It is always great to watch Palki covering the news. However, I'd like to point out that during the 1971 war, Britain wasn't neutral. While Nixon sent the US 7th Fleet's Task Force led by USS Enterprise, the UK sent their own naval group, led by their aircraft carrier, HMS Eagle and also their light fleet carrier(later converted to a commando carrier), HMS Albion. They had planned a coordinated pincer attack on India with the US from the east targeting Chittagong, and the UK, targeting India's west coast. The only reason why that attack never happened was because of the Red Navy, because the Soviet nuclear submarines had overtaken the American fleet and when the Enterprise was moving towards East Pakistan, the submarines surfaced without any warning. Shocked, the Americans and the Brits had no other choice but to back off.

I must say, it is more than I expected. It is interesting that the public support for Modi seems pretty bipartisan, except for the Islamophobia contingent in the Democratic party. What is so cool about Modi, for me, is that he quotes a few Vedic Sanskrit statements. I actually agree to some extent about the USA (and Europe) as colonizing powers that haven't given up their colonizing psychology. But that doesn't mean that there is nothing in their idealism that has no merit whatsoever. This is the point of the sattva-guṇa, which India tries (or should try) to project. Today's world is of rajas domination. Rising powers are rājasika. Established powers become prey to tamas. That is most evident on the level of the culture wars. If you watch Rajiv Malhotra, you will observe that Hindu Americans are becoming more self-conscious as a community and Modi has had a lot to do with that. There was evidence of the same phenomenon in Australia, and if Modi ever came to Canada, poor Trudeau would be put into a rather embarrassing position. There are more Hindus per pop. in Canada that almost anywhere in the Anglosphere. I don't like the idea of Hindus becoming party to the victim mentality that is the biggest sign of the tamo-guṇa affecting America and the West. Can anything be more tāmasika than the promotion of hypersexuality and the destruction of the family are the tāṇḍava nr̥tya of the Lord of Destruction. Their foot-soldiers even look like the pretas and bhūtas, the imps and hobgoblins that dance with the Naṭarāja. Nevertheless, unfair portrayals of Hinduism are painful to every Hindu, as has been the case since Suttee and child marriage days. But there is a clash of civilizations here that everyone needs to pay attention to. Because of whatever reason you wish to choose, India has evolved into a country that adores peace. As with every closed multi-national collectivities, there has been friction over time, but the philosophy was adjusted so that people could live in peace and even find liberation or prema or whatever spiritual good they sought. And of course, society would benefit from the presence of those whose minds and hearts had touched Brahman. At any rate, when it comes to "shared values", pointing to democracy puts the two countries on a level of competition also. America is trying to condemn Indian democratic values for India's actions in Kashmir, especially the repeal of Article 370, but it seems that this move has had beneficial results. But India has plenty of things to point the finger at the USA as well. To err is human. There is of course a lot more to say, as this speech does indeed feel historic. Hari OM
