How is this Ninja 900R-powered custom trike even legal?!

What's up you guys?! So Adam's custom AMT3 Trike powered by a Kawasaki Ninja 900r motor has got to be the most insane vehicle I've ever driven on the street. It feels like it should be completely illegal, it's mind-bending fast, and it drives beautifully. The motorcycle engine revs to a staggering 12,000 RPM which, in a car, screams like an F1 car, I can assure you that. Adam built this custom tube frame, 3-wheeled vehicle at his machine shop in Vancouver, BC and has made it legal to drive on public roads. Enjoy!

In 60 years riding motorcycles I've had wasps, yellow jackets, bees and all kinds of stinging insects find their way up my long pants legs and do their stings on my legs, I wouldn't even consider wearing shorts in a vehicle like this for that reason. Those open shorts blowing up allow way too much access to the family jewels! LOL

@sebwiers1
@sebwiers1 6 жыл бұрын
It is, but compared to the wight of the stock ZX-9r, that's a lot. I'm guessing OP doesn't ride sport bikes, because a normal motorcycle rider would not be going on like they were gonna die; they are used to the speed and exposure. The trike is probably a lot safer actually, at least in terms of single vehicle accidents; it can spin out without pitching you, for example. On the other hand, it probably corners & brakes better than the motorcycle, due to lower center of gravity. That's gotta be fun, and maybe a bit scary.

Of all the reverse trikes on KZbin, this is by far my favorite !!! Simple, basic, lightweight, single seat. The only two things I would change would be a 1400 Kaw engine (HAAA!!! Why?.... From something out of your head transformed into metal, it's brilliant. I'm building something similar in Oz, doubt it will be as good as yours though, definitely not as light. We need a reverse here dammit, and we have the dreaded Australian Design Rules which now include the requirement to have the frame Xrayed and stress-crack tested. It looks as though your frame is mig welded, though I'm using tig, trying for neatness of welds to give the signatory engineer, who has to pass the thing, a warm fuzzy feeling, before it gets officially examined and approved for registration. I've a long and difficult road ahead, but as you alluded to in the commentary, persistence pays dividends. It'll be on youtube sometime next year so look out for it. Great job, thoroughly impressed. Don't concern yourself with the negative comments; most are jealous and many don't know their arses from their elbows and couldn't screw a nut on a bolt, let alone build something marvellous...

Apart from the dreaded ADR's, Laws vary from state to state, so even if you have something that is legal in NSW for example, you could get busted if you ride/drive it into SA (the Nanny State). The laws in South Australia are ludicrous. But our bees are lethal, so the comments about riding in shorts are valid!

How did you go bro? Did you get it past the rego nazis?
@logotrikes
@logotrikes 7 ай бұрын
@@davespencer1951 I built it to the point of looking for a suitable motorcycle rear end. Built the main framework, front suspension and steering, pedals mounted, seating sorted etc. Quite a lot of work went into it, but we went to the UK for a holiday and we bought a little open car to drive around in. I suggested to my wife that I would like one back in Oz. She said sure but I couldn't have both. So we bought a little 2 seater Tigra and I scrapped the trike idea before I'd put too much money into it. The time gone into it was irrelevant. Being retired I've got plenty of time for hammering and butchering... That was 5 years ago and we still have our little roller skate... Appreciate the enquiry dude....

"This is way lower to the ground than a motorcycle". You have soooo much to learn about motorcycles: i.pinimg.com/736x/c0/19/e0/c019e0c34ea65306a23377ba2029d985--shoulder-pads-motor-sport.jpg BTW, a Moto GP bike like that one has a power to weight ratio of about 1500 HP per tonne. So with the rider and everything it probably has about 3 times the hppt of this 3-wheeler. Go imagine...

Reminds me of the trihawk motorcycle conversions you could buy in the late 1970s. Always wanted one. Looked for years but never found one. One day while filling up my car at the gas station near the interstate I'll be Damned if one didn't pull in the get gas! Guy was real cool, let me look it over after I told HIM what it was which he was impressed by. He said everyone else asks what it is, where can I get one? After a long look I said " I already know the answer, but you know I have to ask." He smiled alittle and nodded. "Do you want to sell it?" The smile grew bigger, then "no" I've never seen another one. I did build a dune buggy using a volkswagen pan, a roll cage and powered by a 750 Yamaha three cylinder shaft drive engine. Mated the Yamaha output shaft to a VW clutch plate then slid it on the verge trans input. Engine sat "backwards" ( for a motorcycle) only issue was the output shaft turned backwards. I never got around to flipping the ring gear and carrier So we had 5 gears forward (reverse on the vw and five on the Yamaha) and 15 in reverse. (Three ranges on vw and five on the Yamaha)

I put a DKW 800cc triple two stroke engine tuned and balanced into a 1959 Frisky family 3 chassis in 1972, it did 120mph in a straight line. The difference was it had a fiberglass body shell. chassis was 2 inch tube steel rear wheel drive the same. My engine was old school the Kwaker engines are perfect well done.

There are ways... so I heard. There seem to be people taking the UK route. Once something like that was registered once in a EU country it´s a ton easier to get it road legal in Germany. But still... it´s probably not very cheap to take this route and most possibly not very easy. I´m also very sad, that there is no "cost effective" way to get somethig self build on the road.

Poor guy. He spent all this money on a chest mount Go-Pro, and everyone hates the camera angle it provides, but he has to continue using it since he spent the money on it

We've been using the head mount in our most recent 3 or 4 videos. The head mount doesn't work well over a helmet so it was this or nothing. Btw a chest mount is like $10 lol, so no, we don't have to keep using it if we don't want to

They’d tell you to go away and make changes in mine when you went to register it. The changes would be extensive. Nothing that would slow it down, just lights signals, and some safety features. It is cool though.
