J.C. Lodge, while describing Gibbs as a congenial person, said during an interview with Television Jamaica’s Anthony Miller that, on the downside, her business relationship with the producer was disastrous, as he grabbed all the royalties for Someone Loves You Honey. Kindly watch this episode and find out where they are currently.

@@user-m-q9f Look I'm not a prideful person, I grew up on reggae music in by home. So I had no idea who wrote the original version. There is a big difference between growing up in Jamaica and growing up in Europe, do you still want to call it a waste of thoughts? We're from different world's, under one sky. Instead of laughing, why did you ask why, one who doesn't know they're not stupid, but one who knows and failing to act accordingly they are the one who are stupid. One who doesn't have an excuse, one who knows don't have an excuse. Understand or over stand pick one laughing one. Who is laughing now?

@@user-jt9nx2fd8i This is not about age, it's about the knowledge of a subject. I have heard of him in passing, but I never heard him sing that song. Age have nothing to do with it, it's about what you're into. I was grew up in a house where had to have reggae music for breakfast and lunch and dinner with other Caribbean island music on the side. So your ideas of age is way of the mark on the subject of age and knowing who wrote the original version of a song. She is the first person I heard singing that song. I'm not a prideful person, if I don't know something I'm not going to pretend that I do and make a fool of myself. My life doesn't depend on who knows what and who have to get it right, because there will be no water and food or a place to live or sleep, that's what age comes with. If I never get drunk or get high I never heard about alcohol or drug, I don't drink it, and I don't use it, and in the world that I come from. Seven year old drinking it and using it. So it's not about age is what you're into, I hope I clear that up.

Thanks for this video. When J.C. Lodge recorded the song I had a difficult time convincing my high school buddies that it was originally a Country song. I had to actually provide my Charley Pride album as proof. I didn’t have any Johnny Rodriguez music at the time. It is unfortunate that Joe Gibbs lost his livelihood after working so hard to establish his label. But did he believe he would have gotten away with such an egregious act? My brother met his son years ago, who explained what occurred.

Thanks for the reminder.. I'm familiar with this story...Joe Gibbs really goofed up on this one. Such a shame... One thing is certain however. June "JC" Lodge was the best female reggae singer in the 80s and part of the 90s..❤

@@stevepatrick5818 A FEW successful songs?? But she's got a fantastic catalogue of albums from 1982's Someone loves you Honey to others right into the 90s. Perhaps you haven't listened enough to them enough. Check out her discography ....But if you're attributing British or American Main Pop Chart success as a measure, then you're certainly missing it ...REGGAE has hardly ever had the respect and promotion and commercial exposure by record companies and labels on those charts. I would suggest you go thru Reggae charts in the UK, Florida, New York, California and start from there...No comparisons intended. Marcia Griffiths is the Queen and mostly dominant as of the late 60s and thru out the 70s...In the 80s it was clearly June JC Lodge with others like Cynthia Schloss, Sonya Spence (rather briefly) and a host of other few one-hit wonders, like Sophia George I must say...Of course Mama Rita Marley was up there too among the Honorable First Ladies of Reggae.

Joe Gibbs was only one of the many local Jamaican producers and arrangers that robbed(local Jamaican artists) and profited from overseas (England/USA) recordings and claimed to have written them. Joe Gibbs was one of the more infamous but you can also add Clement Coxsone Dodds and Lee Upsetter Perry among others to the list.

@@reggaegistxtra_ng The original rights owner might give his permission but not his intellectual property and assorted rights and royalties, it just never happens, at least that I know of. Quite the opposite - cover songs that explode do fill the pockets of the original owners. For example - the Fugees have not seen a dime from Killing me softly which was a global hit. There are many more examples.
