What did you think of Gilas performance vs Italy at the 2019 FIBA World Cup?
@edmichaelalobog88865 жыл бұрын
Eric Menk I would agree with you. The Philippines is running their offense like NBA teams back in the early 2000s LOL. Gamestyle was the major difference. I’m realling hoping that throughout the next couple of years Philippine basketball will revolutionize and take a step further. The country is undoubtedly talented, but the mindset of how a team should play isn’t right yet.

This video shows the inferior quality of Pinoy Basketball in an international tournament.. I'm still supporting Gilas but next game they should play more cohesiveness, fire and more passing..

Got no other way to describe but atrocious... But the most apparent thing is the lethargic performance of BLATCHE its so bad its contagious. Personally i want to naturalizee Eugene phelps just so we have a contingency in future of gilas. Is it possible coach? Will u consider phelps for alab next abl?
@TheEMenk305 жыл бұрын
MarkeusTV hd yes. We considered him last year as well, but it didn’t work out...

Would be great if we can naturalized Eugene if he's willing. Mccollough seems very interested tho. I'd still prefer multiple naturalized center for gilas at any given time. So far better 1st half performance by gilas squad vs serbia 👍👍super tough matchup

I still cannot forget your interview with what coach Tab Baldwin said about Philippine basketball culture improvements into our mindset from street ball to international level basketball! That opinion of coach tab, should resonate to our SBP for real active improvements, but then again too many expert cooks spoils the broth! Does it take a million frustrations to Open their mind into it.

I agree with you Erick as made very good observations. I believe our Gilas players are talented. It also started with a not so good starting 5 players. I can just imagine if the starters will be Blatche, Fajardo, Perez, Bolick, Ravena. It's also more of having a better coach like Time Cone who has an effective system. The coach did not call time-out when it's needed to stop the momentum of the other team and re-organize with their offense (plays) and defense. Most of the other teams prepared for a longer time or several months and play with each other for years. Ravena, Bolick and Perez displayed a lot of courage and wisely made good shots. Win or lose, I'm still hoping Gilas will bounce back and learn from it.

Hey Eric, i just wanna say u did a great job breaking down this unlike sports5 commentators commentating the game that are so bias, playing safe are most of their are not on the intellectual part of the game. Moving on your absolutely right Gabe is a non shooter, i think too thats hes so overrated those dunks he made on 2014 world cup are just fluke and style points doesnt win games so lets move on from that but im not taking away the years he has served the country. If he plays like Danny Green who can play defense and shoot 3's confidently on a high precntage then our team has a chance but hes not. Comes 2023 we need 2 way player 6'4 to 6'5 athletic and can play both ends on the floor. Overall theres a big difference on the 2 teams on the way they play the game. Italy i think is just an upgrade of Korea much taller and athletic, alot of ball movement player movement everybody on the same page unbelievable how they swing the ball from left to right making the extra pass and the defense work a little bit and guessing. To our offense more like USA basketball freeflowing high ball dribble hand off one to two passes then shoot and some players never touch the ball which causes the player to lose his rhythm on the game coz as a fan and a player too i know that. right now i end comment here coz i got to go Majorpain!

Well analyzed. At this first, my thoughts was really because Italy was hot, but after hearing your thoughts, I had to agree. We really lack the system to play in the international scene.

The Philippine basketball hasnt change until now. 1.Dribble first before passing. 2.Point guards are looking to shoot not to pass 3.Too much one on one plays 4.No outside shooting.Need more practice 5.Defense is too weak .they simply raise their hands when depending a shooter instead of blocking it or disrupting the shot European play 1.Pick and Roll and three point shot 2. Everyone in the team can shoot anywhere. 3.They develop their shot thru passing not one on one. 4. They are quick to defend.

One more thing..Our guards are too short for international tournament.
@ivandellosa91435 жыл бұрын
European teams runs a system over and over again, plus you have tons of player with elite talents that makes der system so easy to execute. Its about moving the ball make the opponent guessing and take a high percentage shots(3's). As u mention sir erik bad spacing and terrible ball movement. Gilas offence ISO, standing, and waiting, dribble drive kickout to a non shooter who again dribble drive and lopost. People wer asking y coach yeng did not call a time-out, the reason is you have to minimize Timeout coz in fiba its all youve got its carry over to second half. Unlike pba or nba you can call 3 to 4 time out every quarter. Overall, we have a system similar to pba plays which does not applicable to compete with high level compitition such as FIBA WORLD CUP and OLYMPICS. However, im still proud of the players representing our country

Sir I would also like point out is that as to why the coaches did'nt even call a time out after Italy leads the gilas by as much as 10 points during the quarter it is obvius to me that the first five players were really nervous during the game and should have tried to cool them down. The coach should have also cycled some of his players to let them remind of their purpose instead of playing a gamble. As you have mentioned sir there was also too much of a hero ball mentality and the locals depended on blatche far too much credits though to jmf,bolick, and perez for showing a warrior mentality but with only 3 players playing truly to win the team is doomed to fail. Sorry for this long rant but the game was really disappointing regardless of many setbacks during their practice and lack of support by the establishment they should at least showed a good fight but from what I saw again with only 3 players playing ball then all the sacrifices will be all for naught. Hopefully our basketball culture will change just you,coach tab and many others hope for this country.

PH team was destroyed because the team didn't have enough practice and training... the 2014 team had the luxury of training for 4 months, going to US (Miami) to begin their training, then had pocket tournaments in France and Spain, matching up against France, Ukraine, Australia, Dominican, and Egypt.. plus the fact that they already played last year as a team, with only 2 players changed (Douthit and Fonacier for Blatche and Lee).. so all in all they had a year of playing together.. Chemistry was a non-issue.. the current team was just awfully un-prepared.. no communication on offense and defense.. not knowing where to position and rotate and run their plays as a team.. guiao unable to enforce his system due to lack of preparation and chemistry.. just plain pick-up 5on5 game..i did not expect PH to win, but at least put up a fight, like how 2014 team played against Croatia, Argentina, and Puerto Rico.. I think the PBA organization is to blame.. not Yeng Guiao, not the players selected, not the players who declined to suit up... it's the PBA. just my opinion
@andersongo37414 жыл бұрын
Guiao is a great coach, just not enough time for preparation, the bad thing is how the management handle the team, like those cheesy advertisement and why name the team gilas, our countrys name is Philippines, I know other country has alias too like dream team or Australian boomers but I seldom hear the word Philippines.

I feel really embarrassed and ashamed to what this this current crop of Gilas played against Italy this is probably the weakest Gilas ever assembled. Not so skilled worst did not even compete except for those two rookies and Junmar.
