I don't know where else to ask Grim Reapers questions but I would like to see a scenario where 10 fully loaded B52s with conventional guided bombs could have prevented pearl harbor attack or 10 fully loaded B1Bs could have sunk the attacking japanese fleet. I know in Iraq B1s few 2 percent of the sorties and dropped 80 percent of all the Bombs dropped. So it could be interesting.

F4 vs Commercial airliner. 1971 F4B collides with DC9 in California, with all but the F4’s RIO killed. A mix of VFR and IFR traffic as well as limited visibility was blamed for the incident. The F4 squadron was also questioned as to why the allowed the plane to fly with an inoperable transceiver, effectively making it invisible to ATC.

This crash was with Hughes Airwest Flight 706 and was the final straw that brought about the max 250 knots below 10000 foot rule that exists today. Of course some heavies such as 747 and A380 do "bust" this speed with permission from ATC as they need a faster speed to climb "clean" that is without any flaps hanging out and have good maneuverability.

I'd never heard about it before Cap's mention but I was just reading up on it now, and yeah, apparently the F-4 was in pretty broken condition with a lot of inop systems. Aside from the broken transponder, it was also restricted to low altitude due to a bad oxygen system leak, and it couldn't see the DC-9 on its own radar either. If any of those 3 systems had been functional, everything would have been fine.

The other thing with this F4 model is that the pilot can't eject if the RIO ejects first.

Check out the history of the Thanh Hoa (Dragon's Jaw) bridge in Vietnam. It survived hundreds of sorties dropping thousands of unguided bombs, with American aircraft losses exceeding 100 planes. But the first time it was attacked with laser-guided bombs, the bridge dropped.

Here’s an idea: Use the main combat assets of the Mexican Airforce(6 Active F5s and 3-4 in reserve for a total of 9-10 F5s + 3 Embraer AWACS) and do a mission with these. Maybe attacking a Cuban Airfield?

I think for comparison, you should run this with the F-15E and JDAMs. Here's a bit of trivia, on the F-4G "Wild Weasel" late in their life cycle, were modified to accept the belly tank from the F-15 stressed for 5g instead of the standard 3g of the original.

When you pop the canopy in flight I'm reminded of the time one of our F-4E pilots accidently opened his canopy in flight. Was during the colder weather as I recall (Elmendorf AFB). We also had a crew receive the nick names of baskins and robins, they wanted to take ice cream to one of the remote sites. They put it in the gun bay (heated) it was melted all over the place.

For the Phantom, could you do a modern wargame where you play as Turkish F-4s, and your job is to hunt down Russian cruise missiles fired at Turkey? The idea would be that F-16s defend you from Su-30s and Su-35s while you use AiM-7s on Kh-55s fired from Tu-95s

Hughes Airwest Flight 706 was a regularly scheduled flight operated by American domestic airline Hughes Airwest from Los Angeles, California to Seattle, Washington, with several intermediate stops. On Sunday, June 6, 1971, the McDonnell Douglas DC-9 serving as Flight 706 departed Los Angeles just after 6 p.m. en route to Seattle as a McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II of the United States Marine Corps was approaching Marine Corps Air Station El Toro near Irvine at the end of a flight from Naval Air Station Fallon in Nevada. The two aircraft collided in midair over the San Gabriel Mountains near Duarte, killing all 49 aboard the DC-9 and the F-4 pilot; the F-4 radar intercept officer ejected and survived. The crash of Flight 706 prompted the United States Armed Forces to agree to reduce the number of military aircraft operating under visual flight rules in civilian air corridors and to require military aircraft to contact civilian air traffic controllers. I know you think I went to Wiki to copy and paste this. Nope, did it from memory. True story. (well, partly true...I did go to Wiki) lol

Try the same mission with the AGM 12 Bullpup. lol I just watched the tutorial with Poosh, then I went straight into DCS and never hit a target. I suppose it's like everything else in DCS, the more practice the easier it gets. This may be the exception. The amount of rage quit is strong when you flew 130 nm and hit nothing, not even the parking lot.

Maybe I’m nuts but, I would have loaded nothing but napalm. Whatever is in the general vicinity would have received damage. I would’ve gone in first for fear factor (keeping the enemies heads down), inflicting maximum damage using minimal effort and allowing the rest of my team to attack other targets. I wonder if napalm ordinance was an option

Hello my name is melo and I am new to the channel. Not sure if this is something you guys have ever done before. A battle between carriers where the fighter wings can only use guns an laser-guided bombs at altitude . So the scenario I envision a modern US aircraft carrier what is full complement of Fighters are armed with standard loadout of guns and or gun pods also armed with radar guided bombs to eliminate the enemies carrier of Chinese or Russian. No missiles whatsoever no missiles that can lock on to the carriers carriers only defense machine gun based Point defense c, Ram just curious if that's something that has ever been done

I would say the doing multiple runs is not the best idea, in Vietnam there was a saying to follow when doing bombings: one pass haul ass. Basically drop all your bombs and get out because the AAA would now be manned and targeting by the time your second pass come. Other than that amazing video as alway

Are you not able to find the general area you want to hit and lock a random patch of ground then slew the camera around and it locks the first target you move over? you just seemed to be using the A/C controls to move the camera centre line over the target and missing multiple locks. The LLTV pod on the SU25T allows for this so i wondered if the F4 did too.

I've always loved the F4 because it was the coolest jet in the early 70's when I was growing up. It was also one of my favorite models I ever built, I think it was a Revell? kit. It was the Navy version, white body, NG on the tail, all in black. Unfortunately I really can't afford to get the DCS model right now, currently laid-off from work. The company I work for was building the steel framework for VLS then AVLS launchers for the Navy. The contracts made good money but somehow management saw it as a dead-end and sold off the division. Apparently nobody on the management team pays any attention or bothered to look into the current military situation, the world swirling the toilet due to a couple of insane narcissists starting and threatening war, and the fact the US is now putting AVLS launchers on pretty much anything in response to these a$$wipes threats, stockpiling missiles and, now being dic&heads. But hey, de-diversification is always a smart idea when you're a manufacturer. Eyes rolling into the double face palm... At least I can live vicariously thru Cap and the handsome boys he gathers round him. Today's mission was a lot of fun. Thanks Cap, you didn't kill us!
