I love the quiet beauty of this. The automation speaks for itself, with neither narrator nor music added. Just the pure essence of automatic manufacturing. It's almost poetic.

I can only imagine the talent of the engineers and the entire staff; from engineering the machines that create to the components of the MINI to the actual people on the factory floor assembling the particulars. This, to me, is a work of art.
I'm more focus on the machines building the mini then I am on how the mini is built.

WOW ! I have never watched the complete or almost complete process of the creation and assembly. It was almost scary with all the robots doing their thing. The way they move is almost like a detailed choreographed dance. I know that may think that robots have taken the jobs away. They have created many more jobs in designing, creating, producing, and programming these marvels. This is great. It is almost like watching Transformers create the car. Thanks

I remember that every time we bought a new car, we would carry a little notepad for the first couple of weeks to write down all the glitches so we could get them all fixed at once. Sorry, but the machines are more precise, they don't come to work hung over, they don't get distracted, and the result is a better car. I am sure many will disagree. Just my opinion. Oh, and PS.....I just bought a brand new Mini, which I have wanted for years. I am over the moon happy with it.

It's necessary to maintain the highest output possible while maintaining quality and consistency. It's also cost effective for the manufacturer. Less man power needed which keeps profits higher. Yes, I work at a similar production plant. The numbers don't lie.
@johncgibson47209 жыл бұрын
j2uazon83 Is each one of those robot arms worth more than a worker's annual salary? I am guessing yes. The human workers don't look worth much in the factory. Maybe mopping the floor is important. Maybe the programmers and robot makers are worth something, but not the workers on the floor.
@j2uazon839 жыл бұрын
John C G They robots eventually pay them selves in the future. They can make that back within a year. After that, you don't have to buy another robot, but workers still need pay. That's why automated production lines are more cost effective. Plus you can yield a higher output. Duh!! Don't you know anything about how mass production works?

Idk about everyone else but I found it incredible how everything works so fluid when it comes to building a car. And it only takes but so little time to build it from nothing to a fully functioning automobile that someone is going to cherish. Although it did make me wonder how price comes about if everything is just parts and robots. No love.

All that automation and they can't make a CVT automatic transmission worth a damn. What you are seeing is part of the reason these cars have such a low reliability rating, there's so much technology invested in the head end tooling. Acknowledging any production or design errors would cause serious delays for redesign then retooling and reprogramming all the robots, all meaning big $$$, so cars are getting built with alot of inherent flaws like the CVT fiasco that no one is willing to fix it because it would mean admitting they have a flawed design process.
@KlunkerRider10 жыл бұрын
Boss Buse its based on the reported statistical complaints and repairs per sources like Consumer Reports plus the general comments on consumer sites. The most common complaint is the CVT tranny going wonky and BMW not honoring the warranty. As I said when it goes bad there's apparently no fix, its a replacement job, and that's very expensive. The problem is that its a crap shoot whether you got a good tranny or not. Suffice to say the manual tranny versions are fine and going strong. I've never liked the concept of the CVT, its simple in concept but in reality incredibly complex and very prone to something minor quickly escalating into a major failure. Sort of like a jet engine, but a loose nut in the intake and a catastrophic cascade of failure follows.
@lovegames989210 жыл бұрын
not in Japan
@KlunkerRider10 жыл бұрын
Lovegames+ Even Honda and Toyota have had issues with their cars, when you produce cars by the millions around the world, there's always going to be some problems, its just statistical, BMWs is a design issue, hopefully resolved in the latest versions which have been apparently upgraded, we'll see, but in terms of general quality, yes, Japanese robots do seam to be better than the German robots.

Over-specialization are for robots not humans. Humans are supposed to create values and robots make them possible for human consumption and enjoyment. We live in an upside-down world where specialization makes wealth creation difficult to achieve... which also leads to unbearable boredom and stagnation. If our jobs are replaced by robots, it's about time and we should rejoice. It gives us a chance to create something of value to share to the world and break loose from our tunnel visions. It also eliminates envy on those who we think are far better than we are, because they courageously took one step above the ordinary. Breaking out of specialization is immensely liberating. It is somewhat like Traditional Man evolving into Advanced Man. The attitude needed to break out of specialization is "I will do it no matter how tough the task is-even if I currently do not know how to do it." By holding such an effort-based attitude, anyone can break out of the specialization trap. If we think robots are smarter and perfect than we are... obviously, the humans (like us) who built them should take the credit for creating those wonderful helpers.
