British conspired with their agent Mustafa Kemal to abolish the actual Khilafah in 1924. In this context, it makes sense for them to install a pseudo/imposter Khaleefah. And it is also worth noting that in the same time Muslims of India were busy in Tehreek i Khilafat to protect their centuries old institution, the seat of Khilafah of the Prohpet Muhammad (PBUH).

Do you think that the worldly and nominal spiritual khilafat of Turks was to last forever when it has lost the true spirit of Islam and Khalifa became a worldly person/leader. The end of Turk Khilafat was the peak of Muslim downfall on world stage and Dajjal on its peak in power. So it was the right time when ALLAH almighty replaced it with 'Khilafat ila minhaje Nubuwwah' as promised by Prophet Muhammad PBUH.
