I was lucky enough to catch this stream. In between series MaxPax was just chatting with viewers, super cool to see his take on things. He did say Clem was both his least and most favorite player to play against (though it felt like he leaned towards hating it lol) also said he doesn’t really get inspiration from other Protoss anymore which makes sense considering his games feel unique.

Cool to see how one of the pro's plays from their own camera pov on this one. Can't believe clem was caught so flat footed by that DT rush. Even as someone who things Protoss is way underbalanced, I felt bad for him on that one. I think max is probably the best protoss player in the tourneys now, better than hero Imho for sure. Though I really like what Nightmare has been doing lately and hope to see more of him in the future.

It’s crazy the difference between Clem, hero, maxpax, serral and reynor first person streams vs even other pro gamers. I’m sure there are others that play confusingly fast, but haven’t seen them stream a lot.

i did my 1/1364 likes job. edit* A few mins in i really like these perspective videos. As a measly NA diamond 2-3 all races i need this observation of higher level players for mechanics. edit2* I have played this game since it came out i never even knew about that mining micro. Hahaha. edit3* 20:24 ok that was next level. If you play the game you know it was about the AI pathing for the reaper. before it's walled off it will automatically go that way but as soon as it's walled he get's flanked. That little move made me smirk haha.

I'm now convinced the biggest design mistake Blizzard made with SC2 is the disruptor. See - the Collossi is such a cool unit! Perfectly made for slaughtering terran bioballs, weak against most anything else, and extremely vulnerable to several things, most notably vikings. This is good RTS design! Powerful unit with clear strengths and obvious counters. However, since WoL Terrans have gotten far better at micro, using medivacs, and having vikings in the army, so Collossi are no longer a huge threat to the bioball past the early game. So Blizzard understandably was like 'hm we need to give protoss an answer to terran bio' except they already had one it was the collossi! What protoss needed was a robo/gateway unit that actually counters vikings - there's no unit in all of protoss' armada that is cost-effective against vikings, so protoss have been increasingly reliant on the giant gambling wheel that is disruptors :( And everyone loses

It's not just about micro. Before LotV, Colossi did did the damage they now do to light units to *all* units. This made them... considerably scarier. That's why they have the weakness to AA - because the WoL/HotS colossus really was powerful enough to need it. Colossi got nerfed when the disruptor was released. Also, Phoenix vs. Viking actually comes out fine for the phoenix in a vacuum. The issue is that Vikings tend to have ground support, whereas that's a lot harder for P to provide.

@@TriangleChloros Yeah if the Colossi was the old-school massive damage to everything this would be a different story. i think the focus on anti-light units was a good change, I do think it was the right decision - but without giving protoss an answer to vikings the whole faction is so pathetically weak in any heads up fight Phoenix vs Viking is about even yeah. But that still means there's no actual counter to vikings in the protoss arsenal - pheonixes can do okay but that's not an actual counter

@@yugonostalgia8961 I honestly disagree, mostly because of the second M in MMM, Marauders. Colossi can't trade well against marauders, which the Terran was likely going to be building anyway. It's not great vs. ghosts, either. So it ends up being an expensive, relatively fragile T3 unit that is *only* good at killing T1 marines (in TvP). Forcing the colossus to specifically counter bioballs so T has to hit its weaknesses with something like vikings is a good idea... But only if it *actually* counters bioballs. Clear strengths and weaknesses only really works if the strengths justify the weaknesses. And IMO being a hard counter to one specific basic unit doesn't really justify all the weaknesses colossi have to put up with.

@@TriangleChloros Well you're not wrong about Ghosts, they are the best unit in the game for a reason. But yeah, Marauders are good against collossi, sure, but not so good against 4 collossi with even a handful of zealots to back them up. If there were no vikings, Colossi still are quite decent when massed even against marauders*. Which is why i think Protoss desperately needs a ground-to-air unit capable of protecting colossi from vikings, Would keep all unit's strengths the same but allow for a better gameplay & strategy loop *Disruptors are good for nothing in particular because they're the unwelcome predatory casino barging in to a strategy game

MaxPax case is pretty interesting, mechanically and so on he is legit, he is not AI, it's even hard to see any maphack-like moves. But he is waisting hunders of thousands of dollars to not competing in offline events, so this is really deep problem. It's still more likely that he is using some external macro commands (i did this, i programmed some actions like Stalker micro, worker micro, 100% accurate kiting for every unit and so on - so it works and you can do this everywhere and you can't tell that somebody using this). If it's not macro commands or production tab from maphack then he is just pretty dumb. He is literally top 1 protoss rn, like come on. Only 1 reasonable reason is that he is cheating in some way like there macro commands. There are other explanations but they are not rational. Which doesn't mean that it's not true, just unlikely. We all are very often not rational but not in this particular case. But i also can't really see usage of macro keys so if he is doing this sometimes then these scripts are top quality. So it's also not really a good explanation. It's all just f weird.

Maybe he just doesn't want to reveal his identity? If he just didn't want to play offline tournaments, there would be no reason to go as far as hiding his face and even his voice on streams... Maybe he is a girl? As unlikely, it is the only reason i can think of to hide his voice in particular... Anyways, i think blizzard knows his identity anyways, it's just the public that is confused. Or he can't participate in offlane tournaments becouse he is studying and traveling would be a huge issue? I suppose there are many reasons...

I’m an SC fan, have been since day one. That being said, clicking on the same things over and over is not impressive to me. Imo I think about 1/3 or less of the pro’s apm is actually doing something constructive other than killing your mouse and/or making a number on the screen go up.

If you get in a habit of constantly always moving your mouse, always pressing the next key always moving nonstop. When you actually need to be quick, you will already be warmed up and ready to go
