Great analysis Steve on probably the best exponent of a "Text book" technique. One good point to note on how flat Neil keeps his action through his feathers, backswing and final delivery is to notice his cue stays in contact with his chin at all times throught his action. Also i think that his cue is brushing his chin with the same amount of pressure all the way from address to delivery as this would be further reassurance for him that he is keeping his cue flat and on a level plane and not creating a seesaw element in his action as he would feel the extra pressure on his chin that a seesaw type action would create. Robertson is mesmerizing to watch when he's at his best. Keep the great videos coming butty👍👍

So Neil, and many others, does NOT use a pendulum stroke but instead the dead level piston stroke. About time all the other 'pendulum stroke pushers' watched this video . . . and then they could stop mindlessly going along with the crowd of other so-called gurus and giving us wrong advice. Talk about sheeple!

Neil's action is a great example of the deltoid muscle staying still through the shot, it's even more prominent on a deep screw shot.

I’ve studied different techniques carefully but I missed the bit about the hand sliding through on the line of aim . Like you said very little elbow drop as is Judd trump and unlike O’Sullivan and others . One particular uniqueness is John Higgins, he has a shorter bridge than most and on his final backswing his elbow drops ( dips? ) more than most and more than on delivery. Studying different techniques is fascinating, more please .

Nice to see videos of the professionals reinforcing your video training. I think Neil Robertson will win after a close match.

Further, I request you to make videos on the stance of various professionals as I think stance supports overall cue action. Sometimes, we play unexpectedly well, probably due to right and supportive stance.

Excellent analysis. I'd never even thought of the sliding hand part. However, would've been curious to see the cue line during the follow through because the cue does seem to dip a little there. Surely it would have to, in order to avoid the tip going into the cloth?

He is 100% textbook. Which is harder than it sounds. I think Neil has been off his game so far. But when he settles into the game properly he will come to life and should beat Hawkins. Barry is a solid player but Robertson is elite

I notice that at address his wrist is cocked forward as opposed to hanging neutral. What does that do? Does it aid in keeping the motion flat?

This is your 2nd video, which is under my consideration, in which you properly analyzed the elbow drop scenario. This help me a lot. Oh I’ve noticed Judd Trump signing autographs right handed , is he a natural right hander ? Also the use of the rest right handed by some southpaws is common enough but the I’ve never seen a right hander using the rest left handed . Any thoughts on that , please .

Fantastic commentary on the cue action, thanks a lot. I have a quick question, how come the cue tip does not decent to the cloth? Was it because Neil was not doing a deep screw which he would strike the cue ball lower?
@BartonSnooker2 жыл бұрын
Hi. Thanks and great question. It's really just because when Neil's hand hits his chest and comes to a stop, the cue is just touching the cloth at this point and no further down. Most players' tips end up touching the cloth after delivery, but don't go any deeper than that 👍
@andysingletonefc2 жыл бұрын
would you say his cue was slightly brushing his chest,he's also right eye dominant ! was also looking at the grip on the back cam angle and at one point you can see the index and thumb holding whilst the others have unfurled !

Hi I'm curious to know what are his eyes on when he slides into the shot ...is it the object bal,l cue ball or somewhere in between .. thanks
@BartonSnooker2 жыл бұрын
I personally look at the cue ball as I slide into the shot to make sure I get down to the correct point.
@rebbeshort2 жыл бұрын
I guess the "cue to the chest" is the decider of how much follow through the cue has past the contact point of the cue ball?
@LIVERNIL7232 жыл бұрын
I'm on a more of a jury on this one. I'm not an expert, but watched the game a lifetime. It's Neil's 'Cue Action' that's been dissected. We've not visualized any other player in comparison or what a Cue Action should be about as a 'Template'. Comprehensively, I really cannot see such Distinction. Forgive me if I am naive.

Hi Steve Thanks for the videos! Do you have any advice on how to properly correct the alignment of the back elbow? Recently I’ve noticed that sometime my back elbow is pointing away from my body and sometimes it’s straight behind my head as it should be. Is there a way to train the back elbow to stay in line with the cue? Thanks again for the great videos.

Interesting to see how short his follow through is, compared to what is considered to be “common” length, especially when you look how far Jack Lisowski’s cue ends up on delivery. Can you share some insights on this re. the relevance of how far you need to follow through and does that even matter?
@BartonSnooker2 жыл бұрын
As long as you have 2-3 inches of follow through that should be ok in most cases. Neil has no elbow drop, whereas Jack Lisowski does - increasing Jack's follow-through.
@zimske2 жыл бұрын
@@BartonSnooker thank you, Steve. At the club today I noticed this detail during my practice, and was a bit concerned - all the club pundits saying you have to go at least half the bridges length - but seeing this analysis and realising Robertson does wonders with such a short-ish follow through was very helpful and came at the best possible moment.

After watching Mike Massey's deep screw/draw shots I too was surprised to see that his follow through was only about 3", just like Neil's.

Explain please. Curious thats all.
@cueball58582 жыл бұрын
Balil Khan that is Incorrect. Yes he aligned his 'set position' closely on the line of aim when he put his fingers on the cloth but he then FINE TUNED IT when he slid his hand forwards and made his bridge. That was the whole point of the video, to counteract the many 'gurus' who tell us to aim while standing then walk to the table and put our bridge down on the line of aim immediately. This info is gold!
