DISCUSSION: Do you believe Michael Jackson should have performed solo during the 'Jackson Family Honors' as a favour to Jermaine, considering he supported Michael throughout the 1993 allegations?
@vaensmusic
@vaensmusic 11 ай бұрын
Hasn't Michael done enough to pay his dues to his family? It was nice of his family to back him up during the allegations, but he didn't owe them anything in return. I suspect, if he had performed, the media would have speculated the only reason was to payback his family for supporting him.

I definitely think he should've performed. We all know why that place was full & it was for Michael. What did the audience get instead? A jermaine performance. Ain't nobody come to see jermaine. In 94 is when they should've had a real jacksons/5 performance. Mike wasn't under the influence & was way younger. I know in my heart when they booed him, he was thinking "damn....I should've did something had I known they would react this way". If janet did 1 song then Michael could've at least sang a solo ballad but...that time has passed & we got what we got...the next year was the vmas & he ultimately KILLED IT!! & that's why I feel that reunion should've been done earlier. Not only that...they did press conferences & etc to support him at that time. He had already done much for them but publicly it just didnt look too good for him not to perform. Idk how I would've felt had I paid over 1k to see him & not perform.....nahhh I'm trippin. Just a sight of him wouldve made my life. But that's my opinion.

Rather than perform as a favor to Jermaine, I think Michael should have performed because the auditorium was only full because he was supposed to be there. To me, if I'm a family member offering my support to you, I'm doing so because you're my blood, not because I want anything back from you. If you choose to repay, that's fine, but I'm not expecting anything. That being said, I don't know what kind of relationship Jermaine and Michael had back then. But I definitely feel that Michael should have sung at least one song because, essentially, everyone was there for him. If his name was not included on the marquee, I bet that place would not have even been half capacity. Michael's fame was stratospheric, and unfortunately, his brothers needed that to get to the outcome they wanted for that program.

Jermaine, Jermaine, Jermaine. Messy Jermaine. My goodness. I DON'T think Michael should have performed at the Jackson Family Honors. I DO think he should have been at the Jackson Family Honors in unity with his family which he did do. The man just came off of THE WORST Character Assassination Attempts ever & was in recovery from the forced end of his Dangerous Tour. A noble tour designed primarily for humanitarian aid. (what would've happened if he got to his intended December 31st date like he was supposed to?) It would have looked tacky if he went with an all-out performance while his legal situation was still going on with the criminal investigation (the civil suit settlement did NOT stop the criminal case proceedings). And it's a damn shame the network refused to show the program WITHOUT Michael performing. So the pressure was unfairly on the Jackson Family to get Michael to do something he wasn't ready to do yet. And the fans didn't help when they booed Elizabeth Taylor when she said Michael wouldn't perform. I get why the fans wanted Michael to show a sign of resistance to all the witch-hunting going on by performing but it wouldn't look right at that time. It would come off as him making light of the allegations thrust upon him. Michael sung with his family with the "If You Only Believe" song which I liked to see. That was good & as far Michael should have gone with performance at the show. That was classy not tacky. It was nice to see Jermaine not running down Michael with 'Word to the Badd' anymore & uniting with him. Now all the bad blood is coming from LaToya under influence of Jack Gordon. But you know it was getting to him how much his destiny was tied to Michael's actions or participation. *The Motown split of 1975 had SERIOUS lasting repercussions Jermaine had no idea he would face.* Jermaine thought he was being loyal to the company which put the Jackson 5 on the global map but the brothers thought loyalty to the family came first since the family was a thing before Motown was in the picture. *That one move from Jermaine killed the Family Unity on projects forevermore. HE was the one who broke the Unity.* Once Michael was able to develop on his own without the other lead singer (Jermaine) to share the mic with, Michael would walk on his path of destiny overshadowing his brothers for the rest of their lives. Their fates are tied to his. But Jermaine is RIGHT when he says Michael is STILL a product of the Jackson 5 & of the Jackson Family. King of Pop or not, Michael can NEVER fully exclude his family & be righteous. That struggle & tug-of-war between Solo Success & Family Unity would define the Jackson Family forever. And when it went sour we all saw the results like the 1984 Victory Tour & the Jackson Family Honors of 1994. But it can also be sweet & we saw those results in the 1997 Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame induction & the Jacksons reunion at Michael Jackson 30th Anniversary in 2001. When the family came back together, it was always beautiful. Yet throughout all of this desire for restoring Family Unity that Jermaine had been speaking of, how could Jermaine do his brother Randy like he did when he not only married Alejandra Oaziaza, the mother of 2 of Randy's kids, but *HAD TWO MORE KIDS OF HIS OWN WITH HER?!* Tangling up ALL the family lines with that move! What was he THINKING?! Randy had problems, sure, but you can't do that, man! *So Jermaine broke the Family Unity AGAIN!* Hahahahaha! The entire thing with wife Hazel Gordy, Motown founder Berry Gordy's daughter, was part of Jermaine's decision to stay with Motown instead of leaving for CBS/Sony Records with his brothers. That caused the 1st split in Family Unity. But then he cheats on Hazel in embarrassing fashion with multiple mistresses including Margaret Maldonado... ...then later cheats on Margaret Maldonado with Randy's Baby Mama Alejandra Oaziaza! It seems that once Jermaine realized the Family Unity was already broken by his own actions, there's no putting the genie back in the bottle so what's another break? We're all in Michael's shadow anyhow so I might as well have my fun. When Jermaine hit the international scene with the Jackson 5 in 1969, he was 14 going on 15 years old. His hormones were already on fire & now he's a world famous superstar with legions of female fans ready to do whatever. I think that marked him for the rest of his life. He didn't have the balance in perspective like his older brother Jackie did. To Jermaine, he was a kid in a candy store with all these girls & he had to have each & every one. Alejandra was a Jackson fan & was determined to get into this family by any means necessary like so many other women. She won BIG TIME because not only does she have one brother but she has TWO brothers with Randy AND Jermaine. And in the end, she will have THREE brothers in a way as her son Jaafar (Jermaine's son) plays Michael in the new biopic! The unintended consequences of success. Telling the story of the Jackson Family is truly a saga.

I remember reading a news article years ago by Stacy Brown, an author, journalist, and former friend to the Jackson family who worked with them on several projects. He discussed how the their familial dysfunction culminated in 2002, when Michael had played a 30th-anniversary celebration the year before. He paid Marlon Brando $1  million to appear and just give him a birthday message...however, Michael only paid his brothers $1,100 each to actually perform with him on stage (which was hyped to be a sort of Jackson 5 reunion). Afterwards, Michael canceled a promised tour with the entire Jackson family. Randy figured the family needed therapy. Janet paid for it, and weekly the whole clan (sans Michael, who felt that he didn't need therapy) would pile into SUVs for secret trips to Malibu. Most of the sessions were spent complaining about Michael; that he seemingly would go above and beyond for other people, and not his family members. That if Michael was working on a new project, there would be anger and frustration that he would not first go to the family and would seemingly purposely work with outsiders. Finally the therapist said it seemed that all their problems unfairly stemmed from Michael in one way or another, and that it was best if they didn’t even think about him. That Michael is not your family, in his mind. He sees Barry Gordy as his father figure and Elizabeth Taylor is his mother figure, and the Jacksons should move on. From these videos I can see why Michael felt that way. Time after time, even though they were family it seemed that Michael's siblings (with the exception of probably Janet) saw Michael as a product, as a way to make money for themselves. But seeing how little he paid them, showed how much value and impact Michael felt they had on his professional career. One of the reasons Elizabeth Taylor and Michael Jackson bonded was because they had both been child stars who had been used to make other people wealthy. Taylor and Gordy never had their hands out in regards to Michael, and I am sure he appreciated that.

Why do I have a bad feeling about Jaafar playing Michael in the biopic? Who is writing the biopic anyway and how much control does the family have? I really hope they will do MJ justice and portray him fairly… He cannot even rest in his grave with all that has been going on after his death. I hope the truth reaches the finish line of that marathon eventually and the whole world will appreciate not only the genius and humble artist, but also the social and historical phenomenon he was; receiving hatred but teaching love, while fighting all his internal demons..

Neither is sybdttg but considering he said the only two songs that weren’t, I thinking he phrased it weird and meant it all the Motown hits, in addition to cyfi and sybdttg

El tema su adicción a los medicamentos es tan complejo incluso el hecho de llamarlo una adicción porque, cómo tratas una adicción de ese nivel cuando se sabe que Michael sufría de dolores muy fuertes, no lo sé, es algo muy difícil de abordar

💯!!!! Read a book called Jackson Family values: Memories Of Madness by Jermaine Jackson’s Ex Common Law Wife & the mother of his child Margaret Maldonado. The book was released on 01st of November 1995. Jermaine Jackson is one Dirty Low Down Dog !!!

If Michael had simply given his brother a 4-minute performance for that TV special he could have created an opportunity for his family that would have been akin to the Kennedy Center Honors today. It feels a little selfish.
