I was sent out on my first solo route Saturday and thought it was gonna be a short route from what I was told to get me acclimated! No sir! I got screwed with 600+ cases and 14 stops! And guess what! My scanner battery went dead and the truck charger was broke! So I had to do it the old school way and count, read, and make sure these custos got everything they ordered! I was only supposed to be out for 8 to 12 hours and ended up being out for 16!!! I got played! Guys got done at noon and I was told no one could come help me! I'm so pissed and want to call it quits but I'm not a quitter! Imma give em one more chance to do me right! If they try to play me again imma laugh and leave! This job ain't as easy as you make it look! Mind you I only been training 3 weeks and one of those weeks my trainier didn't have a scanner and all I did was all the hard work runnin! So I didn't learn nothing much but to be his helper! The best part tho about this job is the money! If you want to make what they say u can make then be prepared to be dogged and worked all day! The job itself ain't that hard if you can go at your own pace and got a dedicated route and know where to park but for new guys, we gotta find the places , survey em to see where to safely park and that ain't easy! I almost got stuck a couple times but managed to get out ok! So if anybody thinks they are goin here to get easy money I bet you won't think it's easy after your first time out! Unless the supervisor plays favoritism and gives his homeboy a route with 400 boxes and 10 stops and sets u up for failure with almost 700 boxes and your backtracking all day and jumping from city to city . U literally got stops next to each other but will get a stop 2 cities away and have to come back to stops where u was just at. Unless you know exactly where your goin and skip that stop and do the ones next to each other since your there! I didn't know we were aloud to do that until my super called me and told me to skip stop 11 and do it after 14! But whatever! I'm just sayin it ain't easy as a new guy who has no experience in trucking let alone food service! I had no right being out there yet on my own but I went and couldn't finish my last 2 after 16 hours! Got up at 2am to be there by 4 and got home at 8pm! Now if and I was t asked if I was ready! I was told that this is how it is! The funny thing is one of the same guys I started with said he had the same 3 weeks of training but had no driving in at all! So he got to team up with another guy we started with and they got to work with each other and got there route done! Some punk favoritism type crap! If I dont get a manageable route on next Saturday then I'm ghost on em! I didn't get my cdl to be a glorified shipted driver! I only took the job because I am new at it and not much places are hiring new grads! We are expendable to this company even tho they talk like they care! Guys drop like flies around here! I wonder why!

Man, I wish they gave us the time to be sorting the trailer out like that out here at Sysco in Portland, Or!!! I mean, everyone gets things sorted as the day goes on, but definitely not like that first thing because on you just don’t have the space for sorting big time till mid day ish or later. first thing in the morning Pretty much if I have to wait around for 10 plus min for a customer who doesn’t have their shit together my day goes down hill fast due to how little time they will give you sometimes on top of whacky routing. They also be basically punishing people if you get done to fast especially if you are newer! . If they give you lets say 750 wit 10 stops and you kill it and finish a hour or more early, you best believe the next week you’ll be going out with trailers with cases counts in the 800’s and more stops.

Are you required to physically load the truck (not driving a forklift, but physically wheel the boxes up and stack them on the pallets) in addition to unloading them at your stops? I’m considering applying at one of the south GA terminals, but I don’t want to mess up my body. I accept that it’s physically demanding, and I don’t mind getting both a cardio and muscular workout, but wearing out my bones and joints, and straining my back terrifies me. I’m age 36 but in decent health for my age. But there’s no need for me to apply just to be forced to quit due to the potential toll on the body.

For me the process took roughly 2 weeks from a brief phone interview, real interview & drive test and background check shit. We did one week of orientation and I did 3 weeks with a training doing routes by the first few days of the 3rd week I didn’t really need the trainer tho. They normally try to do 4 weeks of training, but if you are doing good it is done sooner.
