I've been listening to episode 1419 of JRE today with Daryl Davis, the man of color that convinced KKK members to leave their racist ideologies behind. Calling him racist is all part of the labeling politics to discredit people I'm sure most people with a functioning brain have figured that out by now, but some people are still susceptible to these tactics- don't listen to him he is racist or a nazi. I don't think it's that simple. Truth-seeking is great. But "truth" in a rapidly evolving pandemic is an elusive goal. Even the experts are scrambling to absorb data from 180 countries and read the countless studies that are being continually released. A reason why a lot of the people on news don't want to go on regular podcasts is because A. if they do it they are breaking the code among the others where they must present the appearance of solidarity with the reputation of cable news because going off on podcasts they believe has a delegitimizing effect B. If people see them for what they are off the small TV bits, it makes them look normal and they aren't interested in being viewed as part of the riff raff Much of what the craziness that's happening in today's climate is elite anxiety. Multiple market forces are converging and they need to constantly reinvent different ways to stave off their own irrelevance. They are the credentialed and the possibility of declining in status is akin to a death sentence. So to their perspective, its literally about survival
