Cynder is known for having black lightning, but that wouldn't fit the yellow themed crystal dragons. So, perhaps it could be converted, so that Spyro has purer bright electric breath that's more fitting for tech, while Cynder gets a more hazy mustard like yellow lightning that could either be considered as storm breath or even quintessence(fancy name for lifeforce), with Gulp using not only tech electricity but also magic electricity via his horns and mouth. For Grendor, Spyro would gain ice, and Cynder would gain blue colored ghosts powers. For Red, he'd use a combination of corrupted green breath/magic along with furnace like steampunk tech, allowing a power for new dark green crystal dragons. For Spyro, he'd gain his quake/earth powers, and Cynder would gain her venom powers. Then, for Gnasty, Spyro would gain his aether powers, while Cynder would gain a fusion of her dark flames and shadow powers, the dark flames being like a black smoke breath that's internally heated with purple energies. Ripto would be the final boss again, but post game, a redeemed Red would reveal to Spyro and Cynder that it's not as over yet as they think. He wasn't the one that came up with the plan for a conjunction of villains, though he does not know the full plan of who released him or what his purpose for doing all this was. Elsewhere, the Shadow Dragon chuckles, saying it's all going according to plan. Only a few more regions of the world to reconnect and stabilize, and then, the true disaster shall awaken, with hints towards him being a mere servant to a stronger dragon, a.k.a. Malefor. What do you think of these alterations to the game idea?^^

It would be pretty cool if they have some levels that are themed after the non canon Spyro games. Like that cloud city level from a hero’s tail, the theif level from enter the dragonfly, the pirate level from eternal night. It would be a nice nod to those games if they have levels themed after them, while also sticking with the same level design and platform if of the classic games

I'd make it a Sonic the hedgehog meets final fantasy kind of game. The main players would be Spyro, Cynder, Hunter, Elora, Bianca, Blink, Agent 9, Bentley, Sgt Byrd, Sheila, Flame, and Ember. Rock music would play in the background. And the gang would collect 12 gemstones that are differently shaped. One gemstone for each player. Bentley and Sheila fall in love with each other. A villainous dragon named Nero will be a main villain who redeems himself and dies to save Spyro and his friends.

I agree with your ideas for Spyro 4 except for back tacking for the elemental dragon crystals unless it's just one dragon in the last portal of the home world before going up a boss fight and I would like to see the original gem counter from Spyro the dragon along with the original animation for the crystal dragon counter and would love to see old returns of ways of collecting gems like the gold gem box were you charge or flame and the jump over to collect the gem and all the others from Spyro the dragon up till Spyro year of the dragon with some new ways of collecting gems for Spyro 4, also I would like to see Spyro a little bigger just to show that he has aged some and find a part threw out the game of Spyro and synder becoming more friendly towards each other and starting a relationship and maybe seeing hunter and bianca getting engaged. There is a lot more I would like to input on ideas for Spyro 4 but at this time I would not like to comment a book full of ideas so hopefully my feedback is good enough to put my thoughts out and received feedback from anyone who reads this, thank you so much for your video and I hope when Spyro 4 comes out it's everything we the Spyro fans want and more and also have a lot more cut sense and story telling along with more scripts for the elder dragons to say besides thank you for releasing me and have their own personality and also have more female adult dragons in the game so that their can be more verity and explain in a fun way on how dragon eggs come to and make sure to have the dragon eggs hatch a little bit more exciting and giving baby dragon unique looks and designs.

Not bad, not bad at all. If this were actually Spyro 4, I’d be very satisfied. I LOVE the nods to all of the past games I played growing up, I also like the addition of a female dragon character, I adore Spyro sooo much, but being a female myself I found myself thinking ‘wouldn’t it be neat if Spyro was a girl.’, quite a bit…and Cynder is quite badass (I never much liked Ember the Dragon…she was just a ripoff of Sonic’s Amy Rose! Besides, just because she’s female doesn’t mean she needs to be pink and fawn over Spyro. His relationship with Cynder in the ‘Legend’ Trilogy made way more sense and felt more real.)

Love the concept, especially the different flame types and bringing back Ripto and Gnasty Gnorc. I get why you're bringing back the 7-Eleven henchmen (Crush and Gulp) due to Ripto, but I'd like to see a new henchman/character. I'm trying to remember whether we learn much about Spyro's family over the course of this franchise, so I'd say maybe one of Spyro's siblings that turns on Spyro. Also, I think if you include dragon eggs or another collectable, I would want a storyline developed for it, not just a cool item to collect. Dragon Eggs were essential to the YOTD storyline, and I like the mini-game concept, but I'd think about what collectable would make the story more powerful. Thanks for developing this concept for Spyro 4---hoping Activision puts something excellent together soon.

What I think would be cool, is a story where Spyro and Cynder open up portals to various other franchises that have dragon characters and they soon learn that the two main dragons in that franchise are actually different versions of themselves.

The dark clawed purple dragon could be a time travelling older version of Spyro corrupted by the shadow magic from this game maybe. 3. 1. Split screen wasn't really in mind. Believe it or not, it was attempted once before in The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon, to varying degrees of success depending on who you ask. 2. Entirely plausible. Though the two silhouettes were actually two other purple dragons who were also evil. One from Shadow Legacy on the DS, and the other from the Legend of Spyro Trilogy. 3. Knowing my luck, I probably won't be this time! 🤣

I would like more emphasis on challenging platforming, like in the first game when you had to glide around mountains and use the supercharge to reach islands. I think it was lost in the other games

Thank you! Admittedly Grendor is probably one of the weaker aspects of the concept, but he's the only villain from the Spyro GBA games who was never really given much to do, so I felt maybe I could reboot him and try a different spin, making him the new Rhynoc Commander as The Sorceress would be presumed dead.

I enjoyed the majority of the story, but I wish they add rpg element to the game and introduce new characters, whether allies or enemies, who we hadn't seen in previous games. Furthermore, I am certain that dark Spyro will appear in the game and play an important role in Spyro 4. Dark Spyro. was in Skylanders, Spyro's Legend: Dawn of the Dragon, ctrnf, and Crash on the Run.

The elements I want to be included in a new Spyro are absolutely the different breaths, playing as side characters like Hunter and Bianca and Elora, more complex jumping, charging, headbash, and flying abilities, and a new villain system - and potentially an invasion by dragons from other planets or worlds that are trying to overtake the dragon world, and the challenge is to free the dragons from prisons that are enchanted or protected by mini bosses.

Time bring my back my own Spyro 4 concept. Return of the Dragon! Their will be a new villain, or villains working to together. Gnasty Gnorc, Ripto, Loki, and Ambrosia. Cynder and Ignitus will also debut into the Reignited series starting with Spyro 4. And SPOILERS! In the ending scene, Gnasty Gnorc & Ripto end up in the Shadow Realm, where they meet a dark cloaked figure who gazes upon their cowardice with glaring red eyes. Thus setting up the sequel of Spyro 5 and the debut of Malefor the Vile. And kudos to you, you gave me a boost of inspiration.

Can't believe I'm just now seeing this video. Loving most of the ideas so far, including expanding on the crystal dragons. One point I disagree on is bringing the old epilogues back, though. I feel that they were one of the (very few) missteps by Insomniac. One of the things I liked about Spyro was that - while often comedic - it never went full saturday morning cartoon. Like DBZ, villains actually died. Children's entertainment back then but especially now is very sterile and infantilized. If this route gets taken, how long before Toasty, Crush and Gulp come back? I'd be okay with it once (Ripto, maybe) but anymore than that and it cheapens everything that came before and erases any and all stakes. I love Crash as well, but please leave the Looney Tunes stuff there.

This has a few great ideas to dwell on but it also comes across as fanfiction. It only features pre-established characters and various mechanics from other games in the series, it almost entirely lacks story originality and feels like a remix of old ideas and concepts. As much as Ripto + Gnasty Gnorc teaming up would be cool, it also feels redundant. No, the new major villain HAS to be original for so many reasons. You could make the new villain have resurrection powers or time related abilities in order to justify bringing back those two for the relationship and dialogue dynamic but honestly the timing isn't right. Crash 4 was...about time and I fear bringing back old villains for whatever reason would both cheapen what came before and come across as lazy and uninspiring to fans, unless it was done in such a way that was beyond perfect. Maybe it could work for Spyro 5 if they went right into production after releasing Spyro 4, but yeah... As for Dragon Statue + Eggs...that doesn't even make sense. In 3 the eggs got stolen, you really want 4 to also feature eggs again? Seems kind of boring for the exact same premise, not even sure how you'd explain that dragon incompetence plot-wise, unless these dragon eggs aren't from spyro's world. Dragon Statues seem to require Gnasty Gnorc's specific imbued hammer magic, without him maybe you could still have someone do it but wouldn't that lessen his uniqueness? You can still have something like elemental statues, they just don't have to specifically be statues or be dragons. I dunno, maybe you could make a case for all-female dragon tribe in the new region who needs their eggs saved as a minor inconvenience loosely related to opportunistic egg thieves while the new villain was sowing chaos. The only returning cast I wanna see off the top of my head is Spyro, Bianca, Elora, Hunter and Moneybags. That's it. Everyone else like the playable characters from 3 can die in a fire. The Professor from 2 can stay in Avalon, no reason to include him but if so with minor appearances, honestly best just to have Elora mention him in passing. We should be introduced to new original characters to learn about. I don't wanna be overly critical but I think you were too focused on starting with the premise of the story and letting that dictate everything else. Instead, you should've honed in on the mechanics you liked and disliked throughout the trilogy, before applying creativity to expanding upon or removing those mechanics. Then taking a step back and asking yourself what feels missing and/or taking inspiration not just from the rest of the spyro franchise but from other games, especially games that focus on tone, atmosphere or level design.
