Finally, someone explaining CAD that seems fresh, excited and authentic about it, thank you for the great info/insight, please continue to make great content!

I'm proficient in solidworks and keyshot but want to learn Alias automotive and 3dsMax now. Industrial design is cool as you can work in a workshop manufacturing/prototyping or working in a design studio to design and model/ create engineering drawings for manufacture.

What do you think is the best cad for Mac? Is autocad ok? Or I should get a pc absolutely to use solidworks or inventor?

Jimmy, I just put two and two together and realized that you were on Driver vs. Driver! I actually met Eric Sillies at an IDSA conference in April this year. So cool!

Can you make a video on material selection and where to find companies that make prototypes for you? PLEASE!

Hi Jimmy! I'm studying industrial design right now, i'm in my third year. I wanted to ask you, what CAD program do you use or recommend? greetings from Venezuela!
@KJCoin
@KJCoin 7 жыл бұрын
Aslin Solarte if you are looking for a free program I highly recommend Autodesk Fusion 360 (very similar to solid work) except autodesk makes it extremely easy for students to get their hands on their software for free and you can make very beautiful models and renders! Sorry to steal your question Jimmy ;)

Im also in my third year of ID, I can highly recommend Fusion 360. However, it is really beneficial to know more than one CAD program, especially since Fusion is very new and most Companies use more established software like Autodesk Inventor, Solidworks or Rhinocerus 3D. Im focusing on Fusion, but I'm learning Rhino, Cinema 4D and Solidworks as the companies im applying for use these programs.

I would second all of this. I'm a professional industrial designer and the programs we use range from Rhino, Solidworks, Fusion 360, and Creo (mostly just engineers use creo though). For rendering, most of us use Keyshot, but one guy uses Bunkspeed too.

+Z Hoek How is it being an Industrial Designer?? I'm just starting and I'd like to know how it is after graduation! :)

+ matthewnour97 Ah nice, if you're passionate about it definitely stick with it! It's a blast every single day. I would compare it to ID studio classes in school, but add in like 50 team members on each project and they're all from different departments. The biggest difference, I think, is that you have to work with a lot of different people who have different interests in the products than yours. For instance, a mechanical engineer might want a product that's very simple looking and easy to build, marketing might want a product that has a ton of features, procurement wants something inexpensive...you have to be able to be vocal about the ID considerations of the product without being a d*ck to your team members. It's definitely a challenge, but as you know, ID'ers love a challenge. Good luck!

Thanks for the video, what kind of programs would you recommend? I use Sketchup for most of my stuff ( I know, but hey, im comfortable with it and have designed some pretty cool stuff), and then I render in blender, I want to start using inventor to be more professional, but I would like to know what your stance is on software, thanks!

Hello, Does any of you guys offer designing products services like on Fiverr or something else if you do leave a reply to my comment I sometimes need a simple design for a picture frame or something else so nothing drastic.

Jason Leblanc awh sorry my fault ! 😁 Well for me I use solidworks for the last 5-6 years through school and college and I think it's one of the best and easiest to learn :) also I use sketchup for bigger scale stuff like buildings and architecture, I probably wouldn't recommend SketchUp for smaller scale stuff ! And then keyshot as my rendering software for both ! It's beast ! 😁 I hear people speak a lot about another 3d cad software called rhino as well, supposed to be good !

Technically you could do both. If you have time outside of work you can use it to draw/paint ect. And maybe try to reach out to a gallery exhibit (if it’s good ofc)
