I visited Thailand for a couple of weeks, drove like 2,000 kms from Bangkok to Surat Thani to Karabi to Phuket. Amazingly, Islam had a rich presence especially in the south. Multiple mosques and women in scarf busy in their lives. Restaurants with Halal signs. even groceries ( Bread, chocolates, Ice cream etc) had halal signs, so it was lovely to visit and would highly recommend it

FYI South Thailand indigenous people are Malay Muslims. Malay states in South Thailand were occupied by Thailand since 1901. British gave independence to states in the Malay Peninsula in 1957. The Siamese still occupy the Malay states in the north of the peninsula till today.

The Malay ethnic Kingdoms never really had central power and tribute states like Siam did. The upper South of Thailand never gave tribute to any Malay state. The Nakhon Srithamaraj Kingdom was a vassal state of Ayuthaya; Ayuthaya granted them the authority to collect tribute and control the whole Southern Region if anything it would be Malay used to be long to Thailand not the other way around. Nakhon Srithamaraj were a Buddhist-majority Kingdom, but since each Kingdom in the region used marriage as a political tool and religion wasn't the primary concern back then, that's how Islam spread-not because it used to be a Malay state. Nakhon Srithamaraj was once an ancient Indian Kingdom named Tambralinga fouded by Chola Empire from the South India definitely not a Malay Kingdom. Malay or Indo arent born Muslim to begin with, Hindu was the first religion that Malay-Indo amcester belive ; the word Malaysia if it from Melayu then there was a Bhudhist Kingdom name Melayu Kingdom the centre was in Sumatra that is what longer than what you mentioned Thambralinga is older than both Ayuthaya and Langasuka (Pattani). It only had a period of time being part of the Srivijaya Empire, which arguably placed Nakhon Srithamaraj as the center of the Empire itself. Anyway, they were a Buddhist Kingdom; if anything, they were influenced by Javanese and Indian cultures, not Malay. The Southern part you're talking about consists of just three small provinces in the deep south of Thailand: Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwas. The South of Thailand consist of 14 provinces not 3 . Yala+Pattani+Narathiwas is smaller than one provice of Nakhon Srithamarat and it not event the largest province. Pattani used to be an Ancient Malay Kingdom named Langkasuka; their royal converted to Islam from bhudhist in less than 500 yrs ago bu they manage remain independent and did something unforgivable whicn attack Ayuthaya that why Thailand will never let them go, unlike Penang, Terengganu, and Kelantan, which used to be tribute states to Nakhon Srithamaraj and Siamese (Thai) people migrated to become the majority on these metioned state. But thanks to the British, most Siamese migrants returned to Siam, and Malay Muslims became the majority again and both Ayuthaya and these state never have any direct issue so they can go. However, there is still a sizable Buddhist Siamese community in the northern states of Malaysia nowadays.

I saw it ever since i graduated from university. Muslims always getting married,having children. But I saw many of my non Muslim colleagues are staying single, even when they reached 30,40 years old. Even with high costs of living, Muslims families are still having 4 to 5 kids. Higher income means you can afford more children.
