Thank you for the insight what an awesome track, you've definitely got me thinking about picking up a cello even tho I have ZERO experience haha

Do it! My cello playing is awful but it gives your track character which is hugely important!

I've checked most of your tutos today and of course your tracks. You are very creative while sticking to most of the rules of a trailer track. Keep up the good work.

@@richardpryn You've inspired me to get my own cello to abuse! Any gotchas I should be looking out for? I noticed a lot of the cheaper options are labelled as 'student cellos', whatever that means.

@@davidmcpoland5286 I bought the cheapest on I could find XD - it was a brand new one from Gear4Music haha probably could have got a cheaper second hand one. Make sure it is full size though!

Excellent stuff as always, I think it would be interesting to hear the final full mix of some of these tracks when you do the breakdown, having watched the video on the course about mixing, it would be good to hear more before and after mixes
@richardpryn2 жыл бұрын
Hey Jed - You can hear the final mix here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6OroINjr72DpKc The reason I often show my workings before the mix and master, as well as the fact that Toby Mason does them, I want to show that it can be messy, untidy and be peaking like hell and none of that detracts from the fact it is "good" writing :)

Such a great, inspiring track! Really loving how simple but effect string writing can be to sell a mood and vibe. What kind of cello do you play? I know there's some affordable ones you can get online, which brand is yours?

Thanks, Daniel - it was the cheapest one I could find on Gear4Music 🤣

Hey Richard, do you have any videos showing what you do for mastering trailer tracks? I notice the Logic master track going into the red. Is that a problem when you submit these tracks (I would guess not. LOL).
@richardpryn Жыл бұрын
Hey dude - my tracks are mastered by Toby Mason (legend). He produced a masterclass on how he does it for my Trailer Music Course. When I write, I tend to ignore levels until I start balancing the mix. Generally it is a no-no to send clipped tracks 🤣that being said I have had a demo that was clipping land a placement!

Hi Rich. I great insightful video as ever thank you. Can I ask how long this took you from sketch to finished product please? I’m curious as sometimes I’m spending hours on projects and not really getting far. Many thanks. Dom
@richardpryn Жыл бұрын
Thanks Dom- I can’t remember exactly as I had a few rounds of feedback from the publisher, these tracks are usually about an hour for the sketch and then a few more hours to refine

Great cello line! Just a question please, Toby Mason is your colleague who mixed the trailer and then you sent it mixed to the trailer company? Or did they mix it after receiving the multi track? Thanks!
@richardpryn4 ай бұрын
Thank you very much 🥰 once the track was approved by the publisher (Elephant music) we sent the files to Toby to mix and master. Elephant music then pitched the track for trailers 👍🏻

You said in a previous video that you're just using cheap mics to record. What about your instruments? Are they also cheap? Been thinking of getting into this kind of sound design and was thinking picking up one of those £250 Celli from gear4music. Just wondering what kind of level of quality are the instruments you're recording with?
@richardpryn Жыл бұрын
Superb question, and yes they are almost all cheap, the cheapest I can find typically (except my guitars) and that was the cello I still have to this day -gear4music4thewin!

Why is it clipping as hell ?
@RickyMackie2 жыл бұрын
At the creative stage I wouldn't worry about clipping, unless it sounds awful. Worrying about small mix related things like clipping will just distract you from the creative process. 🙂
