‘How is this going to end?’: James O’Brien reflects on one year from the October 7th attacks | LBC

Israel has begun commemorating the victims of Hamas’ ‘monstrous’ attacks on October 7 last year.
Hamas' attack, which killed 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and dragged some 250 into Gaza as hostages, continues to cast a shadow over daily life in Israel.
Dozens of hostages remain in captivity, with no end in sight to their struggle. Border communities have been upended and tens of thousands were displaced. Soldiers are being killed in Gaza and Lebanon.
As the war in Gaza rages on, Israel is fighting a new war against Hezbollah, which began attacking Israel on October 8, and an escalating conflict with Iran - which backs both Hamas and Hezbollah - threatens to drag the region into a far more dangerous conflagration.
In Gaza, which is still buckling under the weight of the ongoing war, no formal commemorative event is planned.
James O'Brien begins his show on the anniversary of Hamas' attack by asking: 'Has anything has changed except the loss of life?'

I thought James would be smarter and more informed at this point. It's amusing that he includes "kkhammass" among those people that he thinks might oppose a two state solution. If a two state solution were to be genuinely offered with fair terms, on that very day they would likely cease their resistance. Because for Hamas, every act of resistance is a massive risk. They know they're utterly outmatched. They fight because they have no other choice. @@zlaw691 if you can’t see why using a phrase used by Israeli spokespersons and propagandists of comparing 7.10 (695 civilian deaths) to the holocaust (over 6,000,000 civilian deaths) for the sole purpose of justifying what has and is happening to Palestinians then I really can’t help you. So with that knowledge, this ‘truth’ is awfully stretched, and is pretty obvious why it’s been used in such a dangerous way that for a journalist like O’Brian to parrot is quite irresponsible.

But if you start telling people to ignore/don't say something you know is true then I think you're doing your own side of the argument a disservice. Regardless of larger context October 7th was a hugely significant day that not unreasonably gets compared to the September 11th attacks. It's an inconvenient truth for those of us, myself included, who feel Israel's government has handled this terribly and horrifically, much like the American government did after September 11. But you're suggestion that people shouldn't acknowledge something that's true because the other side uses that fact as propaganda doesn't seem helpful, in my opinion of course

It will end as all the previouse Arab conflicts have ended for 70 years, an Isreali military victory, at least in terms of the immediate situation followed by a political stalemate, followed by the Iranians etc establishing new groups, more attacks and then the next war. The way to break the said stalemate was perhaps on the table with the Abraham accords but Iran through its proxys saw to that. For me as long as Iran has its hands in this conflict, acting in its own self interest, I cannot see a way forward. Imagine if for a moment Iran was like Jordan, would we be in this position now?
