To pull off a successful pit stop during an IndyCar race, it takes a team of highly skilled and physically fit crew members including tire technicians, air-jack operators, fuelers, and coaches. During a typical pit stop, the crew changes all four tires and adds 18.5 gallons of fuel in less than seven seconds. In May, Insider followed the Andretti Autosport pit crew as they prepared for the 2021 Indianapolis 500. In the week leading up to the race, the team worked out at PitFit, a fitness center specifically designed to train pit crew members. The team also conducted dozens of pit stop practices at the Andretti Autosport practice facility and tested their state-of-the-art cars at the famed speedway on Carb Day ahead of IndyCar's most famous race.

I think it's more like they make it look easy. You see the car come in, then a few seconds later, it leaves with a fresh set of tyres and a full tank. A lot of us to to the local garage, and Dave the tubby mechanic is struggling to get the first nut off the wheel.

It is easy, thats the point. Any able bodied person who can lift a tire and pull a trigger could do it. You would just have to do it a thousand times to do it under 7 seconds. Doesn’t mean it’s difficult.

I admire how focused these people must be. When watching Indycar, if you've ever seen when things go wrong like when Graham Rahal's tire slipped off right after a pit stop, then you know how wrong things can go. Another thing to realize from this is the gravity of what is at stake with what each of these people do. One slip up could cost someone their life. So I can't help but admire these people.

They wouldn't need to get rid of refueling if they didn't have a classroom of people changing the tires on the car. If they brought back refueling, they could bring back smaller cars that could actually race on Monaco.
@Lucky8s
@Lucky8s 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheNFSJacob I'm not sure what you're talking about. Refueling in Formula 1 was not affected by the pit crew on tires. There were multiple instances of fires and personnel getting injured by hoses that got ripped off because drivers left before they should've
@TheNFSJacob
@TheNFSJacob 3 жыл бұрын
@@Lucky8s Have you ever wondered if the extremely quick pit stops, combined with refueling made it so the margin for error was too small? When the pitstops are in the 2 - 3 second range, its way more likely someone is going to make a major mistake that will result in injury. It would have made way more sense to simply reduce the amount of crewmembers allowed to work on the car, instead of getting rid of refueling all together. The only time fires happen in Indycar is the rare occasion when some fuel drips its way near the exhaust (and almost all the time, the fire goes out once the car gets going) Besides, less people surrounding the car = less people to get injured in the rare event of a mistake from the fuel man.

@@aluaikaa8453 It's not that big of a difference in literal manpower. Maybe. But does it matter? For racers their driving skills are priority, not fitness. Vice versa.

For all the f1 fanboys saying “2 SeCoNd PiT sToPs”: F1 teams have 3 people per tire and no refueling, of course they’re going to be quicker. Meanwhile in Indycar, Jessica over here is bench pressing and doing what takes 3 dudes to do a in 2 second stop all in a little over 4 seconds

I was amazes to learn about Pit Crews and their work of so high quality, especially there was one lady (Jessica Mace) there. I've recently learned how to replace the tires on the wheels and did 15 already for 3 of our cars (10 usual and 5 w/TPMS sensors). The last car had steel wheels and it was very hard for me to put them on the car. I was so much impressed how the lady from the film was grabbing the tire just with one hand and put new one w/another hand. It would be interesting to know those mechanics who work there are they trained to do just certain type of maintenance work on IndyCars, or they are very professional mechanics who can do any work on the car? Are they the best from Dealerships, or they have very special and different training? Thank you for this great film.

Salary is the bribe you are given to forget your dreams, family, freedom, self-esteem, academics, social life, and other personal goals. That is why I don't trade, I choose to invest with a professional assigned by a crypto company that trades with the best wins and returns profits weekly for me and you can invest your capital and get weekly Returns of investment (ROI) without any extra fees attached

So in your next employment you can do exactly the same role or nothing at all. I love the description of I change a tyre , when in actual fact it’s the wheel that’s being changed. That in essence involves undoing some wheel nuts with an impact wrench. When I get new tyres at my local garage , the guys that work there do this hundreds of times a month.
