I worked the assembly line at GM building Cadillacs in the early 70s. It was a very hot and sweaty way to work. Nothing like these workers.

A couple of years after I got my 2007 MINI Cooper S I went on a business trip to Denmark and on the way back to the states I stopped in England for a few days for the sole purpose of an Oxford plant tour. Definitely a highlight of the trip. It was just me and a couple from Germany so the tour guide was able to show us a little more and take us a little closer to the action. Very cool fellow and enjoyed every minute of seeing how our MINIs are made.

I’m more of a sports car type of person but I respect the mini for a lot of reasons, even thou it’s cheap it kind of looks exotic and luxurious in a way, and it’s logo🤌. And not to mention it’s reliablity and comfort inside, and not to mention how quiet it is inside, ohhh the quietness.

Until six minutes in, I was saddened that there were no humans involved. It's both amazing and frightening to see so many robots taking jobs away from people. Regardless, it was a wonderful look into how our beloved Mini is built. Cheers.

A lot of the process is now machined done to avoid margins of error and make it quicker. Only high-end cars have more human build process. Glad you enjoyed the video

To have robot automation in plants, they definitely have more skilled workers for all the monitoring, changes and maintainence. The automation gives new job opportunity as robot services, schedule maintainence, Network control, and lots of new sort more high skill workers. Thats good for the country.

When I first started at plant Oxford in Body in white I was on the finish line. I believe there were around 75 people. Co2 welding, panel setting, gas welding, hanging tailgates and the other outer surface panels across 3 finish tracks . There are now 6 people on one track. It's really hard to see people get moved to other areas or building when you've worked together for a while but it's also really interesting to see how robots have made the jobs much more precise with less and less mistakes.

@4Kandlez Жыл бұрын
The robots were doing a great job, the humans not so much, they looked uninterested in what they were doing. Why are they all wearing different clothing, does Mini not provide them with official work clothing? It looks very unprofessional, and you don't hear music blasting out in a German or Japanese car factory, it's very distracting. The guy checking the panel gaps by eye was a highlight though.
@Jcwadventures Жыл бұрын
I don't think this was filmed on the same point of timeframe. Official clothing is provided but I think this varies role to role

I've worked at Plant Oxford since 2002 and we do have uniforms now. The orange at the point of the video was for the Lead Associate who runs the areas (my role) the few people you saw feeling the body over are actually like that in person lol Our uniforms all have our names on so even strangers can feel at home as they already know our names before we've opened our mouths
