The rate of children dropping out of school has decreased because of the mid day meal system. It's a very good initiative for kids as well as parents who are confident about the children remaining in school rather than loitering. One more initiative is the free providing of sanitary pads in rural areas where once the girls hit puberty they used to stop attending schools but now the girls too attend schools 👍

Not all of them. Only ones who can reach a temple or gurudwara where a big meal/langar is served. Most temples only give a small amount of prasadam, and most poor people are busy working during the time these temples are open. Food us not served during after/before work hours.

It's true because both of the parents are working daily to get some money so they send their children to school so that they can get food at least once a day. This was the sole purpose of mid-day meal scheme

India has fought hard in last three decades against hunger. Hot food in schools is a key part of it. Organisations like Akshay Patra are very few. Government itself sends grocery to every school and every school has a cooking team. During Corona pandemic when schools closed under lockdown this team was asked to deliver food packets to homes. I am talking about how it is done in my state. Other states too would have worked on these aspects I am sure. We have too many complaints on our systems but we should also notice good things they do. It is not easy to manage masses and their massive problems.

In Tamil Nadu, the government is doing it for more than 50 years. The idea is first coined by our former Chief Minister Kamarajar. His vision was to educate as many children as possible and at that time children from poor family choose work than education so that their family survives. Kamarajar's Mid-day meals (Mathiya unavu thittam) scheme brought these children to school so that they can have a free meal a day and they fed education along with food to these children...

In the great meals after weddings, festivals, processions, etc. there is little opportunity for the serving people to wait and listen to what you want and don't want. The food comes out in gigantic proportions like a well-oiled machine, and you just stay silent if you want it and wave your hand if you don't. It's that simple. So even if the person is actually about to move away from you, and has given you enough, you still do the motion because it's ingrained. Even the smallest children know of it. The head-tilting, the hand waving- all very ingrained.

They cook without onions, garlic. In Tamil nadu we have the same school meals system (sathu unavu thittam - nutritious meal system). In this system every primary school in every disctrict IN every town and in every village IN Tamil nadu has a kitchen and people are employed to cook in the kitchen in the school. They can source the raw materials locally and decide upon the menu. Unlike the centralised system which spends a lot of donations on technology, industrialised cooking, operations and has a coverage fairly limited to only certain regions in general. In the mid meals system in tamilnadu the government spends for it. Such NGOs promote privateers their tax evasion IN the name of corporate social responsibility. This sort of evades the responsibility of governments in developing schools and such systems which remain sustainable and devoid of economical loopholes.
