Hi Gabriel, Awesome vid by the way! - If I could ask you a question, do you get vaccinated before you travel to all these countries, or do you think vaccinations in general are just unnecessary, and can be competely avoided (the illnesses) by a good immune system, eating healthy, working out ect. Would really love to hear you're opinion on it. Cheers!
@GabrielTravelerVideos7 жыл бұрын
hi there, thanks. Check my other video right before this one about getting ready for India, I discussed vaccinations. It's kind of hard to say decisively either way. Yes most illness can likely be avoided with a good immune system but also things like typhoid, hepatitis, diphtheria, etc. can get you if you're just unlucky. I haven't got any immunizations in years and have been fine, but I did get the major ones before my first trip to India in 1999. Here's that vid: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aaPNaXqbr7B0h7M
@willreay90367 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the response! I'll check that video now. :) - Yeah i'm currently planning to go to Thailand, and my family are pressuring me to get a variety of different vaccine shots, but I just get the feeling in my gut and heart not to do it. They put a lot of toxic shit in there lol. But yeh like you said pretty sure its all down to you're immune system and taking the neccessary precautions. :)

What would you say the budget for 5 months of travel would be in India? About $1000 a month?
@GabrielTravelerVideos7 жыл бұрын
You can easily travel there for less than that, $600 per month or so, depending on what sort of accommodation you choose. But $1,000 a month and you can travel in style.
@gingertravelerblog19697 жыл бұрын
That's awesome! I am trying to plan an extended journey, the visa process seems daunting and it appears that you can't guarantee a 6 month visa for Canadians as sometimes you get a 3 month visa.
@GabrielTravelerVideos7 жыл бұрын
Exactly, it's really frustrating to figure out. Also, I'm pretty sure that your visa starts running down the clock from the day it's issued, not the day you enter India. You'll want to check into that to be sure, because that will also affect how much time you will have in the country. Hopefully they've changed that because it's a stupid system that makes no sense, but otherwise you might want to wait until you actually get your visa, and be prepared to book your flight right away once you get it. Then of course, you don't know what you will end up paying for your flight.
@gingertravelerblog19697 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice, I am beginning to think that it might be easier to fly into Nepal and get a visa at the Indian Embassy or a travel company. At least I would know I had a significant time in Nepal if all else failed.
@GabrielTravelerVideos7 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think that's a good idea actually. Then you can book your flight, get over there and deal with it while you're already traveling. I've never done it that way, but I think it takes about a week. You go into the embassy there and can talk with them in person, instead of mailing your passport. Hang out in Kathmandu while you're waiting, or else take off for a few days and come back to pick it up. You can get a visa on arrival for Nepal for 90 days, it's $100.
@DanielVanCuylenburg7 жыл бұрын
Do the buses have AirCon? Also are you getting your money in bulk before you go or while you're there? Thanks for the video Gab
@GabrielTravelerVideos7 жыл бұрын
The local buses definitely don't have a/c, other than air cooling! (Open windows.) But the private tourist buses might. Those generally have to be booked in advance and oftentimes go at night. Some city buses in the bigger cities might have a/c. As for cash, I brought about 500 euros with me from Europe, changed that into rupees over a few different times and otherwise have withdrawn cash from the ATMs which will allow up to 10,000 rupees and charge you a few dollars each time (plus whatever your bank charges for international withdrawals, in my case another $5).

Michelle, I actually thought of you when I walked past a fruit stand in Goa, while I was making the video of going to Agonda beach. So when I saw the fruit stand I got a good shot of it and even said in the video "this is for Michelle". It was a great clip with some other cool things in it. Then a little while later I realized that the camera wasn't filming and I missed the whole clip. I was bummed because it was a really cool clip that also included a guy riding by on a motorcycle with his dog on the bike. But I'll definitely get a good shot of some fresh fruits and vegetables at some point here in India.

@GabrielTravelerVideos7 жыл бұрын
Similar but I think with India you can be more flexible because there are a lot more buses going in different directions, so you won't have to wait as long. And also cheaper. In Thailand I mostly booked buses ahead of time. But the Thai buses are way nicer and the roads are in a lot better shape. So you get what you pay for as they say.

How do you figure out which busses to take? And when are where to get off?
@GabrielTravelerVideos7 жыл бұрын
Good question. There are a few different ways to deal with that. In this case then I'd been there before so I had some familiarity with a couple of the towns along the way. I went from Goa (a different part up in the north) all the way to Gokarna four years ago, which was way crazier because it took something like ten buses and around ten hours. But basically, as long as where you're going is well known and/or close by, you can just go up to bus drivers and say the name of the town you're trying to get to. They don't even have to speak English, as long as you're saying the name right. And if there isn't a bus going directly to that place, they will point you towards a bus that is going in that direction and say the name of the place that bus is going to. So it's kind of like hopping from one rock to another over a creek. Another way would be to have a map of the area, look at the route and notice where the bigger towns are. Then you will be a little more prepared and can ask for a bus going to the next big town. Also there are info desks at the bus stations like the one I showed, and the guys working there usually speak some English. So you can go up to them and explain where you're trying to get to and they'll help you out.

You are awesome and man you are 100% correct. I dont know why people dont know this about buses in India - including Indians. If you are patient, then you can go anywhere in the "general direction" and its always dependable. I always take the day buses because no one does it. And its empty.

What you referred to as third class is actually officially called second class, just in case anyone watching asks for a second class ticket and then recieves a nice surprise of hundreds of people stampeding to get on the second class carriage. It's definitely a experience.
@GabrielTravelerVideos7 жыл бұрын
Are you sure about that? So is there a distinction then between "2nd class" and "2nd class sleeper"? Because I almost always get a second class sleeper, or else 2nd class chair and in both cases that's the class in which you have a reserved seat and it's not overcrowded. I almost never travel first class (there are three tiers of first class). And I thought for sure the couple times I got the dirt cheap ticket on the overcrowded train it was referred to as 3rd class. Anyway important to get this cleared up one way or another.
@IxDyNaMiczZxI7 жыл бұрын
As I understand, there is first class and then everything in between such as sleeper, air conditioned sleeper, air conditioned chair car etc. After all these you then have the unreserved carriages which are second class hence why they say general/second class/ II on the side of the carriages. If you check online for trains they never display anything saying third class. I'm not an expert by any means and this is all based off the last 6 months of travel in India so it's possible I'm completely wrong or that they changed the system at some point? I've taken the second class a few times and almost always it's been super busy, but it's also super cheap and it's a great way to interact with the locals. I even got a meal bought for me from a very generous family who refused payment.
@AdamGoodsellOfficial7 жыл бұрын
It's called general ticket. I've taken it before.
@GabrielTravelerVideos7 жыл бұрын
I think What explained it right. And I'd forgotten about it being called General Ticket but that must be the official term for what is also called third class. 2nd class as What explained is with the sleepers, that's what I almost always take because the ticket prices are like a third of the A/C class 3rd tier (A/C come in three tiers, the first is the full First Class treatment). A funny story comes to mind on that but I won't digress. I've taken third tier a/c which is nicer than 2nd class sleeper but not a huge step up. Second class sleeper works just fine and is a great deal for the price and having a bunk, especially if you make sure to get the top bunk, then you can relax there all through the day above the fray.
@AdamGoodsellOfficial7 жыл бұрын
I've been finding a/c/ right now to be too much cold. Tip for the buses, if you're on a sleeper bus, never get the back sideways bed. Every bump on these roads and it bounces like your middle school school bus. You end up waking up 3 feet in the air. We had that problem last week ;)
