Can medical school insiders start lobbying to having congress fund more residency spots?

I wish they would

I entered medical school, Manchester in England, in 1974 so that is now 50 years ago! Policies on admission may well have changed since then. I was given a high offer for my A-Levels (exams done around the age of 18 before leaving school). I succeeded in getting in. There was no interview at all. Just academic results in science, that was it. I think that there should be an effort to decide whether a person is suited to a medical career, even if that decision is difficult.

I think it’s incorrect to say affirmative action is directly why Asian American students have a harder time getting into medical school. Caucasian students get into medical school with significantly lower scores than Asian Americans, so I don’t think it’s fair to say that the low percentage of affirmative action students are making it directly more challenging because you’re assuming those spots would go to Asian Americans. Why not blame the legacy spots? Or students who had personal phone calls made from their physician parents? I think that direct link you’re making isn’t completely correct

Without affirmative action Asians wouldn’t need higher numbers. Legacy spots, nepotism do not explain the large population effects
