NPS /Solovair made Doc Marten boots from 1950ish till 1990ish, the ones that made DM popular. After DM stopped contracting NPS, NPS continued making boots in the original manner of the DMs. And to this day, they still do under the Brand name Solovair. All Solovairs are hand created in England though whilst DM has outsourced more than 90% of their sold boots to asian factories. I hope that solves your confusion.

NPS / Solovair was not the 'original manufacturer' of DocMartens. They just made the soles. The leather work was done by R. Griggs who got the license to make the boot from Klaus Maertens. R. Griggs however could not make the soles so they looked for a company which could make the soles for the boot. That was NPS. 1993 this license ended. After that, R. Griggs made the soles themselves, in house. They invented the brand 'AirWair'. Tags on boots: - before 1993 'with cushion soles' and 'Dr. Martens' - from 1993 on 'with bouncing soles' and 'AirWair'. Clearly the shape of the Solovair Derby boot differs from the shape of a Doc Martens boot. And that's because they use different lasts. So no...NPS was not the original manufacturer of the Doc Martens boot. They just did the soles. All the leatherwork was done by the original license holder to make the boot - R. Griggs. Just my 2 cents.

IF they were made like this they would be worth the cost but there not, a small number { compared to what they sell } might be made this way but the ones you and I get are mass produced in China This is marketing to make you think what you get is special. I love them but some pairs are £160, just shoes not the complex "Astronauts"

Yes they are. The "Made in England" are just more exspensive beacause they are a bit better bulit quality.

@@sunepedersen7532 no the original is made in England. The China and Vietnam or basically the brands knock off of the made in England. They didn’t start making all the other design boots until like the 90’s early 2000’s. I had a pair of Thailand and China boots and they both went into the garbage after six month use out of them.

@@sunepedersen7532 yes they moved their production to China Thailand and Vietnam to mass produce cheap shoes. I wore a made in Thailand boots for six months straight bc that was my only pair of boots and they had a split in the leather where the toe creases were and on the side where it creases at ur ankle and I paid over 100$ for that, what original they are. Then I got made in China pair and Same thing happened around the same time actually I think it got destroyed faster than the first pair.

@@Crash.7434 I very much agree that the made in England are way better quality. I have 2 pairs made in England, and 2 pairs made in China, and yes there is a pretty big difference between the two. But just because they are made in China does not make them less original😀

I bought boots for my husband as a wedding anniversary present less than a year ago. the sole have split. Dr martens are ignoring my emails. We have 8 pairs. I can't love them any more.Sick of it. They're a disgusting company. They just take your money and no responsibility.
