Man, everyone at the time made it sound like Cena was superhuman for recovering so fast but the way he explained it made so much sense. Most people only did PT 3x a week because they had other commitments but Cena's only commitment was to WWE and he made PT his life for those 3 or 4 months.

One of the few times Cena got a massive pop during his "Super Cena" days that didn't involve a mix of boos. It lasted for about 5 minutes before the crowd began turning on him again lol. Was good while it lasted.

@@Lunarcheese72It just shows how fickle fans are. They were genuinely excited but to try and be cool, they started booing. Cena's brought this up before too. That the initial reaction that fans have is their actual real feeling about a situation such as when fans popped when Goldberg originally returned but that after the initial reaction, fans turn cynical and jump on Twitter to give their "disapproval" even though they may have cheered at first. Their initial reaction is always the most genuine. That's why McMahon always said the fans don't know what they want and that u have to show them what they want.

So as a PTA I'll say please don't go ask for something like this lol. John didn't pull this off just because he did a bunch of physical therapy. It was also the fact he was in incredible shape to start with and because in his profession the person working with him is doing a ton of protect him, and limiting his strain much like he said to give him even longer before really pushing it. It's amazing what he pulled off in terms of healing but there are a lot of factors as to why it was possible beyond "I did PT 3 times a day."

Knowing Dr. Andrews Office, having gone to the entire Orthosports Clinic here in Birmingham....it is still often brought up how much of a medical marvel Cena is. But it also taught them that the physical therapy is not about days, it's about reps. Which is one reason why Andrews' team is so good now. They do physical therapy almost immediately. It really pays off and Cena not only helped medical professionals see how valuable reps were....but that these reps were not dependant on days or time. But in the reps themselves.

Couldn't believe it when his music hit. I'm not even a Cena guy, but man I had goosebumps on my arms, chills up my spine, jaw on the floor. It was just such an amazing moment. Of course Triple H in the ring. Who better? That man had that exact same experience years before when coming back from his leg injury. To think now that even he didn't know Cena was gonna come out and his reaction was genuine put a big smile on my face. It was so unexpected that weren't even any rumors that he could return. Nobody comes back that quick. It's insane!

Damn, John is so introspective and brilliant. I totally didn't take into account that to keep it as big of a surprise as possible, they couldn't plan any fancy spots around him during the match, so they took the risk and kept it basic, knowing the moment would outshine the art, as he mentioned. Furthermore, keeping it basic helped keep his pec in check so he could make it to Mania healthy.

It is still amazing to see how easily he can look straight down a camera and lie outright about not using performance enhancers as part of his training/recovery. I believe that he was doing all the physical therapy he said he said he was doing, but so do NFL, NHL, and UFC athletes, and they do not have 3 month recovery times for a torn pectoral. I don't even condemn him for using performance enhancers, because he clearly is not addicted or abusing them. Just stop lying about being clean. It flies in the face of everything he stands for.

This is what CM Punk needs to do. Do physical therapy almost as frequently or as frequently as Cena did back then. Obviously it's different now. Cena was 30 and Punk is like 45. But I've seen older wrestlers work hard to get back in the ring. AJ Styles is a year older and he looked jacked when he returned. So did Orton, who's about a year and a half younger but he looked like a monster. Bigger than he's ever looked. Punk needs to start working out and getting in shape. He has the motivation to do so. Because of Drews promos almost every week about him and his shirts too. If Punk doesn't start working out and getting bigger, I think he'll get injured again. Maybe even as soon as late this year and he could end up missing Wrestlemania once again
