I’m reading my advanced copy, Tim, and so enjoying it-both the story itself as well as the novel being a “proof of concept” of the Story Grid writing principles you’re teaching us. Bravo. Well done. I’m still savoring the read. I’ve been reading each chapter, highlighting the Story Grid commandments. I’ve also made a playlist of the chapter heading songs on my Spotify-what fun. Re: the Spotify playlist I mentioned… I made it for myself, but maybe you’re planning on creating your own playlist. Either way, I have some questions on which/who’s version of a song you had in mind when writing each chapter. For some songs there was a clear guess that seemed right. For others a few candidates to choose from. But there’s a song, named Carousel, that I have no clear idea who’s version you mean… so I picked the one that spoke to me. Are you going to create your own Spotify playlist as part of your launch?

Thanks for sharing. Therapy has changed my life as well, so I can totally relate. I had to laugh when you mentioned how Shaun(sp) always ripped your work apart. As a debut author, I'd kill for someone to rip my work apart. I can't seem to get anyone to give me honest feedback, so that I know where to improve. I've resolved that I'll save up my pennies, and invest in an editor for my next novel. I don't know how authors can afford editors, they're so expensive, but the feedback would be invaluable. I haven't read your book, but from the description you gave, "Reading it will change your life for the better," I wonder if "Self Help" should be the category?

Thanks Tim. Got a copy and will read and review. Two questions if you don't mind: Does the Story Grid book do an indepth study of building scenes, and scene to scene transitions? And, are you writing another book? Thanks. Appreciate your honesty. I had similar experience growing up - reading SF or fantasy was frowned upon by my father who was suspicious of anything that was not labeled religious. Decades later now and realise noone can quench what rises up from our true and unique self.

Very courageous of you to be so forthcoming and vulnerable here with your story. It sounds like every page manifested in your book was hard earned. I’ll admit I’m surprised your book transcends or defies a global genre classification given the “tenets” of Story Grid…but if Mr. Coyne signed off on it, then what else is there to say except - maybe he’ll create another genre in your honor! 🤔😃. Hoping much success for you and this book which sounds like it was a real labor of the soul. This is a long way from the prior trials of your iterations of Eyewitness. I guess it was all worth it! 🎉🎉

So this may not have been clear. In Story Grid terms, I wrote a Performance External, Worldview Internal story. However, the SG writing genres are completely different to the random 100s of "marketing" genres. Those are the ones I was having trouble putting my book into. - Tim

@@StoryGrid Ahhh - yes. Makes perfect sense! Totally understand marketing genres do not 100% align with Story Grid. You were clear enough, I just didn’t connect that marketing dot to what you said about the genre of your story. Thank you for the clarification because it was like “a splinter in my mind”. 😂. I'm not (normally) a prude at all, but I wouldn't use that title. I would choose a title that suggests that someone would probably ENJOY the novel, rather than run from it. I've occasionally (very occasionally) used the "s" word in my own fiction, but I wouldn't put it in a title like that.... unless it is a NON fiction book with a title like, "Clean your place quickly... No more SH*T MESSES!"

_The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck_ sold roughly a bajillion copies so I'm not too concerned about it turning off readers. I'm way more concerned with having a title that is so generic that no one could remember it. - Tim

@@StoryGridthe title is perfect. It's the loudest voice that torments him the whole journey. This isn't a story about Eric. It's about The Shithead, and how he becomes Eric.
