Back in the days when ISRO was just getting started almost everyone laughed upon us for being a poverty-stricken country that wanted to have a space agency but it's all thanks to our leader Vikram Sarabhai who saw this as an important tool to fix our looted society. It is his ardent desire to use space for the common people and make others realise his dream which really paid of. He is truly a lost gem of INDIA and in a broader sense to the WORLD itself.

I am so proud of ISRO. My grandfather's (was the Director of VSSC) dream was to see the launch of the GSLV but he died 2 years prior to the launch. My grandfather helped design the SLV, PSLV and, GSLV and was one of the most hard-working people. RIP Dr. Srinivasan, it was a shame I never got to meet him.

@@donhuang9855 Though i do agree, to a point. the US had fallen behind with the retirement of the space shuttle. We relied on Russia and the ESA to get things into space for about a decade. Putting us behind in space technology for a good while Luckily the US is coming back strong with SpaceX, Blue Origin, SNC and a few others I'm glad more countries and industries are joining the space race.

This is ridiculous. 1. ISRO does not see things in terms of ‘humiliating NASA’. 2. ISRO is underpaying its engineers. 3. ISRO utilizes solid rocket motors, that is ballistic technology nowhere near NASA’s advanced propulsion systems. 4. ISRO’s maximum lift capability to LEO is 5.3 tons 5. Saturn V could lift 130 tons to LEO and 43 tons to the moon. 6. Delta IV, just retired NASA vehicle could lift 14ons to GTO 7. SLS can lift a ridiculous 70 tons to the moon, and that is not including start ship, and others So, if you think ISRO is in competition with NASA, you are smoking something, ISRO and NASA are partners, and ISRO is a junior partner, even smaller than JAXA and ESA. This is not a bad thing. UAE’S UAESA and Kenya’s KSA are also Artemis partners.

So for a country which was recently looted hard af and doing this much is surprising, for context American colonization started in 1607 and ended between the years of 1776 to 1783, and they've had what 217 years or more to recover whereas India has had only 76 years to recover. So, please have some shame saying this when your country has achieved such a feat, and i can guarantee you that your mother wouldn't be proud of the person you've today.

Their starting salary is 56k which is just the base pay, plus all allowances added it will be anywhere near 80k a month. For a senior engineer the pay can go anywhere upto 4-5 lakhs a month ! Compared to US standards its not much but Indian standards, well more than enough to live a decent and pretty good life.

Staying back in India and working doesn't really require one to live uncomfortably. The reason why people leave to foreign countries is because the Indian state rarely awards merit. Everyone is under some or the other type of reservation. People will get the highest scores and still not get selected in their dream universities. This is when foreign education comes in. Since NASA is a government agency, it is only open for citizens with American citizenship. Even Indian Americans don't form any portion of NASA scientists. If you go to NASA site and look at their official demographics data then you will find that Asians only make up 0.2 - 0.5 % of all NASA scientists and in US Asian includes South Asians, East Asians and South East Asians. So Indians will make even less percentage of the Asians in NASA. You should always verify information you are told from credible sources. Don't just believe anything from Social Media and News. ISRO is doin great. In 2020, Indian govt made it legal for private space companies to operate. Indian Aerospace industry is in its infancy stages, and we can expect a lot over the next decade. One correction though, Mars orbiter Mission was cheap not because it was developed by ISRO, but because it didn't had much payloads. It was simply a tech demonstrator mission. U see, Chandrayaan-2 was expensive, bcoz it had a lot of scientific equipments.

It should be noted that the mission of NASA and of the ISRO are very different. Yes the launch was cheaper and that should be acknowledged but we should also acknowledged that it was a lighter craft and less scientifically capable then NASA. It will do what it is suppose to well but will not have as broad missions. The larges cost in most programs is personal and the cost to work in the US (i.e pay to employees) is significantly higher.

well It's mainly because of the fact that those countries who built earlier space agencies has not enough foundation to built on, but right now space X, NASA and etc had already made scientific breakthroughs, researches and innovation to space exploration that other space agencies can build foundation from. Without a doubt even though India's space station is independent the science of how they manage the system is inspired from the earlier space stations knowledge. Also it is not surprising how fast India risen in space technology, India is like the 6th or 5th richest country in the world, the only reason why India has a bad reputation is because of how concentrated the money is to upper middle class and above, India is rich that has a lot of poor people. Plus basing on this India is pulling a lot of budget for this so its really not surprising to see how fast it is. I'm proud of ISRO. But There is a difference between pioneer and followers. We must respect the engineers who contributed for the first space program in NASA. They are the pioneers in space and if you do it for the first time it comes with its own cost.

@@wb6mc129 Probably because NASA's expenses still seems to be sky high even after all these decades, since they pioneered in trying out new technology, not so much in making them more efficient and cheaper to use. These days NASA delegates such tasks by contracting private companies such as SpaceX for earth related missions since they could do it for much cheaper, while they focus on developing technology to study what lies much further. Pioneering new technology ain't cheap, but NASA has more budget than anyone else, so making things affordable is secondary to making a quality product for their ambitions.

While I might agree if this was the case in any other field, I'd like to point out that even if NASA was a pioneer, India or any other country was never a follower in the sense that there was no technology exchange happening. Every country put their smartest minds on work to develop their own authentic space program. Saying that NASA was a pioneer and every other country was just a follower is completely wrong and brings shame to all those hard working minds.
