There's this argument that animals shouldn't have to die to give us food, especially considering that we are _omnivores._ What about the notion of animals dying in order to give us _clothing?_ Given that we can find alternatives for the _first_ end, it should be _laughably_ easy to find alternatives for the _second._

The device you're using was made in a sweatshop by underpaid kids. Think about paper, it's made of innocent trees. There is absolutely nothing wrong with using vegetable tanned hides/leather for clothing. The fact is that it it MUCH MUCH better for the environment, the hide and for you. How can you say that you wouldn't want to wear a jacket from veg tanned hides but it is perfectly fine to wear horrible hides tanned with tons of heavy metals causing cancer and pollution? Almost all of modern day chrome tanned leather is produced in countries with little to no laws concerning the waste that it produces or the safety of the workers. Not a very informative video at all.
@Matityahu-the-God3 жыл бұрын
Umm, you didn't listen. The jacket would be very stiff. Not everyone is so extra with the hippie shit that they'll reject modern technology at every turn just so they can hug another tree. If that's how you feel about it 1. Make your own damn video if you can do better 2. Stop buying anything that isn't made 100% naturally, and supports local communities. You're trying to sound all righteous, but you definitely don't practice what you preach. Complaining about underapreciated foreign workers made you cool back in 2005, get with the times. "Oh no, these countries don't have proper pollution laws" yeah, not every country has the money necessary to support themselves like we do. We gave technology and capital necessary to make green changes. There's a reason we're still using coal and chromium leather. Price. You think we're just lazy and don't feel like changing? You should try to understand a bit more about why things are the way they are before crying. And at least be a big kid and try to think of a solution, complaining won't do anything. Stop begging big man uncle Sam to fix everything, they aren't your mommy.
@emu14003 жыл бұрын
@Matityahu People have made clothing out of naturally tanned hides (bark tan, brain tan, urine tanned in some cases) for thousands of years without complaining of it being stiff. It may be from the start but once you begin to wear it often enough it will soften up. I DO practise what I preach since I do all of my tanning by myself using furs that would have been thrown away by hunters or local farmers that can't afford to ship them off to tanneries or just don't care for it. I use organic oil and egg yolks from my own chickens (using the whites for cooking) who are free range and get to eat everything that the forest offers and, of course, regular organic chicken feed. I would never buy hides from stores that import chrome tanned hides from across the world due go the reasons I mentioned in my original comment. I try to buy produce and milk from local farms and eat seasonal food so that I can eat more Swedish fruits and vegetables instead of eating imported. I buy almost all of my clothing in second hand stores instead of supporting big companies who don't care for their workers and the environment. I patch my clothes when they break and when I do buy new clothes I buy from eco-friendly brands. Do I need to go on? I absolutely know WHY things are the way they are, why companies choose to have their unhealthy, non-environmentally friendly factories in poor countries where they can pay less than minimum wage for the workers. People are greedy and people love to subscribe to fast fashion, especially now when the peer pressure to show off your new stuff 24/7 is higher than ever. Money money money.

Leather is an animal product. Using genuine leather as in belts, jackets, shoes and other items is much better morally than getting something made out of faux leather (pretty much just plastic) and having to rebuy the same item many times before the leather starts to wear down. The planet has a huge enough issue with plastic so it is doing it a favor to use leather products and honoring the animal it came from and using it instead of throwing it away
