I took a tour of the liberty ship John Brown that included a short run out to sea...visited the engine room while underway...triple expansion 3 cylinder steam engine...one of the best things I ever done. My father served on Liberty ships crossing the Atlantic during WW2. 👍

I went to London in 2007 just to see this engine, plus a few others. Usually I take lots of pictures, but the sight of this engine under steam put me into a trance. Very nice job of showing the valve gear, a subject near to my heart, although I use Marshall-Bremme gear on my sidewheel steamboat.

Very informative. Not just stuff running without explanation.

I think I need to fit Corliss valves to my model beam engine, If I could control the cut off she would use a lot less steam, then there might be a chance to running as a proper steam engine without have such a huge boiler,,,, but she would obviously need a re-build to get rid of the parts that would melt. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHXUgZyGj7mXf9k

@fredrosse Thanks for your post and congratulations to your boat - a youtube video would be quite fine, as it's not easy to find Marshall-Bremme gear on active ships in Europe. But one of my next projects will be an Elbe steamer with Klug gear, similar to yours. I've just finished last year a Joy-valve-gear video of Austrian paddlewheeler 'Schoenbrunn', if you are interested in, you can watch it on my channel. Greetings from Austria and Blue Danube river!
