Well Said. You are 100% right. You took all the words from my mind. I can relate to everything you said. I was so insecure about my hair. I went natural when I turned 20 years old. I love my natural lose hair, but I still wasn't satisfied. When a friend introduced me to sister locks, I knew from that moment that sister locks was exactly what I was looking for. It was like my prayers was answered. Sister locks is more then locks for me.. it's goes beyond deeper than that. I can finally say that I absolutely love my nature hair. Sister Locks is a blessing for me. I got mines done in the beginning of November 2015.. and everyday I look in the middle..I just smile.

P.R Charles I was really encouraged by your talk today. I am on my second set of locks. I started my first journey in college. Maintained them myself for about three years. Went off to grad school and well...long story short I wasnt taking care of my self. Hair thinned- lost of a lot my locks. I cut them and began again a year later. I been on my new journey for a little over 2 year now. My heart was so encouraged and inspired to think about a "vision" of my hair and to document what that vision looks like for me. When you mentioned vision I thought about the number of people who have asked me this- "Your hair is so pretty but what are you going to do when you want to cut it?" That question has always irritated me so bad! Now I realize it is because they don't see my vision! And asking me about cutting my hair makes me feel like my lock journey is instantly being minimized. This style is not temporary- I HAVE A VISION!! And even if it was- am I not the same person whether I have a head full of locks or a short afro? Okay I should stop- but this is the conversation in my head that you sparked lady! Thank you!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, wisdom, and experience. You are correct they don't see your vision....and yes you are the same person. People are so steeped in a myopic form of beauty and minimize the deviation from the common familiar beauty standards. You are on the leading edge of natural, sexy, and lush for you. In all your glory, later do not be surprised that because of your courage to love, accept, and forge a way that is inline with you that those same people you will have inspired. Thank you. Namaste my friend. =)

The first time I saw sisterlocs must have been back maybe ten years ago. I was shopping in Marshalls when this women came in with them. And as a cosmetologist, I had seen most styles before but I had NEVER seen sister locs. I was so intrigued that I went up to her and started to ask questions about what they were and how much they cost etc. And I said one day I want those in my hair. Then like that they were off my radar. I dealt with my loose natural hair for 10 years. Then my daughter decided that she was going to get traditional locs. After she did that, sisterlocs came back to my mind. At this point I had started to see more women wearing them. So I decided to look on the website, I chose my consultant. Scheduled my consultation and two 1/2 months later I was sitting getting mine established. :) I knew right away that this was the "right style" for me at this time in my life. It just felt right!!! You are so right PR you can feel when something is good for you. :) And this goes for all aspects of your life as you state.

You're awesome! Now you're serving as an inspiration for so many others. I had my sisterlocks installed about 6 weeks ago after being a loose natural for 9.5 yrs and 2 yrs of researching locks which involved consumption of youtube videos, photos and blogs. I brought a picture of you and a few others to my installation to let my consultant know the look I was striving for. When I showed your photo she said "yeah, everyone brings in her photo". You're the only one she recognized instantly. I love your videos and overall philosophy. Thank you for being an inspiration to me.

Also, how much my life has changed due to embracing the many aspects of my existence. Embracing my externalities was just the beginning. Nothing we do to our hair is just a hairstyle. Relaxing is a lifestyle, weaving is a lifestyle, loc'ing is a lifestyle. Think I'll do a vid on that. Thank you for the inspiration +Lilsnukems! Thank you for the inspiring feedback and love! =)

Yes! I got "that feeling" when I saw MsButterfli's and Chescaleigh's loc videos on KZbin years ago. I haven't started pursuing my own version (micro locs) as yet because people around me don't understand the vision and I allowed them to make me feel like it wasn't for me. But the feeling never left. When the time is right, micro locs it will be! My hair is not enjoying constant manipulation at all.

Hello, I would like to thank you. Right now this minute you help me realize how much I want sister locks. I have been told by people who know me that I am wasting my money. This video brought tears to my eyes. I loc'd my hair back in 2002 and the response from family was not good. My parents hated it initially, but It grew on them. When you say others won't see your vision, I can relate. I had traditional palm rolled locs for 5 years and cut them off 10 years ago because of a bad situation I was going through. I read then that your hair holds energy so I decided that I was going to start over. I cut my locs off and moved out of state. I have been through so many hairstyles since and am not comfortable unless my hair is natural. I am looking forward to locking again just figuring out what kind. I love the look of sister locs and you are my hair crush.

+Javon Harris Awww thank you! Hair is deep and it's not deep depending on the experiencer. This just underscores that as we mature we have to be strong in our convictions to love and honor self. Family mean well but it can be detrimental when they don't see our vision. This is where we have to stand tall and push forward anyway. Agreed. It has gotten to the point that unless my hair is natural I am uncomfortable in myself. Thank you so much for sharing your story. Namaste. =)

I've been debating for the past 3yrs to get sisterlox . I've been researching loxs ,the different kinds of lox , dreadlocks, yarnlocs, mircolocs, freeform locs, braidloc, sisterloc, faux locs,the different styles of wearing loc , The cons and pros, the do' and don'ts of get locs. Anything that I could get my hands on about locs, but then I came across your vlogs subscribed.and now I'm truly inspired to get them . Because your hair is so beautiful to me and I know it is going to be a journey but I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make it. So I thank you for your inspiration.

I came across your video and when you held up the woman's picture from the Essence magazine, I had to comment. That magazine cover is what started me on my "natural hair" journey! I couldn't get over how healthy her hair looked! I loved it and she was so pretty. I wanted my hair to be healthy and natural like hers! I did "the big chop" in 1995 and decided to loc my hair in 2005. I love my natural hair and I still have that Essence magazine. I'm not at home or else I'd go see what the date was. I think it's from the 80s or early 90s. Thanks for sharing. It's amazing to think that that photo affected someone else the way it did me. 😊

My hair journey began when I seen classic length hair (where the butt and thing meet). I always wanted hair the length of half my height. I have fine strand and medium density hair. I did 3 big chops due to frustration. I am considering sisterlocks because I believe that is a guaranteed route to reach my length goal. Seeing your hair is inspiring to me and I hope one day that it is as long as yours.

I love your message of trusting in your beauty, and your vision of it is your own. I'm not into sisterlocs - I prefer thick locs - and that's the beauty of our hair: we can do what is best for us and appreciate the variety of it all. I appreciate your saying how as you were in your early stages, you needed to consume pictures to encourage you. I can relate. Nowadays, we are blessed with KZbin, but the need is the same! I devour all kinds of loc'd women's (and some men's) videos and they all feed my spirit as I progress in my own journey. Thank you, beautiful Queen, for all you do to inspire and encourage others!

Wow...this was so similar to my journey. it was a 1 pg Essence article in 1990 when I was 20 that started me on path. Back then my breadcrumb (love that!) were pictures, entertainers (Lauryn Hill, the girl with the low cut in Zhane....etc). It was like any form of the naturalness peeked my interest and confirmed to me I'd be natural even though I didn't know what form it would take. Eventually, I too got into books (Lonniece Bonner and Diane C Bailey) and then the internet (Motown Girl was a fav back then). It was the sisterhood on the early YT that gave me the final push. This yr is my 6th naturalversary and I am LOVE with where my journey led me.

+Tonia682 Wow. Essence was doing its thing. I have all of Lonniece Bonner books that's where I initially learned about hot oiling locs, I consumed Diane C Bailey. That's where I was first introduced to rose water and vegetable glycerine. KZbin I really didn't dabble with because I thought OMG what in the world? Life is so unpredictable. LOL Congratulations on the 6th year naturalversary. I am happy to hear of a well enjoyed journey. It is a wonderful thing. Thank you so much for sharing. Namaste. =)

Girlfriend that natural hair model from that calendar was first an Essence cover. When I received my subscription with that image every cell in my body cried Hallelujah. I wanted to be overjoyed and free to love my natural self. I got a vision looking at the bird's nest on Bob Marley head in the early 80's. I thought "I like the concept but why didn't he make it all the same size." Then in the summer of '93 Essence gave Dr Cornwell some shine and that was all I needed to see. My sister locks were installed March 2004. No regrets.

I am thinking about starting my own journey on growing locks not sure what size yet, Maybe dime size parts to start with. I've been looking and researching on the web as well as KZbin to find out the (Do's and Don'ts) And I have to say I watch many videos. While searching I'm glad I stumble upon your video. Your words of encouragement was fulfilling as you said in one of your videos ( Your vision) and no one else's. that lingered with in me for a while because I had a vision for myself but started to doubt myself due to people personal opinions of what they thought I shouldn't do or should do questions of what it looks like) are you ever going to take it out ,the best one is does your husband approve. Don't get me wrong my husband is happy so long as am happy. And when I thought of the idea of starting locks I became filled with glee just the thought of going natural excited me. I have had relax hair since I can remember maybe third grade was the last time I remember being natural. So I'm a little scared as well but more excited on starting my fresh journey to natural beauty. So thanks and I love your sister LOCKS !

Hey +Monifa Ona! Dime size sounds good. It's what you feel called to AND what works in the flow of what you have to work with. Your vision belongs to you. No one else. Other peoples' vision might be too limited. Let me tell you when I spoke about it to others before my loc cultivation date people who didn't see nor know my vision asked the same things. They didn't know I was aiming for accepting and liking me in the midst a pretty natural hair LIFESTYLE. All they were studying was how cute it would be and if it was mainstream. NOW umpteen years later. The questions asked now are - "OMG your hair is still growing?" , "OMG is that your real hair", "OMG I didn't know it would be like that" , "OMG I should have started when you did"....etc Which couldn't be the case because, remember their vision at the time for me wasn't in sync with my own vision. And it wasn't supposed to be. It's great you are excited for the excitement is the indication to move into your natural glory. It was calling you for a grand reason. Honor it. (you probably have this comment is mad late) The only person who is to fall head over heels in love with it is supposed to be...you. You're husband will love it even more because it frames your happiest you. Trust your beauty and own it. Thank for sharing 😃

+APZTakeitEZ 2014 You're quite welcomed. Yes you have to keep feeding your vision with the things that sparked your vision in the first place. Everyday in every way we are reminded of things that really doesn't endorse our uniquely beautiful beauty. Focus on the sparks and the vision will grow bigger and bigger and pull you toward it. You'll like being pulled. It's much easier than to push against the commonly accepted beauty process and standards. Thank you for sharing. =)

My stylist use beeswax in my hair to re-twist my dreadlocks. I noticed over the years it is thinning and breaking badly. She doesn't think it is to do with beeswax. I told her my hair is not responding with the minerals oil sulphate, silicone, petroleum products. I'm starting to use Shea moisture retention shampoo. My hair loves it. leaves my hair super soft. PLEASE PLEASE advise me what to use for re-twist my locs. I don't want to lose any more hair she has already cut it to take the weight of. Helppppppp......

+sandy 123 Hi Sandy. I am sorry I am not of expertise to advice anyone on hair loss. Usually advice people to seek professional help. A dermatologist AND a natural hair (hair loss and growth expert) Cornrows and company in washington D.C. When I was experiencing severe hair breakage I sought professional help from a dermatologist and Cornrows and Company (they have online and phone consultations also). Hope this helps. =)

Just came across ur channel and ur locs are so amazing, well done! So sorry if this is stupid but Ive always wondered what sister locs are? does it mean they are thinner than regular locs? xx
@PRCharles
@PRCharles 8 жыл бұрын
+Yolanda G Yes! They are thinner than the traditional larger locs. The number of Locs can be anywhere from 350+. They are interlocked and are tiny (thin) style-able locs. They are referred to as designer locs. Sisterlocks.com goes into more detail. Hope this helps. Happy researching =)

Hi! my sister locks hair pattern is 4c. Is the 4c hair pattern different from the number 4 pattern?
@PRCharles
@PRCharles 8 жыл бұрын
+Karasi Adjoa didn't know there was a "4c" sisterlocks pattern. I'm assuming it is because it's a 4c and not a 4. LOL I'm being silly. Whose system are you using? Different locking systems may have different names for their locking patterns or stitches. Hope this helps. Thanks for sharing. =)

+Karasi Adjoa Maybe...or is it that you have 4c hair and amongst the SL patterns the one used is for your hair texture type. So it gets the title 4c. I don't know. LOL have a great day. =)
