Snap On is world class for a reason. The quality and performance is there. The ratchets are tested to 250 ft lbs. Try that with another brand and see what you get. They actually don’t fail until the 270-280 range. If you want super car performance, why expect domestic car pricing? Snap on tool materials are also much more expensive than their competitors. That’s why they can make things like thinner walled sockets than their competitors. It’s the materials that make them hold up so well. The fit and design is in the engineering of those materials. Snap On is the best in the world. And they’ll never cater to the budget tool crowd because that’s not what they make. Just like Ferrari doesn’t sell a budget line of cars either.

My snap on dealer got cocky one day while repairing another one of mine and said " you obviously are using pipes on these ratchets to break bolts loose, would you like to buy a breaker bar?" I told him no, for the outrageous prices i paid for those ratchets they're all the breaker bars i will ever need for the rest of my life!"

"Cost me 2000$" Snap-on boxes have always been high, even for top quality. Since my box sat in the garage & didn't get hard use, I stuck with cheaper Craftsman stuff, tho I do have a ten-drawer Snap-on top box I found at a yard sale for $35 -- used hard, but functions perfectly. I hate to say it, but I can remember when Snap-on tools were only about 10% over Craftsman & Powr-Kraft, otherwise I wouldn't have bought them. Something happened after the 60s, obviously..

For those that their Pittsburgh Pro is the exact same thing as SnapOn, you're only paying half attention. I have a Pittsburgh Pro 72 tooth 3/8" Drive Grip ratchet and a SnapOn FH80. From a short distance you'd think they are the same, but that's about where the similarities lie. Tolerances, the fine operation, quality of the grip, steel, and overall weight is very noticeable. My Pittsburgh ratchet does not hold sockets on too tightly and there have been several times when I'm tightening or loosening a bolt and it disconnects from the socket quite easily, which can be a pain when you're trying to work in tight spaces. I also stripped the screws that hold the assembly together using just handtools and I either would need to replace it under warranty or just hope I'll never have to lubricate it. If you're a DIYer, Pittsburgh is more than enough and can handle a decent amount of torque and get the job done, however any pro technician would not trust their paycheck to these. Can you buy 5-6 ratchets and still come less money than just 1 SnapOn? YES, however the Pittsburgh are essentially worthless and have little to zero resell value, should you ever need to sell tools or what not. Pittsburgh sockets are also another story, complete garbage. I'm not a SnapOn fanboy as I have many brands of tools, however there's a reason I'll trust my SnapOn, MAC, Craftsman over the years and wouldn't feel so bad if I lose or misplace a harbor freight tool.

I don't own any Snap-On tools, I own all Craftsman. But I've heard nothing but good things about Snap-On. For example, go get 3/8" drive Snap-On and Craftsman ratchets. Hold the gear end, turn each one, and feel the difference. The Snap-On will "click" much more than Craftsman, allowing you to turn more in tighter spaces.

but it's not replicable to be relevant to testing.
@theduder26174 жыл бұрын
@@buca9696 Well, that would depend on how accurate one wants the test to be. lol Bolts from the same batch, each rusted in the same manner for the same length of time, using the same hammer, hitting with the same force each time by eliminating the human factor during the test and using a test rig to cause the hammer to impact the ratchet. Send me as many of those ratchets you like. I can not only reproduce the results, but I can also provide the data proving their strength test is by no means sufficient to ensure accurate quality control on their end. I did not make my comment as a direct result of this video. I've been testing hand tools for quite some time. A little heads up: Many companies do not like when an employee discovers flaws in their testing of products. That could end up costing them a lot of money. Money they like to recover by terminating your employment or forcing you to accept another position within the company, at a lower wage of course. I destroyed an excellent career in quality control by not "knowing when to stop talking". I alerted management to an issue. 10 feet away from him were major customers who I did not see before I spoke. Customers who did not want tools breaking, thus hurting their image.

Rob Jones the prices you see off the truck all have interest included in them, it’s a system set up for mechanics that work in shops, no one pays full price all up front, you have an account on the truck you make payments on, it would be rather expensive to order tools out of the catalogs or order brand new from snap on, all the more reason to live within your means, if your not a pro you don’t need pro grade tools anyways, it’s not just tools either, it goes like that for many things, musicians and musical instruments for example.
