The story of iblis is basically that he was a jinn on earth who worshipped the Lord for an unimaginable amount of time. He continued worshipping him so intensely that eventually he became the most pious and righteous of the jinn, so Allah elevated his status over time more and more until he reached the heavens where the angels were and then eventually reached the paradise where he continued worshipping the Lord. Essentially he became the best worshipper of God there was. The idea of his legacy is that eventually he let his position and legacy drive him to the sin of arrogance when Allah created Adam peace be upon him and tested iblis by commanding him to bow. Iblis refusing to do this demonstrated something that's a lesson for all mankind and jinn and that is his arrogance. He let his pride lead him to disobey his Creator who he worshipped in the first place, because he thought he knew better and he thought that he was better than Adam peace be upon him because he was made of fire and Adam from earth. This is one of the most pivotal lessons in Islam when pondered upon because it teaches us what true submission to God is. Sometimes something might not make sense to someone's reasoning but they will obey the command of God regardless due to one simple thing, which is faith in only God's will and nothing else. Faith... true submission... pure obedience in that God knows better than you, and you must trust that. Iblis exposed that his faith was clearly not determined in submitting to gods will even when God commanded him, directly! Moreover we learn that this was the qadr (divine decree) as is everything. Gods plan WAS to expose iblis as god knows everything from the very beginning of time and before that. He knew even before the creation of iblis and the creation of the angels and jinn and the universe that iblis would do this, BECAUSE that IS the decree and plan of the lord itself. It paints a serious lesson for us as humans as we see arrogance and pride in people and it is one of the worst sins. Thinking you are right when you are wrong, and not being humble when there is any opportunity to learn the truth, and rather thinking you know better.

Correction: Jinn (iblees) are made of Smokeless fire. To answer your Question about how Iblees was in the ranks of the Angels is that he was a Good Jinn prior to Adam. He fought for good on earth between the Jinn. His pride made him believe he deserved to be King on Earth. Jinn are like us with respect to having Choice to obey or not. Hence there are good and bad jinn. The idea of Fallen Angels makes no sense as Angels are only created to serve God, they cannot disobey in other words they don't have the freedom of choice, which negates them ever "falling". this is comes from Greek mythology (falling into hell (tartarus). this along with other Graeco-Roman paganism and traditions have been incorporated into Christianity.

(smokeless Fire could be a metaphoric description for plasmatic/ electric energy)... 10:03 - Iblis was ranked as a high commander on the side of the Jinn that were on God's side, when the "good and bad" Jinnies clashed militarily before the time when (prophet) Adam (pbuh) even had been created by God. Satan iblis ( jinn ) worshipped God more than any person alive on this planet now. He fought the infidel jinn along with the angels .. That is why God raised him alongside the angels .. God Almighty, before creating Adam, said to the angels, “I am placing a successor on earth.” They said, (Angels) “Will You place in it someone who will work corruption in it, and shed blood, while we declare Your praises and sanctify You?” God said, “I know what you do not know.” Since iblis is with the angels, he also hears what is going on. He becomes curious and wants to know .. after God created Adam's body from clay, remained for forty nights as a lying body. iblis would come to him and strike him with his foot .. It made a sound like the sound of clay and even pass between his bodie .. whenever iblis saw Adam's body he felt jealous . So his jealousy from Adam increased with time. Until God Almighty breathed life into Adam's body... after that the angels taught him everything .. and when God saw adam lonely he created Eve from his rib . You know the rest of the story when God asked Satan to bow down to adam and he did not .. and The rest of the story that iblis was the reason why Adam and Eve left the paradise because of a fruit from a specific tree which God forbade them to eat .

Allah jala jalaluh mentioned in Qur'an before creating Adam alaihisalam & mankind that He will place them on earth before being question by an angel about the purpose of creating another creation that will make further corruption & bloodshed to the land, (referring to the jinn). But Allah answered it by saying "Surely I knew what you don't". This answer by Allah shows how He is All Knowing attribute and then later, this drama of not willingly bowing down to Adam by Iblees after being ordered by Allah happened. This story go like this : Before the creation and descent of our master Adam, peace be upon him, to Earth, the jinn inhabited the Earth, but they destroyed and corrupted the Earth and shed blood, so God ordered the angels to descend to Earth to fight them and kill them all. And Satan was a small child (Infant) So the angels took him to the highest assembly so that God would consider his matter. God ordered the angels to let him live and learn among them. And when he grew up and learned a lot. And one day he heard the angels say that God will create a new creature. And when He went to see this creature and found the angels amazed and praising God. When he looked, he found that this creature was a statue made of clay. He said to the angels, “Do not be afraid. This is a weak creature, hollow from the inside.” He kept entering and exiting his body until he came to The day that God breathed his spirit into this statue to make it alive, and he was Adam, peace be upon him, the first human being created by God. Iblis was a good jin at that time of being there, when he disobeyed Allah he was made apart of the bad jinns. He had wings and all but him not bowing down he became ugly. Its found in the Quran and hadiths as well.

its interesting because we realise when we hear the story that iblis while worshipping Allah also had huge expectations for what he should obtain in return for that worship, he wanted to be the vice regent of the earth but Allah had chosen Prophet Adam (AS) and humans over Iblis for that. He had an arrogance that was exposed with the creation of Prophet Adam (AS). Allah does not owe us for the worship we do is a very strong lesson to be obtained here. Iblis was once honored for his righteous acts and allowed to be among the angels but he dishonored himself with his arrogance and attitude towards Allah. While we see in the story of Prophet Adam (AS) after the mistake he did not blame Allah, he recognised Allah's favours upon him and realised he had made the mistake for himself.

because when iblis was a child the angel gabriel/jibreel take the iblis to the heaven and first of all Allah gave him name "azazil" , and the azazil name changes to "iblis" because iblis don't wanna follow the command of Allah and disobey it
