Easy to follow and thorough step by step tutorials do it yourself (DIY) to help you with your broken lawn and garden equipment including snowblowers.
I do my best to teach you how to easily diagnose problems the fastest, quickest and most efficient way with real repairs beyond just replacing a spark plug. These tips are for both the homeowner and shop owner.
Whether it be a handheld, two stroke, two cycle engine like a chainsaw, weed eater, weed wacker, string trimmer, grass trimmer, line trimmer, hedge trimmer, strimmer, brush cutter, leaf blower, or four stroke, four cycle units like a lawnmower, wood splitter, lawn tractor, snowblower, pressure washer, generator or a ride on mower that needs parts installed or replaced, I’m your go-to guy.
My favorite brands of spark plugs are NGK and Champion and are the ones I recommend.
I’ve been a small engine mechanic for many decades and also run my own repair shop so my videos are loaded with tips and tricks that I have learned and want to share with you. You will also find many tool and product reviews from top brands on my channel as well.

Regarding the Nikasil coating claims and how to tell the difference from a chrome plated liner. The Nikasil coated liner will have slight magnetic properties while the chrome liner will not. Using a strong magnet you will find an attraction to the Nikasil. In my experience some vendors will claim their cylinders to be Nikasil plated when in fact they are not. As always, buyer beware.

@@ianbutler1983 Strangely enough, the Chinese vendors I have dealt with in the past that did sell cylinder kits labeled as being Nikasil coated which in fact were not, where quite forthcoming with a full refund. They also offered to let me keep the chrome plated piston/cylinder kits and offered an apology as well for my trouble! Who knows, perhaps the vendor has been mislead as well. Yes I know, I lead a charmed life. LOL

@@74willy81 Yes, the few times I have challenged a Chinese vendor on a false claim I got a refund and was told to keep the unit. @@DavesSmallEngines Dave I'm not sure what you've got laying around the shop for new or old cylinders but you can always compare those to see what if any difference you find. I work on mostly larger commercial saws but I would suspect that most of the Stihl and Husqvarna saws would have Nikasil liners. Try it on an old one just for yucks. Not a strong attraction but definitely there. Chrome cylinders will have zero attraction, new or old.

I have a couple from Canadian Tire - a local hardware store. Every gauge will read slightly different so the best piece of advice I have is to find one, and use it universally so you know what to base it on. I have looked up stock PSI for several saws and compared it to my own results. I then know how much mine is off (or should be off).

Great video, I wish I had that compression! I’ve got a 17 old Stihl 310 (original owner) that ran great until during a light cutting session, the RPM’s just started dropping and was bogging-down until the saw stopped. Fuel seemed near empty, I re-fueled and it’s never fired again. After watching one of your earlier vid’s, I checked my compression, 110 psi. Used a bore scope piston looks new with no scratches on cylinder walls, with exhaust off no scratches on piston side. Have spark, no firing with fuel squirted in cylinder. Is 110 psi too low to fire? Sounds like your recent apprentice vid. I always run Stihl Moto Pre-Mix.

Never ever dump straight oil in a small engine to be mixed. It drops straight to the bottom of the gas tank and gets sucked into the fuel line upon start up, even after agitating, I have pulled more weed wackers and chainsaw carburetors that were pickled in straight oil simply from people dumping the oil into the gas . Why? Think about it. If the tank is full of fuel, how is that oil supposed to get mixed around? There is not enough air space in that gas tank to properly agitate the oil gas mix. Even then, are you going to stand there and shake the crap out of that heavy chain saw? Nope. As I stated, that oil is much heavier than the fuel and drops right to the bottom and clings to the bottom. Want to test it? ok. Take a clear plastic bottle, not glass. Is your tank on your chainsaw glass? Anyways. Pour in some gas, about 3/4 or more. Now, drop in a cap full of oil or more. Now, drain out the gas. Whats in the bottom ? Oil, thats what. Ok, now. If the fuel pick up is recessed in the tank with a screen, guess where that oil went? I can guarantee on the first few pulls, that slug of oil is heading right for the carburetor. I have cleaned out brand new equipment choked with oil. Always, always premix your fuel BEFORE adding it to the tank.
